To embrace this spirit we have hand-selected ten amazing wines, each with its own story that celebrates similar values held dear to the Calgary Stampede. These wines and winemakers share a deep love for agriculture and farming along with our values of western heritage, uncompromised quality and environmentally and socially responsible practices. COLE LARSON (RANAHANS)Cole Larson has been a fixture in ranahans since 2003. Since joining, Cole has worked as a Chef, later ran the pastry department, and then in 2008 he joined the Cellar Master team. When not working for the Stampede, Cole is a partner at an independent wine shop - Metrovino. Cole has broad expertise in wine, and a particular passion for Italian varietals.

LUIS OBREGON (RANAHANS)A little while ago, Luis decided to leave his Mexican homeland and embrace the Canadian winter to enroll in SAIT’s culinary program. After graduating, he started working for Rouge in Inglewood. It was here where he fell in love with wine and decided to leave everything behind and move to France to complete his sommelier certificate at the Université du Vin. He then spent five months visiting every wine region in the country, covering over 15,000kms. Luis works as a culinary instructor and as part of the sommelier team at Bin 905 Wines & Spirits.

MICHAEL PADDOCK (THE LAZY S)Michael Paddock graduated with a major in Hotel and Restaurant Management, and has dedicated his career to the hospitality industry. Michael completed his diploma from the International Sommelier Guild and followed that with his Sommelier certification from the Court of Master Sommeliers. In 2015 Michael was the recipient of the Canadian scholarship for the advanced program of the Court of Master Sommeliers. He is the General Manager at Yellow Door Bistro, which was named ‘Best Restaurant of the Year’ by Calgary’s White Hats in May of 2016.

PETER SMOLARZ (THE LAZY S)Peter has become an expert in everything from wine to tequila, and has completed extensive wine and Sommelier training. To further his education, Peter has travelled across the globe to places such as California, Washington State, Argentina, Chile, Italy, Belgium, Spain, Portugal, Australia and France, and even worked the harvest in Chianti Classico in Tuscany. Now the Fine Wine Director at Willow Park Wines & Spirits, Peter spends his time managing the Bordeaux Program, hosting wine tours and conducting tastings and WSET educational classes.

KARI MORTIMER (INFIELD SUITES)While studying business administration with a major in marketing at Niagara College, Kari was inspired by the vineyard on campus and discovered her love and fascination with wine. She decided she wanted to learn more about wine, so while she was at Niagara College she completed the Wine Certificate Program. Her thirst for knowledge led her to become a Certified Sommelier from the Canadian Association of Professional Sommeliers. Kari is currently based in Ontario working as a product consultant.
