Boys Baseball Camp Coach Jay Powell invites you to get ready for your baseball season with the Jackson Academy Raider baseball team. Sharpen your skills with technical and strategic instruction. T-shirt and lunch will be provided. Join the Raiders for a day of baseball fun! Grades: 2nd-6th. Fee: $50. Meet at Raider Park. March 21. 9:00-3:00.

Boys Basketball CampJA Raiders Coach Bill Ball and his staff offer an instructional camp designed to meet the needs of rising ballplayers of all abilities. Basketball funda-mentals, good sportsmanship, a positive attitude, and enthusiasm will be emphasized in a wholesome camp atmosphere. T-shirt is included. Grades: 1st-9th. Fee: $80. Meet in the Gym. June 15-18. 8:00-12:00.

Girls Basketball CampLady Raiders Coach Jan Sojourner and her assistants will lead participants in learning basketball funda-mentals and achieving a new level of playing ability in an environment that is both challenging and fun. T-shirt is included. Grades: 2nd-9th. Fee: $80. Meet in the Gym. June 15-18. 1:00-5:00.

Cheerleading/Accent CampThis non-stop week of action includes a variety of activities designed to develop cheer and dance team skills, and is led by our award-winning JA Accents and JA varsity cheerleaders. T-shirt is included. Grades: Rising K3-6th. Fee: $80. Meet in the Activities Building. July 20-23. 10:00-1:00. Bring a lunch and drink.

Fast Pitch Softball CampCoach Will Whitehead and assistants will work on individual and team softball techniques in a fast-paced camp for girls of all levels of playing ability. T-shirt is included. Grades: 3rd-8th. Fee: $80. Meet at the softball field at Raider Park. June 22-25. 9:00-12:00.

Football CampCoach David Sykes and JA Raider staff will lead participants in basic football skills including passing, receiving, running, blocking, and tackling. Instruction

on weight lifting and speed training is also included. T-shirt is included. Grades: 1st-6th. Fee: $80. Meet at Raider Field. June 22-25. 9:00-12:00.

Raider Speed CampCoach Mack Norwood and staff will work with campers on techniques to enhance speed, agility, coordination, and balance. Campers will work with the award-winning Raider track team members and staff. T-shirt is included. Grades: 1st-6th. Fee: $80. Meet at Raider Park. May 26-29. 9:00-12:00.

Soccer CampCoach Nic Henderson and assistants work with campers to fine tune their soccer skills with drills and practice games. Camp is for both girls and boys. T-shirt is included. Grades: 1st-10th. Fee: $80. Meet at Raider Field. July 13-16. 9:00-12:00.

Tennis CampBeginner and intermediate level tennis instruction will be available this summer for the PK-4th grade student! Instructor Mary Rebecca Jeffries will instruct campers in basic techniques, scoring, strategy, and tennis etiquette. Racquets will be provided for use during camp. Classes are limited to 24 students. See registration form for the different class times. Get ready for some fun on the courts! Grades: PK-4th. Fee: $100. Meet in the Activities Building. July 6-10. 9:00-3:00.

Volleyball CampJoin Coach Anna Stephens and staff for our volley-ball camp, specifically designed to meet the needs of girls entering grades 3rd-9th. This camp focuses on all aspects of the game with emphasis on funda-mentals. We will provide on-court instruction in the following areas: serving, serve receiving, forearm passing, setting, attacking, and blocking. Along with on-court instruction there will be many fun activities and matches. T -shirt is included. Grades: 2nd-8th. Fee: $80. Meet in Gym. July 13-16. 1:00-5:00.

Beat the HeatJuly is HOT! Join us at Ashleigh Park inside Raider Park for a fun way to beat the heat! Cool off in the water slides, slip and slides, and enjoy other water fun. Wear your swimsuit under shorts and a T-shirt,

and wear your flip-flops, too. Bring a towel, snack, and water. This camp is led by JA’s Caleb Canterbury. Grades: 1st-6th. Fee: $80. Meet at Raider Park, and let the fun begin! July 27-29. 9:00-11:30.

Art CampsCamp participants will enjoy these fun-filled camps led by Jackson Academy’s Avery Buffington and Lisa Perkins. These camps will fill quickly. Sign up early!

• Art Explorations: For all of those who love to paint, draw, or doodle, come and learn the basics of using different art mediums. We will be using pencils, color pencils, pastels, and all different types of paint to develop your own style and promote new skills. All materials are included in the price of the class. Class is limited to 12 campers. Grades: PK, K, 1st. Fee: $95. Meet in the JA Lower School Art Room. June 15-18. 9:00-10:00 or 10:30-11:30.

• Crafty Creations: Students will create all sorts of projects using different types of mediums. All materials and supplies are included in the price of the class. Class is limited to 12 campers. Grades: PK, K, 1st. Fee: $95. Meet in the JA Lower School Art Room. June 22-25. 9:00-10:00 or 10:30-11:30.

• Draw, Paint, Imagine: This camp is for students who truly are inspired with a pencil, pen, or paintbrush. Students will work with all sorts of art mediums including watercolor, oil pastel, and acrylic paint on a wide variety of surfaces. We will develop and push students’ imaginations to enhance their love for art! All materials and supplies are included in the price of the class. Class is limited to 15 campers. Grades: 2nd-6th. Fee: $150. Meet in the JA Lower School Art Room. June 15-18 or June 22-25. 1:00-3:00.

Computer TotsComputer Tots will be offered twice this summer! There will be two different themes and campers are invited to attend both sessions. Students will rotate on computers, iPads, peripherals, and art-related stations. Call 601-853-0607 if you have questions. Space is limited to 20 campers on a first-come basis.

• Bugs and Insects: From Legs to Wings and Back Again! Ants can carry more than 50 times their weight. There are more than 3,000 different types of insects. A mosquito flaps its wings 500 times a second. These are a few fun facts from the fascinating world of bugs and insects. Through discussions and hands-on activities, the students will discover various characteristics about bugs and insects. They will look at similarities and differences, body parts, and discover why some bugs/insects fly while others do not. This camp will focus on science readiness, including how things work, construction, motion,

movement, locomotion, and metamorphosis. The students will make these discoveries as they rotate to various stations that will include computer software, iPads, robots, Legos, microscopes, and art activities. This is an exciting camp for any child who is captivated by bugs and insects. Space is limited and spots fill up quickly! Grades: PK, K, 1st. Fee: $125. Meet in the Pre-School Library. June 15-18. 10:00-12:00.

• Discovering the Basics to Building: Give a child a set of Legos or a pile of bricks and he will build something, and building is a great way to enter the world of engineering. This camp is designed to complement a child’s creativity in building by introducing him to the basic concepts of physical science and engineering. Students will explore and discover, build and transform, problem solve and manipulate actual Legos into a “Push & Pull” launcher, spinning tops, seesaws, and pin wheel cars. By participating in the process, the student will focus on how things work, define/name/identify the elements and attributes of shapes, and be introduced to technology words such as levers, gears, pulleys, wheels, and axles. To emphasize the various aspects of the building process, the students will rotate to various stations using computers, iPads, Legos, robots, and art activities. This is a fun, creative camp for any child who enjoys building. Space is limited and spots fill up quickly. Grades: PK, K, 1st. Fee: $125. Meet in the Pre-school Library. July 13-16. 10:00-12:00.

Music in MotionYour children have a unique, musical opportunity in store for them! Music in Motion is a camp where your pre-schoolers will spend a week with JA’s own Director of Choral Music, Katie Shores. They will discover rhythm, movement, and musical fun each day. In addition to learning music, they will experience firsthand the joys of being on stage as the week culminates in a performance in JA’s Performing Arts Center. Don’t miss this chance for your child to experience Music in Motion during this exciting and eventful week. Snack included. Class is limited to 20 students. Grades: PK, K. Fee: $150. Meet in the Preschool Music Room. July 6-10. 8:30-11:30. Performance in the PAC July 6. 11:00.

StudioJoin JA alum and dance instructor, Rivers Walker, for a week of dance and fun! All classes will meet in the Performing Arts Center. • Princesses, Fairies, and Ballerinas: Be a princess or fairy every day and dance a princess adventure! Each day costumes are put together by the children, and they will dance to the songs of Tinkerbell and Cinderella. Although dance shoes and attire are welcome, they are not a requirement. Come and join the fun! Grades: PK-K. Fee: $135. Meet in the PAC. July 13-16. 10:00-1:00. Bring your lunch and a drink each day.

Summer Care Policy for JA Campers

Summer Care is Jackson Academy’s After School Care Program designed for Jackson Academy students who:

• Are enrolled at JA for the 2015–16 school term • Need extended care before and after the

camp • Are not enrolled in our regular Summer

Program

• Summer Care will be $30 per day, plus summer registration fee of $30 for PK-K and $100 for grades 1st-6th

• Registration is through the After School Care Office only

of “Dancing with the Stars.” Learn to dance with the teachers from The Studio as well as guest artists from the Ole Miss Rebelettes, the Memphis Grizzlies, and the MS State Bullies. Although dance shoes and attire are highly recommended, they are not a requirement. Come and join the fun! Grades: 1st-3rd. Fee: $135. Meet in the PAC. July 13-16. 10:00-1:00. Bring your lunch and a drink each day.

Gifted Explorations “A Week at the Beach”Come explore the elements of marine life as well as the complexity of what lies in and below our beaches, near and far. Campers will rotate through modules, exploring dissection of sea creatures, sand exploration and beach ecosystems, shell creations, and robotics. Working collaboratively with student-created activities, students will create a life-sized beachfront. Campers will be introduced to fish anatomy, sand composition, dune and beach ecosystems, and marine biology.

All students must meet ONE of the following criteria for acceptance: • IQ 120 or more in VIQ, PIQ, or FSIQ • 90% or higher (nationally normed) on a standardized test in a

global area

Grades: 2nd-6th. Fee: $275. Meet in the JA Cafeteria. June 15-19. 9:00-2:00. Bring sack lunch. Snack provided.

Summer ShowoffsWith its beginnings in Jackson, Mississippi, Summer Showoffs has grown into one of the largest showchoir camps of its kind. Spend a week with us at camp at Jackson Academy this summer. Summer Showoffs is great for self-esteem, coordination, and confidence. This camp teaches that singing, dancing, and speaking on stage can be fun! Grades included in this camp are K-12th. Your child will meet Monday-Thursday to rehearse group singing, choreography, solos, and the correct way to speak and use the microphone. On Friday we will have a dress rehearsal and then a grand performance for friends and family. Bring your friends and join us this summer and…Show Off! June 8-12. Meet in Performing Arts Center.

Drama Kids Playhouse: Fairytales EditionJoin us as we let our campers use their creativity to deliver a great play based on their favorite fairytales—created, directed, designed, and performed by the campers themselves! Campers will explore all

aspects of theater from acting and directing to set design and more. Our campers will bring the house down during their End of Camp DKI Playhouse Presentation, performing a play their team creates. Space Adventure - Bricks 4 Kidz CampInspired by NASA and Star Wars, our Space Adventure Camp is packed full of models that will make your imagination blast off! Each day campers will learn about real-life space exploration and build models related to the NASA space program. In addition, the day includes LEGO Star Wars themed models, group games, challenges, and more. Bricks 4 Kidz Space Adventure Camp provides the spark for imagination and creativity to take off on an adven-ture that’s out of this world! All campers will take home a custom mini figure! Grades: 1st-3rd. Fee: $195. Meet in the Lower School Art Room. June 1-5. 9:00-12:00.

Under the Sea - Bricks 4 Kidz CampJoin Bricks 4 Kidz for Under the Sea FUN! Each day we will learn about and build sea creatures using Lego Bricks! Our afternoons will include ocean stories, Lego building, and wonderful ocean crafts!

From colorful fish, whales, jellyfish, and an octopus….we have the sea covered! Campers will take home precious creations and a T-shirt! Grades: K3-K. Fee: $175. Meet in the Lower School Art Room. June 1-5. 1:00-3:00.

Teenage Brick Turtles - Bricks 4 Kidz CampCalling all Ninja Turtles! Join Bricks 4 Kidz and build turtles, their wise Japanese rat Sensei, and Splinter using LEGO bricks. Our week will include loads of LEGO building, games, challenges, and motorized creations that are sure to make you feel like you are a part of Michelangelo’s world! Let’s build and play with LEGO bricks…Turtle Style! All Brick Turtle campers will go home with their favorite custom Brick Turtle mini figure! (All day option...sign up for Super Hero Bricks camp, too!) Grades: 1st-3rd. Fee: $195. Meet in Lower School Art Room. July 6-10. 9:00-12:00.

Super Hero Bricks - 4 Kidz CampCalling all SUPER KIDZ! Join Bricks 4 Kidz for a week of building Super Heroes with LEGO Bricks! Explore all the caped crusaders and discover their super powers. Create a fantasy world and protect it against all enemies with custom contraptions made with LEGO Bricks! Our week will include loads of LEGO building, games, challenges, and creations that are sure to make you feel like you are a part

of your favorite Super Hero’s world! All SUPER HERO campers will go home with a custom super hero mini figure! (all day option…sign up for Teenage Brick Turtles camp, too!). Grades: 1st-3rd. Fee: $195. Meet in the Lower School Art Room. July 6-10. 12:30-3:30.

***Parents are welcome to attend the last session of each camp to meet your child’s instructor/coach and to see performances, compe-titions, or projects. Please check with the instructor/coach for times.

Academic Courses for New CreditInformation concerning courses for academic credit and for Driver’s Education will be mailed to parents after Spring Break. Enrollment is limited; registration is scheduled only through the Upper School Office. Call 601.366.2380.

English & Math Brush UpJA instructors prepare rising 7th graders for 7th grade English and math with this review of basic grammar and algebraic concepts. Grade: 7th. Fee: $90. Meet in Room 301 in Middle School hall. August 10-12. 3:00-5:00.

Reading InstituteJA will offer a two-week summer intervention for students grades 1st and up needing remediation in the following areas. All classes will be taught by trained professionals of specific programs offered. Classes will be held in the ARC classrooms in the Lower School building. (Very small student/teacher ratios)

Phonics/Reading: Using Orton Gillingham and Lindamoodbell techniques, students participate in a two-week program that is designed for students who need systematic intervention in the basics of reading, spelling, and vocabulary. Strategies used are designed for students with dyslexia and related reading difficulties. Students will receive 20 hours of instruction—2 hours per day. Cost is $500. Two sessions: Grades 1st-3rd: 8:00-10:00 and Grades 4th and up: 1:00-3:00. July 13-24.

Reading Comprehension/Writing Skills: This two-week compre-hensive program successfully emulates the concept of imagery which improves language skills, reading comprehension, critical thinking, and semantic memory. Students are immersed in strategies to build active reading and writing skills. Using multi-sensory tech-niques, students will gain knowledge and application of the writing process. Students will receive 15 hours of instruction-11/

2 hours per

day. Cost is $400. 2 sessions: Grades 1st-3rd: 10:30-12:00, and Grades 4th and up: 3:30-5:00, July 13-24.

Creation StationLed by Cindy Robinson, students will delve into creative outlets, utilizing unique techniques to create novel art from the world around them. Surrounded by a potpourri of items, campers will create new art forms—mastering true artistic expression from the ground up. Ranging from building life-sized structures out of recycled items to learning artistic techniques, campers will be “art filled” with the confidence to trust their inner artistic voice. Grades: 1st-6th. Fee: $150. Meet in the JA Cafeteria. July 6-10. 9:00-11:00.

Robotics Space CampCliff Powers, Lower School STEM instructor at Jackson Academy, will take young explorers on a challenging and fun-filled adventure to Mars! Using the latest Lego EV3 components, students will build and program advanced robots to complete a series of challenges on the red planet. Students will learn advanced design, drive systems, and programming while developing skills in collaboration, teamwork, brainstorming, and problem-solving. This week-long class will be offered in both June and July and is limited to 20 students per session. Grades: Entering 4th-6th. Fee: $250. Meet in the Lower School STEM lab. June 22-26. 9:00-12:00 or July 13-17. 9:00-12:00.

Junior Robotics CampCliff Powers, Lower School STEM instructor at Jackson Academy, will introduce designers to the world of robotics. Using Lego’s WeDo products, younger students will create operable robots while learning the basics of motors, sensors, gears, and drives. Working with a partner, the students will also develop skills in collaboration, teamwork, and problem-solving. This week-long class will be offered in both June and July and is limited to 20 students per session. Grades: Entering 2nd-3rd grades. Fee: $150. Meet in the Lower School STEM lab. June 22-26. 12:30-2:30. or July 13-17. 12:30-2:30.

TheaterCome take part in learning the basics of musical theater as JA’s own Katie Shores directs an MTI Kids production (title to be released upon receipt of rights). As in past years, you can expect a nationally recognized production, complete with well-known music, fun group numbers with custom choreography, personalized costumes, and perfor-mance features galore. Students will participate in every aspect of musical production, with a full performance for the public at the end of the week. There are limited spots available, so don’t miss your chance to be a part of the 3rd annual Summer Theater Camp at Jackson Academy.

Summer Academic Workshops

Writing Mechanics (rising 9th -12th)June 8-12. 9:00-11:00

Students will learn the basics of writing essays, which includes format, content, punctuation, and grammar. Students will be exposed to skills needed to formulate a cohesive essay. Documentation of sources for term papers will also be covered.

Literature/Grammar/Vocabulary (rising 7th-8th)June 8-12. 9:00-11:00

Learn the nuts and bolts of active reading skills to master reading comprehension in Middle School English. Students will learn ways to study vocabulary effectively and store information in memory. Basic grammar skills will be reviewed to help students gain a better under-standing of grammar and its application in reading, speaking, and writing.

Pre-Algebra (rising 7th)July 6-10. 9:00-11:00

Eighth Grade Algebra I (rising 8th)July 6-10. 9:00-11:00

Ninth Grade Algebra I (rising 9th)July 6-10. 9:00-11:00

Geometry (rising 10th)July 6-10. 9:00-11:00

Students enrolled in the math workshops will review skills needed to begin the course and preview beginning concepts of the course so that they can experience success in the classroom.

The location of each Academic Workshop will be announced at a later date and each registered student will be notified of the location. The price per workshop is $200.

Grades: Rising 3rd-rising 9th. Fee: $300. (Special rate: two siblings for $500.) Meet in the PAC. June 1-5. 9:00-3:00. One performance June 5, 2:00.

Camp Policy

In case of cancellation after registering for a camp, if Jackson Academy is notified in writing at least two weeks prior to the start of a camp, 100 percent of the fee will be refunded. If Jackson Academy is notified at least one week prior to the start of a camp, 50 percent of the fee will be refunded. Less than one week’s notice of cancella-tion will result in the forfeiture of all fees paid.

Unless notified in writing by a parent or legal guardian through submission of a Photo/Video Opt-Out form, the School has permission to use photographs, audio, and video footage of students for school and general publicity purposes including but not limited to print, broadcast, online media, promotions, advertising and publicity.
