Dear Friends:

In 1997 the first ever Treasure Chest Program opened, serving 300 children and teens undergoing treatment for cancer every month. With the October opening of our 50th Treasure Chest Program at Children’s Hospital at Erlanger in Chattanooga,

Tennessee, we now offer our unique services in 18 states—an amazing level of achievement in this our 20th year of existence.

Our most recent opening reflects the Foundation’s enormous growth during its two decades of dedicated service to children and teens fighting cancer. Each new program makes a tremendous impact by providing comfort and enhancing the lives of thousands of children and teens who are faced with the adversity of battling cancer. This newest Treasure Chest Program also reminds me that

we are truly blessed to have your ongoing and generous support. Thanks to caring people like you, we now serve more than 10,000 young cancer patients in 18 states across the nation and in the District of Columbia every month and we continue to grow.

That faithful support has been the common denominator behind all of our successful Treasure Chest Programs through the years.

Without you, we never would have achieved our current level of providing vital services each month. Thanks to you we’ve not only survived, we’ve grown and adapted to an ever changing, ever challenging environment. And through it all, we’ve never

wavered from the relentless pursuit of our mission to provide comfort and distraction from painful procedures to children and teens diagnosed with cancer.

We have so much to reflect on in our glorious past 20 years, so much to be thankful for, and so much to be excited about in the coming year.

In this Annual Report you will find a list of our contributors, fundraisers and toy drive donors.

As I reflect on these incredible 20 years, I know that every donation we receive, every toy and gift card we provide and every smile we bring to a brave child’s face is as important and gratifying as that first toy selected from the Treasure Chest some two decades

ago.

Toy Drives Can Make a Difference For the past twenty years the Pediatric Oncology Treasure Chest Foundation focused on “the promise.” The promise on which our organization was established is, to provide comfort and distraction from painful procedures to children fighting cancer by providing toys. The power of that promise has sustained and motivated us as an organization. This year we served more than 12,500 children and teens monthly in 50 Children’s Cancer Treatment Centers in the United States. It truly takes the hard work of many people to provide toys to the children. It is exciting and encouraging and it simply would not be happening if not for our volunteers and generous supporters. Together we are providing smiles to kids that are suffering.

On November 7, Taps Pub in Oak Forest hosted a Taps Cares for Kids

with Cancer event that raised more than $4,300 for the Treasure Chest

Foundation. During the past four years the Taps Cares event has raised an

impressive $13,000 to benefit the Pediatric Oncology Treasure Chest

Foundation.

On September 27 in Oak Lawn, more than 400 seasoned and new runners and

walkers helped launch the Fourth Annual Running with the Bulldogs 5K

Walk and Run to benefit the Treasure Chest Foundation. After the last

participant had crossed the finish line, an impressive $6,382 had been raised

to benefit the Treasure Chest Foundation and ultimately the brave children

and teens battling cancer. During the past four years the Running with the

Bulldogs event has raised an impressive $32,282 to benefit the Treasure Chest

Foundation.

On October 31, the opening footsteps of runners and walkers

launched the Treasure Chest Foundation’s first ever I’m Tough, I

Won’t Quit Challenge sponsored by The Marshall

County Running Club in honor of Parker Burns, a four-year-old

boy diagnosed with leukemia in 2014. The running route

encompassed beautiful Lake Maxincukee in Culver, Indiana.

Brennan Burns, Parker’s father, organized and implemented a

community 5K Walk and Run. When the last runner had crossed the finish line, $11,211 had been raised.

Seventh Annual Treasuring Our Kids Fundraiser

On April 2, 2016 the Pediatric Oncology Treasure Chest Foundation

hosted its Seventh Annual “Decades of Success” Fundraiser. The

final tally shows the “Decades of Success” event raised more than

$31,000.

Once again the Genis family of Frankfort gave to children and teens fighting cancer. On Saturday, May 14th the family held its Eighth Annual Jack’s Back Cupcake and Lemonade Stand at their home in Frankfort to benefit the Pediatric Oncology Treasure Chest Foundation. The Lemonade Stand raised more than $4,740 and toys for the Treasure Chest Foundation. Since its inception this popular event has raised more than $21,740 for children and teens fighting cancer.

During the month of May 2016, Dr Julian Rogus Elementary School in Frankfort held its first Penny Wars to benefit the Pediatric Oncology Treasure Chest Foundation. This unique fundraiser raised $2,888 for the Treasure Chest Foundation. Every penny raised will benefit children and teens fighting cancer.

Centennial Walkathon to Benefit the

Pediatric Oncology Treasure Chest Foundation

On Friday, May 6th in Orland Park, the students of Centennial School gathered

to launch the Centennial Walkathon to benefit the Treasure Chest Foundation.

After the last participant had crossed the finish line, an impressive $3,400 had

been raised on behalf of brave children and teens battling cancer.

Orland Park Recreation and Parks Department’s Seventh Annual Cinderella Ball

recently made sure that children and teens battling cancer would have something

to smile about. The royal ball, attended by more than 200 young children with

their parents, provided not only a chance to enjoy food, activities and dancing,

but served to benefit the Pediatric Oncology Treasure Chest Foundation.

Those benefits were provided thanks to the compassion of Rob and Elise

Wehmeier, proprietors of Wehmeier Portraits of Orland Park, who were on hand

to create special digital photo memories of the evening.

After the festive event drew to a close and Cinderella had finally rushed to her

waiting carriage, minus one glass slipper, of course, an impressive $870 and

more than 75 toys had been collected to benefit brave young cancer patients

nationwide.

Durbins of Evergreen Park raised nearly $2,600 for the

Pediatric Oncology Treasure Chest Foundation. During the past six

years the Durbins Cares event has raised an impressive $20,500 to

benefit the Treasure Chest Foundation.

The nearly 100 people gathered for Taps Cares for Kids with

Cancer in Oak Forest on October 8 that raised more than $2,500

for the Treasure Chest Foundation. Taps Pub Owner Michelle

Fugiel dedicated the event to the memory of her niece, Alyssa

Marie Kent, who passed away at age 17 after her battle with

leukemia. During the past five years the Taps Cares event has

raised an impressive $15,500 to benefit the Pediatric Oncology

Treasure Chest Foundation.

University Park’s Federal Signal Corporation Helps Teens with Cancer

Federal Signal Corporation designed a local company-wide Gift

Card Fundraiser as part of its monthly charitable giving event at

the firm’s University Park location. The event was designed to

raise money to purchase gift cards for the Pediatric Oncology

Treasure Chest Foundation. The event raised $630 and purchased

gift cards for teens fighting cancer.

For 10 consecutive years, La Grange teenager Crofton Kelly has provided a generous helping hand to kids with

cancer by organizing, implementing and coordinating a local tennis tournament designed to raise funds to benefit the

Pediatric Oncology Treasure Chest Foundation. This year Crofton Kelly laid down his racquet and passed along the

job of implementing and coordinating the Tennis Fun Fest to his sister, Mattigan Kelly. The

hardworking teenager’s 11th Annual Tennis Fun Fest recently drew participation by more than 100 children and

some professionals at the Hinsdale Racquet Club. The popular event ultimately raised more than $6,250 to benefit

children fighting cancer. Overall, Crofton and Mattigan’s amazing efforts have netted more than $53,250 over the

course of the fundraising event’s existence.
