2016 年第一学段家长通知书 Dear Parent(s) / Guardian(s), 2016 has begun! After 2 years of intensive work, we have finally completed our school upgrading and we have returned to the familiar and well-equipped school campus in Marine Crescent. As I recall the 2 years spent at Bedok South, the holding site provided a conducive learning environment for all of us. We have benefitted greatly from our short stay. We learnt to adapt to the new environment and optimize the limited resources. With concerted hard work from the staff, students and you, Tao Nan School continued to excel in all aspects. We are able to enjoy these upgraded facilities in the new campus with the strong support from the Ministry of Education, Singapore Hokkien Huay Kuan, the school staff, students and you. The school seeks to nurture innovative students of exemplary character with a love for learning. With the strong commitment, unwavering efforts and fervent support from all our staff, students and you, we are confident that our robust and holistic programmes will equip our students with 21st century competencies and the love for learning so that they will continue to scale greater heights and unleash their potential. 2016 年开始了！经过两年的努力建设，我们终于完成了学校的设备提升，终于回到

了既熟悉又设备齐全的马林百列校园。

过去两年，学校虽然在临时校舍，然而那里环境清幽，也称得上是一个理想的学习

场所。大家不止学会了适应新环境，更学会了分享有限的资源。过去两年，在大家的努力

奋斗之下，道南依旧在方方面面取得骄人的成绩，这是难能可贵的。我们今天有了美丽崭

ACADEMIC MATTERS 学习事项

2015 PSLE Results The school has sustained its good performance in the PSLE, achieving an increase in the percentage of eligibility for the express stream in the secondary schools. The percentage of quality passes (number of A & A*) for all subjects is also significantly above national benchmarks. We are heartened by our students’ achievements and will continue to strive for greater achievements in 2016.

道南学校在去年的小六离校会考中保持良好的成绩，能进入中学快捷班的学生人数

有所增加，各科目考获 A 和 A*的人数也高于国家水平。我们对学生的成绩表现感到

十分鼓舞，也将会在 2016 年继续争取更优异的成绩。 Information on Instructional Programme A curriculum briefing for parents of P6 Mainstream students will be held on 19 Feb 2016 (Fri) from 7.15pm to 9pm. Information on curriculum matters for other levels will be uploaded on the school website by the end of Term 1.

科目讯息

学校今年将为小六举办课程说明会。小六主流课程说明会将于 2月 19日举行。 P1 to P6 Remedial and P5/6 Supplementary Lessons Remedial and supplementary lessons for P5 and P6 students will start in Term 1 Week 4 (1.30 pm – 3.30 pm). The schedule will be issued to the students by the end of Term 1 Week 3. Remedial lessons for P1 to P4 students will only start in Term 1 Week 8. More information will be provided at a later date.

小一至小六年级补救课和五六年级补课

五六年级学生的补救课和补课将从第一学段的第四周开始，时间是从下午 1 时 30

分至 3 时 30 分，时间表将会在第一学段的第三周结束前发给学生。小一至小四的

补救课则从第一学段第八周开始。有关详情，学校将会另外发信通知家长。 Silent Reading at Assemblies Students are to read English storybooks, newspapers, Science books, magazines or other educational periodicals on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. Some recommended titles include: The Straits Times, Today, Reader’s Digest, National Geographic, Singapore Scientist, Wildlife Wonders, Spy Science and Current Science. On Tuesdays and Thursdays, our pupils will read Chinese storybooks or newspapers.

Some recommended titles include: 联合早报、大拇指、逗号。 Please ensure that your child/ward brings an EL or CL storybook or one of the recommended titles on the stipulated days. During the mid-year and year-end examination periods, an announcement will be made to the students to inform them that they will be allowed to read English/Chinese composition publications or revise for their examination. In order not to overload pupils’ schoolbags, do consider packing books which are not too thick.

每日课前阅读

学生在每逢星期一、三和五集合时间必须阅读英文故事书、报纸、科幻书籍或教育

杂志、期刊。建议阅读的读物包括：The Straits Times, Today, Reader’s

Digest, National Geographic, Singapore Scientist, Wildlife Wonders, Spy

Science, Current Science。每逢星期二和四，学生则需阅读华文故事书或报纸。

其中建议阅读的读物有：《联合早报》、《大拇指》、《逗号》等报刊。因此，请

确保您的孩子每天依据规定将读物带来学校阅读。在考试期间，校方也会告知学生

学生个人物品、学生手册、校车与整体成绩报告表 Handling Students’ Belongings We would like to appeal to your understanding to refrain from passing your child/ward his/her belongings via the General Office when they have already reported to school. Through this, we hope to instil a greater sense of responsibility among your child/ward. Exceptions could be made for essential items such as medications, spectacles, home keys et cetera. Kindly note that other items such as homework, assignments and learning materials will be placed in your child/ward’s Form Teacher’s in-tray and could only be distributed to your child/ward at the end of the school day.

- 学生若需要牙科治疗可拨打 92707786预约时间。 School Bus Arrangement for AM Session Students To facilitate the transport of our students who will be dismissed later at 3.30 pm after supplementary/remedial lessons or CCA practices, the school bus drivers will be making an additional trip at 3.30 pm everyday (except Wednesdays), in addition to the usual school dismissal time from Mondays to Fridays. Students who are taking the school bus and have to stay back in school for supplementary/remedial lessons or extra CCA practices can take the school bus home at 3.30 pm. Such an arrangement may require parents/guardians to pay slightly higher school bus fees. Please discuss with your school bus driver with regard to the fees to be paid.

CCA MATTERS 课程辅助活动

CCA Open House (For P3 and newly-transferred students only) There will be a CCA Open House on 30 Jan 2016 (Sat) from 10 am to 12 pm. This is to introduce the various CCAs to our P3 parents and students as well as the new transferees. We would like to request that you take the time to come down to school to view and understand the programmes offered for each CCA so as to help your child/ward make an informed choice. Most of the CCAs for P3 to P6 are conducted on either Mondays or Fridays. CCAs begin in Term 1 Week 4 for P4 to P6 students and Term 2 Week 1 for P3 students. Students are to refer to their respective CCA notice boards for details.

SCHOOL-HOME SUPPORT 学校与家庭支援计划 Family Matters @ School Programme TNS Family Matters @ School programme includes workshops and family-bonding activities to better support you in your role as a spouse and parent. ICT & MRL DEPARTMENT Online School Circulars All circulars by the school will be posted online on the school website http://www.taonan.moe.edu.sg. Parents can check the website regularly for updates under Parents navigation button. A good time to check for updates and new circulars would be at the end of every week. Besides online circulars, you can also access other links like General Information (under About Us), Calendar of Events, Achievements, Teaching Staff (under Our Family), Departments, CCAs, Forms (under Parents > Downloads), Gallery and et cetera. I-Train Programme The ICT department will be conducting ICT skills training for the students during curriculum time. The skills include Touch Typing for P1 and P2, and Microsoft Office Skills (Microsoft Word, Microsoft PowerPoint and Microsoft Excel) for P3 to P6. The skills taught will be integrated with the learning content from the various subjects. Cyber Wellness messages will also be highlighted to pupils during these training sessions.

Media Resource Library (MRL) The MRL is currently undergoing improvement works and will only be operational in Term 2. Students will be advised on the opening date at a later time. For selected students who demonstrate language proficiency and competency in Chinese and show an immense interest in our Chinese culture, the school will help to develop their potential through the Tao Nan Bi-cultural Chinese Elective Programme (TN BiCEP). Last but not least, TNS has an extensive exchange and immersion programme for our students to achieve an out-of-classroom learning experience and nurture within them a global perspective. These overseas trips provide our students with enriched learning experiences in Chinese culture appreciation. They also allow our students to relate the Chinese cultural knowledge they have learnt in school to a native Chinese speaking environment which they will be immersed in. Tao Nan Bi-cultural Chinese Elective Programme (TN BiCEP) The school had recruited BiCEP students from the top 15% of its 2015 P3 mainstream cohort as well as selected students from the Gifted Education Programme (GEP) 2016. SCIENCE DEPARTMENT L.A.S.E.R (Learners' Assembly for Science Examination Requirements) LASER is a series of lessons catered to the teaching of strategies and techniques for students to handle Science examination questions. It includes common errors made by students and best practices when answering questions. The lessons will be theme based. P3 to P6 students will go through these lessons either during curriculum time or supplementary lessons. Science Notes Science notes will be given to all P3 to P6 students. They will be based on themes and topics.

SAFETY & SECURITY MATTERS 安全与保安

Safety and Security in School We believe in taking a proactive approach in cultivating safety habits in our students, and encourage all parents/guardians to take greater responsibility and ownership to help the school achieve better safety outcomes for our students. For the safety and security of all our staff and students in the school, we seek your understanding and cooperation in the following areas: 1. Please do not remain in school during school hours or accompany your child/ward in

the canteen during recess. 2. If you need to see the teacher or make an enquiry at the General Office, kindly report

first to the security officer at the Security Post and then proceed to the General Office for assistance.

3. All visitors, including Parents/Guardians, are to produce proof of identity (e.g. Identity Card, Driving Licence) and sign in with the security officer at the Security Post. A Visitor Pass will be issued for each visitor.

4. Parents/Guardians are also requested to produce their proof of identity for signing their child/ ward out at the General Office if they wish to take him/her home during school hours.

5. We wish to emphasise that visitors are not allowed to tour the school premises on their own. Please seek assistance from the General Office for enquiries. For more

我们相信只要采取有效的措施来灌输学生安全意识与习惯，再加上家长/监护人的

支持与配合，我们一定能为学生提供一个更安全的学习环境。

为了确保全体师生的安全，我们恳请各位家长／监护人注意以下事宜，并与校方合

作：

1. 请不要在校内逗留；或在学生的休息时间留在食堂里陪伴孩子。

2. 如果您需要见老师或要到办公室询问，请先在学校大门口的入口处向保安人员登

记，然后才到办公室寻求协助。

3. 所有访客包括家长／监护人都必须先向保安人员出示您的身份证、驾驶执照或其

他可以接受的相关证件才可登记。登记后，您会获取访客通行证，才能进入校

园。

4. 如果您需要在上课时间带孩子回家，请到办公室登记并出示您的证件。

5. 校方再次强调我们不允许任何访客自行在校园内游走。若您有任何需要，您可以

在紧急情况发生时无法自由进出，我们希望您能配合遵守下列规则： Parking Vehicles when Visiting the School 1. Please use the public car parks in the vicinity, such as the HDB car parks. 2. Due to the limited number of parking lots, car parking in the school compound is

strictly for staff only. 3. To keep the school compound safe, cars are only allowed to enter the school to

pick the students when the last school bus has left the compound.

5. Special short term passes may be issued for the transportation of your child/ward who is not mobile due to injury.

5. 在孩子因受伤而行动有困难的情况下，校方将会给予您特殊的短期车辆通行证。 Dropping Off or Picking Up your Child/ Ward 1. Please use the designated Drop-off/ Pick-up point:

a) Reporting for AM Session If you are driving your child/ward to school in the morning, you may let your child/ ward alight at the designated drop-off point IN the school before 7.20 am, by entering the school via the school’s main gate at Still Road South and leaving via the back gate at Marine Crescent. Please observe road safety at all times and cooperate fully with the school’s traffic wardens on duty.

b) Reporting for PM Session

For the safety of your child/ward, vehicles are not allowed in the school during school hours and you are advised to park your vehicle at any of the surrounding public carparks and walking your child to school.

c) Dismissal for AM/PM Session To keep the school compound safe, cars are only allowed to enter the school

to pick the students when the last school bus has left the compound.
