Summer Care PolicySummer Care is Jackson Academy’s After School Program designed for Jackson Academy students who: • Are enrolled at JA for the 2017–18

school term. • Need extended care before and after

the camp. • Are not enrolled in our regular Summer

Program. • Summer Care will be $30 per day, plus

summer registration fee of $50 for PK–K and $100 for grades 1st–6th.

• Registration is through the After School Office only.

Parents AttendanceParents are welcome to attend the last session of each camp to meet your child’s instructor/coach and to see performances, competitions, or projects. Please check with the instructor/coach for times.

The camps at Jackson Academy have something for everyone, from rising sports or stage stars to future artists and scientists. We have several new camps to delight and thrill you. Summer is a great time to get

on track academically with our workshops. Please check the camp catalog and see the new camps, along with everyone’s favorites.

A few reminders: 1. Many camps have limited availability, so sign up quickly. 2. Space in the camps cannot be held without payment and registration forms. 3. Boys Baseball Camp Coach Jay Powell invites you to get ready for your baseball season with the Jackson Academy Raider Baseball team. Sharpen your skills with technical and strategic instruction. T-shirt and lunch included. Come spend the day with the Raiders! Grades: 2nd–6th. Fee: $50. Meet at Raider Park. April 14. 9:00–3:00.

Boys Basketball CampJA Raiders Coach Bill Ball and his staff offer an instructional camp designed to meet the needs of rising ballplayers of all abilities. Basketball fundamentals, good sportsmanship, a positive attitude, and enthusiasm will be emphasized in a wholesome camp atmosphere. T-shirt is included. Grades: 2nd–9th. Fee: $80. Meet in the Gym. June 19–22. 9:00–12:00.

Girls Basketball Camp Lady Raiders Coach Jan Sojourner and her assistants will lead participants in learning basketball fundamentals and achieving a new level of playing ability in an environment that is both challenging and fun. T-shirt is included. Grades: 2nd–9th. Fee: $80. Meet in the Gym. June 19–22. 1:00–5:00.

Cheerleading/Accent CampThis non-stop week of action includes a variety of activities designed to develop cheer and dance team skills, and is led by our award-winning JA Accents and JA Varsity

Cheerleaders. Wear shorts, top, and tennis shoes. T-shirt is included. Grades: Rising PK–6th. Fee: $80. Meet in the Gym. July 17–20. 9:00–12:00.

Fast Pitch Softball CampCoach Will Whitehead and assistants will work on individual and team softball techniques in a fast-paced camp for girls of all levels of playing ability. T-shirt is included. Grades: 3rd–8th. Fee: $80. Meet at the softball field at Raider Park. June 26–29. 9:00–12:00.

Football CampJA Raider Football staff will lead participants in basic football skills including passing, receiving, running, blocking, and tackling. Stay ’n’ Play Tennis CampBeginner and intermediate level tennis instruction will be available this summer for the PK–4th grade student! Instructor Emillia Viljoen will instruct campers in basic techniques, scoring, strategy, and tennis etiquette. Racquets will be provided for use during camp. Get ready for some fun on the courts! Tennis CampCoach Colleen Roberts and her staff invite you to join them for a week of tennis on the new courts at Raider Park. Beginner and intermediate players will be taught the basics of the game including strokes, keeping score, and sportsmanship. Shorts with pockets are helpful, and non-marking tennis shoes are required. Bring your own racquet or use one of ours. T-shirt included. Grades: 3rd–9th. Fee: $80. VolleyballCome learn the basics of volleyball from the Three Time State Champion Lady Raiders! We will be looking at the fundamentals of volleyball as well as basic principals of team sports and sportsmanship. Already know the basics? Brush up before the season! Whether you’re a first-timer or or an experienced player, come join us for a fun week. Led by Coach Christina Lawrence. Go Lady Raiders! Grades: 2nd–8th. Fee: $80. Meet in the Raider Gym. Beat the HeatJuly is hot! Join us on the north practice field on campus for a fun way to beat the heat! Cool off in the water slides, slip and slides, and enjoy other water fun. Wear your swimsuit under shorts and a t-shirt, and wear your flip-flops, too. Bring a towel, snack, and water. This camp is led by JA’s Coach Caleb Canterbury. Grades: 2nd–6th. Fee: $80.

Tailgating Fun!This year Jackson Academy will be holding a new camp with games that you can play throughout your life! This camp will offer a wide variety of fun activities that “children of all ages” enjoy. These games include Corn Hole, Kam Jam, Bocce Ball, Ultimate Frisbee, and Ladder Golf, plus others. Get off the couch and come join the fun! Wear comfortable clothes—shorts and T-shirts. Bring your water bottle. This camp is led by JA’s Coach Caleb Canterbury. Grades: 3rd–6th. Fee: $80. Soccer ShotsWe are happy to welcome Soccer Shots to our summer camp schedule. Derek Rooker’s Soccer Shots program is an engaging children’s soccer program with a focus on character development. Their caring team positively impacts children’s lives on and off the field through its best-in-class coaching, communication, and curriculum. This expert-approved curriculum is age-appropriate and aligns with childhood education standards. Grades: K3, PK, K. Fee: $125. Meet at the north practice field on Campus. June 5–8. 8:30–11:30. Kung Fu KidsThis returning camp is offered by the award-winning Academy of Kung Fu, and is martial arts training at its best! Boys and girls will enjoy exciting and fun basic Kung Fu training. Students will learn age specific Kung Fu techniques, self defense, and bully prevention. These lessons will help to develop focus, coordination, and confidence. This camp also incorporates character development lessons including respect, self-discipline, patience, and compassion. Kids love it because it’s fun! Fast Finger Challenge!Who will be our top typist? Most improved? What is your WPM (words per minute)? Our campers will be challenged every day through fun missions to master keystrokes. Our lessons will move students through a series of review, practices, and exercises, while introducing new keys with each lesson. Learn skills that will be utilized for a lifetime. Research shows that early development of typing skills can be linked to improved language art skills, gains in spelling, vocabulary, and written composition. Each camp will also include a fun STEM activity that involves Lego® Robotics. Computers will be provided. Camp is limited to 12 students. Grades: 3rd, 4th, 5th. Fee: $130. Meet in the small classroom in the Learning Center. June 19–23. 1:00–3:00.

Art ExplorationsFor all of those who love to paint, draw, or doodle, come and learn the basics of using several different art media. We will be using pencils, color pencils, pastels, and all different types of paint to develop your own style and promote new skills. All materials are included in the price of the class. This class will be taught by JA art teacher Avery Truett. Class is limited to 15 campers. Grades: 2nd–4th. Fee: $150. Meet in the JA Lower School Art Room. June 26-29. 9:00–11:00.

Crafty Creations Students will create all sorts of projects using different types of media. All materials and supplies are included in the price of the class. This class will be taught by JA art teacher Lisa Perkins. Class is limited to 12 campers. Grades: PK, K, 1st. Fee: $95. Meet in the JA Lower School Art Room. June 19–22. 1:00–2:00.

Summer Dance Sea CruiseJoin us this summer for a Dance Sea Cruise! Once aboard the ship, our first stop each day will be the spa where we will create our wardrobe for the day, whether we are visiting mermaid lagoon with our younger dancers or the streets of Madrid with our older girls. Our ship will stop in a different locale each day. You will not want to miss the Voyage of the Summer!

�� Fairy�Tale�Voyage Our younger dancers will have a unique experience

� �Sail�Around�the�World Come travel the world on our cruise ship! Learn the

Summer ShowoffsWith its beginnings in Jackson, Mississippi, Summer Showoffs has grown into one of the largest show-choir camps of its kind. Spend a week with us at camp at Jackson Academy this summer. Summer Showoffs is great for self-esteem, coordination, and confidence. This camp teaches that singing, dancing, and speaking on stage can be fun! Grades included in this camp are K-12th. Your child will meet Monday–Thursday to rehearse group singing, choreography, solos, and the correct way to speak and use the microphone. On Friday we will have a dress rehearsal and then a grand performance for friends and family. Bring your friends and join us this summer and…Show Off! June 12–16. Meet in Performing Arts Center. Bricks 4 Kidz CampOur Bricks 4 Kidz camps are built around our proprietary motorized model plans, designed by engineers and architects. Our specially designed project kits and theme-based models provide the building blocks for Bricks 4 Kidz approach to educational play. We learn, we build, we play with Lego® bricks!

Lego®�Batman�Engineering�CampWe are looking for some Lego®-building heroes to join the Bricks 4 Kidz League at Jackson Academy! We’ll use a variety of Lego®-building techniques from motor-

ized Lego® models to mosaics using plans developed by architects and engineers. At Brick 4 Kidz camps, we use Lego® bricks to build amazing worlds of fun with a variety of exciting themes that engage children in STEM-enriched activities! Don’t miss out on learning with Legos®! Limited number of campers. Grades: K–4th. Fee: $175. Meet in the Jackson Academy Cafeteria. June 19–22. 9:00–12:00.

Essentials of EtiquetteJoin us for a new camp this summer! This new camp, offered by Evelyn Harris, introduces and re-enforces etiquette skills for our 21st century young people. The camp consists of three days of fun and instruction. Day One offers instruction with knife and spoon use and how to politely eat finger foods. Introductions will also be practiced. Day Two will be a day of “how to’s”: use of the fork, invitations, thank you notes, and phone/home/internet safety. Day Three will put all of what our campers have learned to a test when they are served a five-course meal! This camp is limited to 10 campers—register early to secure your place! Grades: 3rd–6th. Fee: $90, includes the meal at the end of camp. Meet in the Lobby of the Performing Arts Center. July 10–12. 10:30–12:00.

SEW Fun Studios Beach Camp!Join SEW FUN Studios at Jackson Academy to sew beach-themed projects! We will be creating all new projects that are perfect for your beach getaway, while learning basic sewing skills and principals of design. Class tuition includes all fabric, notions,

and use of a sewing machine. All ability levels are welcome. Don’t miss out on the fun! SEW FUN Studios camps are SEW much fun! Grades: rising 2nd–6th. Fee: $225. Meet in the Lower School Art Room, 2nd floor. July 10–13, 9:00–12:00.

Maker FaireCome join us for two sessions of Maker Faire, where imagination and creativity explode!

� Session�I Students will explore the unknown while creating giant

spirographs, Tapigami (sculptures from tape), Spinbots (working Artbot made from surplus motors, switches, and laser parts), Riverpolis (boat that will float down a camp-made river), a lunch box guitar, and so much more! Camp will conclude with a Maker Family Session in which campers will create their own Maker Station and invite others to explore! Grades: 1st–6th. Fee: $125. Meet in the JA Cafeteria. July 10–14. 9:00–12:00.

� Session�II Students will create wearable electronics, survival gear

made of recyclable items, and Strawbees (massive mechanical constructions made of drinking straws). They will explore daily chemistry projects such as homemade slime, kinetic sand, anti-gravity jars, and much more. Camp will conclude with a Maker Family Session in which campers create their own Maker Station and invite others to explore! Grades: 1st–6th. Fee: $125. Meet in the JA Cafeteria. July 10-14. 12:30–3:30.

Minimum number of students per session: 10. Students who also pay for Session II may bring a sack lunch and stay for the afternoon session. Come spend the day with Maker Faire!

ShowstoppersJackson�Academy’s�Showchoir�and�Choral�Music�CampCome learn the skills necessary for success in showchoir and choral singing. Master three choreographed/staged showchoir numbers plus two choral pieces. Interest sessions throughout the week include audition etiquette, vocal technique, and the importance of facial expression. Finally, feel the rush of adrenaline as you take the stage on Friday to perform!

Performances will be held on Friday, July 21, 2017, and are free to the public. Showstoppers is directed and choreographed by Katie Shores, with assistant director Amy Arinder and accompanist Nancy Cheney.

Showstoppers counselors are members of JA’s award-winning ENCORE showchoir. Meet in Jackson Academy’s Performing Arts Center. Grades: 4th–6th. Fee: $150 (includes music, snacks, camp water bottle, and camp T-shirt). July 17–21. 12:30–3:30. Performance on Friday at 3:00. Grades: 7th–9th. Stem Camps� �Minecraft�Star�Wars:�Tatooine Join our Lower School STEM instructor, Cliff Powers, on

a creative adventure to recreate the planet Tatooine using MinecraftEdu. Each participant will be issued his/her own Macbook for use during the camp, so no other devices are required or needed. Students will create a Tatooine village as well as such iconic landmarks as Jabba’s Palace and Cantina. No prior Minecraft experience is necessary. Class meets in the lower school STEM lab, and is limited to 20 campers. Grades included in this camp: Rising 4th–rising 7th. June 26–29. 9:00–12:00 (Students who also register and pay for the afternoon Minecraft Endor camp may bring a sack lunch and stay for the day.) Cost: $125.

� Minecraft�Star�Wars:�Endor Join our Lower School STEM instructor, Cliff Powers,

Students will create an AT-AT, AT-ST, and the Ewok village. No prior Minecraft experience is necessary. Class meets in the Lower School STEM lab and is limited to 20 campers. other devices are required or needed. Students will create such familiar locations as the Visitor’s Center, raptor bunker, and T-Rex enclosure. No prior Minecraft experience is necessary. Class meets in the Lower School STEM lab and is limited to 20 campers. Grades included in this camp: Rising 4th–rising 7th. July 17–20. 9:00–12:00 (Students who register and pay for the afternoon Minecraft: Medieval Kingdom camp may bring a sack lunch and stay for the day.) Cost: $125.

Computer TotsPirates,�Robots,�Lego®�Challenge�and�More!Alas! The pirates have landed and are looking for their treasure chest! This camp is filled with robots of every kind and packed full of adventures! Build pirate ships and robots with Legos. Program robots and work coding activities on iPads and laptops. Dress up as a pirate and take your selfie pictures! Guaranteed to generate smiles, giggles, and laughs with our STEM activities (science, technology, engineering, and math). This camp accommodates 6–20 campers. Grades: K3, PK, K, 1st. Fee $130. Meet in the Preschool Library. July 10–13. 10:00–12:00.

Summer Academic WorkshopsAll workshops will meet in the Learning Center. All workshops are $200.

� �Writing�Mechanics�(rising�9th�-12th) July 24–28. 9:00–11:00 Students will learn the basics of writing essays, which includes

format, content, punctuation, and grammatical structure. Students will be exposed to skills needed to formulate a cohesive essay. In addition, documentation of sources for term papers will be covered.

� �Literature/Grammar/Vocabulary�(rising�5th–6th�and�rising�7th–8th) July 24–28. 9:00–11:00 Learn the nuts and bolts of active reading skills to master reading

comprehension using summer reading materials. Students will learn ways to study vocabulary effectively and store information in memory. Basic grammar skills will be reviewed, and students will receive a preview of skills needed to master the understanding of grammar and its applications in speaking and writing.

Math WorkshopsStudents enrolled in the math workshops will review skills needed to begin the course and preview beginning concepts of the course so that they can experience success in the classroom.

Camp PolicyIn case of cancellation after registering for a camp, if Jackson Academy is notified in writing at least two weeks prior to the start of a camp, 100 percent of the fee will be refunded. If Jackson Academy is notified at least one week prior to the start of a camp, 50 percent of the fee will be refunded. Less than one week’s notice of cancellation will result in the forfeiture of all fees paid.

Unless the Marketing and Communications Office is notified in writing, a signature below indicates that permission is given for photographs and videos of camp participants to appear in any media.

In consideration for allowing my child(ren) to attend the indicated program(s), I(parent/guardian) hereby release and discharge Jackson Academy, its employees, agents, trustees, and representatives from any and all liabilities, damages, costs, expenses, actions, causes of action, and/or suits of any kind or nature arising out of my child(ren)’s participation in the program(s)/camp(s).

Summer Program Reservations are only held with a completed registration form along with full payment and signa-ture. Please make checks payable to Jackson Academy.
