COMMUNITY AND EDUCATIONAL OUT-
A MESSAGE FROM LESLIE MOONVES
As 2016 comes to a close, I am pleased to introduce this year’s Diversity Update. It has long been clear,
I believe, that diversity and inclusion make CBS a more successful company. And so we are committed
to fostering an environment where the content we develop and distribute, the workforce we employ, and
the suppliers we use all embrace this crucial initiative.
As you will see on the following pages, CBS remains steadfast in our commitment, and we are moving in
the right direction.
We have so much to be proud of this year, including our newly launched entertainment drama diversity casting initiative, which
helps us promote diversity in front of and behind the camera. Our new legal drama “Doubt” will be the first broadcast series fea-
turing a transgender series regular character played by a transgender actor, and two of our mid-season shows have diverse
leads. And like every year, 2016 was highlighted by our employees and our company’s involvement and many contributions
locally and nationally. In addition, CBS News’ Elaine Quijano became the first Asian-American journalist ever to moderate a
national debate, having served in that role for the recent vice presidential debate.
While our successes should be celebrated, we must also acknowledge the challenges ahead and continue to work to create a
workplace that reflects diverse perspectives.
In closing, I would like to thank all of our Diversity and Inclusion champions for their terrific work, and of course Josie Thomas,
EVP, Chief Diversity and Inclusion Officer for her leadership. An effective diversity strategy begins with our leaders, but the con-
tinuing commitment and focus of every employee is integral to our success.
Leslie Moonves,
President and CEO, CBS Corporation
