Get Ready to Read to the Rhythm The 2015 Summer Reading Challenge Video Gallery and Contest March 1 – April 15This year’s music-themed summer reading challenge, called Read to the Rhythm, needs talented local music and dance organizations to make it extra special. Send in a short video of your group performing and then saying:

“We are [your organization name] and we read to the rhythm!”

Videos should be no more than one minute long and can be in languages other than English. Send submissions to [email protected]. Videos will be posted online at www.gailborden.info/summer-video. Local celebrities will choose three videos that best represent the summer reading theme. Winners will be announced at the June 16 Family Picnic. Winners need not be present to win a $25 Target gift card.

Reflections: Elgin Flowing Through Time, The 1920s – 1970sReflections is a community-wide celebration featuring the mid-20th century’s vibrant years of art, music, dance, film, history, literature, theater, sports, architecture, and city infrastructure. Events happening at the library, throughout the City, museums, schools, churches, art galleries, community college, home care facilities, parks and downtown street corners take place from March 1 to August 1.

The Reflections project goals are Asset Based Community Development—forging new partnerships, fortifying existing ties, building a stronger network within our community—and story collecting. Partners involved to date are the American Association of University Women, City of Elgin, Downtown Neighborhood Association of Elgin, Elgin Academy Media Arts, Elgin ArtSpace, Elgin Area Chamber of Commerce, Elgin Community College, Elgin Community Network (neighborhoods), Elgin History Museum, Elgin Sports Hall of Fame, Elgin Public Museum, Elgin Area Convention & Visitors Bureau, Fox Valley Men of Harmony (barbershoppers), Independent Players (theater), Side Street Studio Arts, Elgin Patriotic Memorial Association, YWCA Elgin, area churches, businesses and individuals with talent of all kinds.
