MESSAGE FROM THE SCHOOL PRINCIPAL: Dear St. Angela Merici Family, I am writing with news to share with you. It is with a heavy heart that I have decided not to return to St. Angela’s as your principal next year. I have been discerning for some time to focus on my Franciscan Ministry and immerse myself fully in religious life. As you can imagine, it has been a very emotional process for me making this decision but in the end, I must follow my call to serve God in a different way. I want to thank each and every one of you for all your support and for entrusting me with your children for the past two years. I am honored and feel fortunate to have been given the opportunity to be part of the St. Angela Merici family. Although our time together was short, I take with me wonderful memories. St. Angela Merici School is a special place and I will forever cherish the time spent with all of you! Know that my dedication to my position as your principal; will continue as we transition into new leadership. Although it’s hard to say goodbye-I ask for you to pray for me and know that I will pray for each and every one of you!

FAREWELL TO MS. FRANCES ACOSTA: As the parish community of St. Angela Merici church we wish to sincerely thank Ms. Frances Acosta, OFS for her genuine dedication and service she rendered our community, in particular, to our school. We shall certainly miss her. As she moves on we promise to keep praying for her. Again thank you so much, and may Almighty continue blessing her.

ST. ANGELA MERICI SCHOOL REGISTRATION: St. Angela Merici School is now accepting applications for 2016-2017 school year grades 1-6. Financial assistance available. For more information please call 718-293-3365.

REGISTRATION FOR CCD: We have begun our annual

Registration of children and Adults who wish to join our

religious education classes CCD to receive any of the

sacraments of initiation: Baptism, Holy Communion and

confirmation. To register for Baptism classes one must

come with his/her own Birth Certificate. To register for

Holy Communion classes one has to bring his/her own

Baptism Certificate. Those for confirmation classes must

bring both Baptism and communion certificates.

Registration is done in our parish office during week days

from 9:30 to 4:00pm and every Saturday from 10:00am to

12:30pm. However Our CCD forms are provided at the

back of the Church for all Children and Adults who wish to

join our Religious education program (CCD). Each student

has to bring a contribution of $50.00. Classes will begin on

September 3rd 2016. For more information call

YOUTH GROUP MEETINGS: St. Angela Merici Youths Group is continuing to grow, thank God and its leadership. As Parish Devotional groups grow so do their needs. In that regard, members of the Youths Group will continue to meet on Friday at 6.30p.m. in the Convent building basement.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED TO SERVE OUR CHURCH IN VARIOUS ACTIVITIES: This is to invite individuals who are ready and willing to organize fellow English Holy Mass parishioners of St. Angela Merici Catholic Church into various suitable groups of social and religious parish annual bilingual celebrations. Please fill a form and give it to the ushers. The Pastor will have clarification meeting with volunteers before commissioning those great services to our church. Thanks for your response. ST. CHARLES LWANGA AND COMPANIONS DAY: On Saturday July 9th 2016 we shall have our annual celebration of the African Martyrs day of Saint Charles Lwanga and Companions and all other Martyrs of African descent. Time: 1:00 PM. St. Philip and James parish, 1160 East. 213 Street Bronx, NY 10469. All Christians of St. Angela Merici parish and of other Parishes are cordially invited. PARISH COUNCIL: Parish Council meeting is scheduled to take place on Wednesday June 15, 2016 at the Rectory basement beginning from 7.30pm.

FATHER’S DAY ENVELOPES: It is wonderful for us to pray and honor our Fathers in a very special way each year. Envelopes for Father’s day Mass remembrance can be obtained from the back of the church. This year’s Father’s day will be celebrated on Sunday June 19TH 2016.

CONFESSION AND REHEARSAL FOR CONFIRMATION: Confession for the Confirmation Candidates In our CCD Program will be on Saturday 18th of June at 9:00 AM and

the rehearsal will be on Sunday June 19, 2016 at 6:30 PM in the Church.

CONFIRMATION CEREMONY: On Wednesday June 22,

2016 kids in our CCD program will receive the Sacrament of

Confirmation. The Mass of Confirmation will begin exactly

at 7.30p.m. Please, parents and guardians ensure that you

are on time on that day. Thank you.

In this Sunday’s readings we are like the fallen king, David, and the woman who weeps at Jesus’ feet. Like David, the Lord has rescued us from sin and death, anointed us with His Spirit in baptism and in confirmation. He has made us heirs of His promise to the children of Israel.

And like David, and like the woman in the Gospel, we fall into sin. Our crimes may not be as grave as David’s or as “many” as that woman’s. But we often squander the great gift of salvation we’ve been given. Often we fail to live up to the great calling of being sons and daughters of God.

The good news of today’s readings, the good news of Jesus Christ, is that we can return to God in the sacrament of confession. Each of us can repeat Paul’s wondrous words in this week’s Epistle: “The Son of God has loved me and given himself up for me.” Our faith will save us, as Jesus tells the woman today. Our faith that no matter how many our sins, or how serious, if we come to him in true sorrow and repentance we will hear his words of forgiveness. Like David. Like the woman in the Gospel this Sunday.

We hear David’s heartfelt confession in the First Reading. The Psalmist, too, confesses his sins to God. And we hear our Lord’s tender words of mercy and pardon in the Gospel. By His word of healing and his promise of peace, He makes it possible for us to join Him at the banquet table of the Eucharist.

We can’t be like the Pharisee in the Gospel. We should never disdain the sinner or doubt the Lord’s power to convert even the worst of sinners. Instead, we should pledge today to better imitate that sinful woman. In

gratitude for the debt we’ve been forgiven, let us promise to live by faith and for God alone. Like her, let us devote our lives to serving Him with great love.

DÍA DEL PADRE: Es maravilloso para nosotros orar y honrar a nuestros padres de una manera muy especial cada año. INSCRIPCIÓN PARA EL CCD: Hemos comenzado nuestra

Bautismo, Comunión y Confirmación. Para inscribirse en las

clases de bautismo debe traer su certificado de

nacimiento. Para inscribirse en las clases de la Sagrada

Comunión tiene que traer su certificado de bautismo.

Para las clases de confirmación debe traer los certificados

del bautismo y de comunión. La inscripción se hace en

nuestra oficina de la parroquia durante los días de semana

9:30-4:00pm y los sábados 10 a.m.-12:30p.m.. Sin embargo

los formularios del CCD están en la parte posterior de la

Iglesia. Cada estudiante debe traer una contribución de

$50.00. Las clases comenzarán el 3 de septiembre 2016.

La misericordia de Dios está siempre disponible para las

personas que se reconocen necesitadas de salvación. Lo

primero que resalta en el relato del Evangelio es el

contraste entre lo que piensa el fariseo y la actitud de

Jesús. Para el fariseo, aquella mujer ya estaba rotulada

definitivamente como una prostituta, y como tal merecía

ser despreciada. Así piensan siempre quienes se creen

superiores a los demás, y por eso para ellos las personas a

las que consideran pecadoras no tienen posibilidad de

redención. En cambio, el mensaje que nos comunica Jesús

es que para cualquier persona, por más bajo que haya

caído, si se reconoce necesitada de salvación y está

dispuesta a cambiar su comportamiento, puede empezar

un nuevo porvenir. Así ocurrió por ejemplo con el rey David,

quien en la primera lectura (2 Samuel 12, 7-10.13)

reconoce y confiesa su pecado.

Dios nos ama, no porque nosotros seamos “buenos”, sino

porque quiere liberarnos del pecado, ofreciéndonos

siempre su perdón y la fuerza del Espíritu Santo para que

podamos vivir de acuerdo con Él, que es Amor. Y para que

podamos recibir el perdón de Dios y la fuerza renovadora

de su Espíritu, basta con que tengamos fe en Él.

El sacramento de la reconciliación, signo de la

misericordia de Dios. Y en el Evangelio, la pecadora

confiesa con su actitud que está dispuesta a cambiar de

vida, y recibe de Jesús la absolución: Tus pecados están

perdonados. Falta explicitar la reparación (popularmente

llamada “penitencia”), que consiste en procurar una

compensación, en lo posible, del mal que se le haya

causado a alguien; éste es el sentido precisamente de la

relación entre verdad y reconciliación: reconocer uno su

culpa ante la persona a quien ha ofendido, es ya en sí la

manifestación de una voluntad de reparación.

Manda tu Espíritu y conságranos a todos con su unción para que el Jubileo de la Misericordia sea un ano de gracia del Señor y tu Iglesia pueda, con renovado entusiasmo, llevar la Buena Nueva a los pobres proclamar la libertad a los prisioneros y oprimidos y restituir la vista a los ciegos. Te lo pedimos por intercesión de María, madre de la Misericordia, a ti que vives y reinas con el Padre y el Espíritu Santo por los siglos de los siglos. Lord Jesus Christ, you have taught us to be merciful like the heavenly Father, and have told us that whoever sees you sees Him. Show us your face and we will be saved. Your loving gaze freed Zacchaeus and Matthew from being enslaved by money; the adulteress and Magdalene from seeking happiness only in created things; made Peter weep after his betrayal, and assured Paradise to the repentant thief. Let us hear, as if addressed to each one of us, the words that you spoke to the Samaritan woman: “if you knew the gift of God!” You are the visible face of the invisible Father, of the God who manifests his power above all by forgiveness and mercy: let the Church be your visible face in the world, its Lord risen and glorified. You willed that your ministers would also be clothed in weakness in order that they may feel compassion for those in ignorance and error: Let everyone who approaches them feel sought after, loved, and forgiven by God. Send your Spirit and consecrate every one of us with its anointing, so that the Jubilee of Mercy may be a year of grace from the Lord, and your Church, with renewed enthusiasm, may bring good news to the poor, proclaim liberty to captives and the oppressed, and restore sight to the blind.
