The Nursing Assistant Program at Valley Vocational Academy is a 129-hour course which prepares the student to work in various health settings including hospitals, long term care centers, post-acute/rehab centers, home health and hospice. It was developed by nurses whose goal is to improve the quality of nursing assistant education. VVA currently offers daytime and weekend nursing assistant classes. TOPICS COVERED IN CLASS Communication and interpersonal skills Infection control Safety and emergency procedures Residents’ rights Basic nursing skills o Bathing, grooming, dressing, toileting Mental health and social service needs Dementia and cognitively impaired residents Basic restorative services PROGRAM PREREQUISITES Age 16 and older Proof of citizenship or legal resident status Admission test to assess English language, reading and math skills necessary to comprehend course materials and perform duties safely No active felony (ARS32-1606) in the past 5 years for which have not received an absolute discharge Background check as required by clinical site Flu vaccination as required by clinical site (certain times a year) Medical clearance from medical provider Negative TB test or negative chest x-ray results no older than 6 months (TB skin test given during class) TUITION Tuition is $1075.00 of which $250.00 payable upon registration with remaining balance due in 2, 3, or 6 payments. Tuition payment plan offered through Nelnet. Tuition includes Textbook, workbook Uniform top Stethoscope, blood pressure cuff, gait belt TB test by serum RN led state board skills intensives Not included CPR Adult Health Care Provider Uniform pants Medical exam for Health Declaration Chest X-Ray if needed for TB clearance State Board testing fee o Written $30, Skills $88 COMPLETION REQUIREMENTS Students must complete 89 hours of classroom/skills and 40 hours of clinical Passing grade of 80% on classroom quizzes with no more than one failed retake, 80% on final exam, and 80% on skills testing. Passing grade during clinical. Upon successful completion of nursing assistant course, student will be eligible to take state board competency examination to become a CNA or LNA.
