Good afternoon wonderful and amazing Dragons'
As you may have neaid tooay on the i'nou"ncu*ent, the AsL department is cerebrating Deaf Awareness week'
The students have created a dispray ot po.i"ri arong tne 1100 hailway reading_toward the 1200 building along
the windows. These posters give information ,angin{from important figures yrDgaf history, Deaf athletes' as
well as facts about Deafness, Deaf culture and how to communi"it" r,iltn a Deaf person' There will also be links
to video psA,s created by ASL lll studenL-that are captioned on the school website' we will also enjoy PA
announcements each day Orougnt toyou by theASL lll cla, sses as well' : Thorr rvir he exoeri
on wednesday you may notice sometnint'sticking oyt ?lih:, ears of your students. They will be experiencing
Deaf for a Day. They,ll actually be hard or"n"uri'ng;nd while tnev are jrrowed to,talk they may have to take a few
extra steps in making sure communication is creir and succes.tut. rnuy have been instructed to take the
earplugs out in ctass] nui *",u" informed the stuoents that if they want io try being deaf in their elective classes
and as rong as tney are not a distraction ano you don't mrnc.tne ituoents emproying some of the communication
and reaming strategies they have oeen worKng on this year that wourd be great ioo. However this is with the
complete permission and inderstanding or eain individual teainer. lt has 6een strongly impressed upon them
that if they miss any information in ctass-the earplugs are not an excuse' they are responsible and must
immediatety remove them if they cause tneituobntio fall behind or get distracted. They have also been
instructed that it cloesn,t matter the reason, the second the teacher "it
s. tne earplugs come out' This is simply
a chance for them to simulate what it mi;ht;; rir. to be Deaf or hard of hearing but we do not want it to be a
disruption to their schoor day in anyway.-rf you have any questions or concernJplease let us know immediately'

our lovely litle dragons should have their earplugs in for ASL class, in the halls and at lunch but they should
remove them when they come in your classroom-. we want to make sure there is no distraction or disruption to
the rest of the school day. Thank you all for supporting the ASL dept as the students reach out and teach our
Dragon community anoui wnat we are leaming over here in ASL.
