Kent Masson “He is dedicated to what he does and loves what he does,” says one TCH student about our Teacher of the Year.

Kent Masson became an English teacher and coach (football running back, and wrestling) at Teurlings Catholic High School in 2003. Since then he has brought three wrestling club championship titles to the school. He also challenges his students academically in ways to make them better writers. “Coach Masson is a great teacher. He understands how to interact with students and brings out the best in every student.”

The former television journalist is committed to the advancement of writers at Teurlings Catholic. His focus is to assure, “students graduate from TCH with the ability to create quality papers, critiques, and analysis that will carry them through their college careers.”

Kent attained his B.A. from Southeastern Louisiana University. He is a member of National Teachers of English (NTE), the Louisiana chapter of the American Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Recreation, and Dance (LAAPHERD), and the Louisiana High School Coaches Association (LHSCA).

He and his wife Jan have two children, Bryant, a TCH sophomore, and Elizabeth “Libby” who is nine years old. They are members of St. Genevieve Church. Kent is a Eucharistic Minister and former member of the Knights of Columbus in Kenner, LA. The Brother Martin High School alum has been associated with Catholic education for most of his life. “I honestly believe the most positive influence a teacher or administrator can have on a student is the development of a child’s faith. When you help students learn English, Math, Science, you are preparing them for a bright future and flourishing careers. When you fuse the Catholic faith within those areas, you are developing a Christian, which is a vital part of our society.”

Robert Boudreaux Teurlings Catholic is proud to honor Robert Boudreaux as Outstanding Achiever/Supporter of the Year. Robert embodies the character and passion of a true Rebel. He graduated from TCH in 1969. His wife, the former Elizabeth “Liz” Thibodeaux, is also a TCH ’69 graduate.

The Teurlings tradition goes beyond Robert and his lovely wife. Both of Robert’s brothers and a sister are Teurlings Catholic graduates. Robert’s mother retired from TCH after working in the school cafeteria for many years.

Their children graduated from Teurlings: Lynzie 1999 and Bo 2008, who is also married to a TCH graduate, Jordan Ray 2008. Their first grandchild, daughter of Lynzie and her husband Ryan, is named Genevieve (which some say, practically pre-destines her to become a Rebel when she grows up.)

“We are all graduates of TCH!” he proudly states. “Teurlings Catholic High School has provided an outstanding education for success for our family”.

Robert has chaired the Rebel Open for the TCHS Foundation for almost two decades. For the past several years, he has been a volunteer Rebel golf coach. After his very first year of coaching, the LHSAA recognized his committee for bringing the state high school golf championships to the Acadiana area and honored the committee with its “Super Sport Award.” Other accolades include being selected to serve on the Governor’s Council on Physical Fitness and Sports as well as serving as State Director for Louisiana USSSA for twenty years, and as USSSA National President for two terms. He was presented the “Presidents” award in 1982 and 1993, one of only three people to ever win this prestigious award twice.

Various TCH committees, including RABC and TASC have had Robert at the helm. He exudes great energy and motivates others to join in whatever activity he is working.

Robert is the State Office Administrator for the Knights of Columbus. He and Liz are members of Sacred Heart Church in Broussard, LA.

Memorial & Honorary AwardsTCH Memorial Award (established 1980)Presented to a graduating senior who has exhibited ability and determination during his or her years at Teurlings Catholic High School. Luke Gossen

Roddy Richard Memorial Award (established 1999)This fund was established in Roddy Richard’s name to perpetuate his memory in a way that is personal and meaningful to his family, his friends, and his Alma Mater. Interest generated by the fund will financially assist a high school student with tuition and fees to attend Teurlings Catholic High School. The student selected each year is one who best exemplifies the traits that made Roddy (TCH ’83) special—one who is always a cheerful example to other students, displays the qualities of leadership, serves and participates at his church parish, and has maintained a strong academic grade point average. Reed Broussard, Austin Champagne, Brant Hanks

Brandon Latiolais Award (established 2000)Dr. and Mrs. Terry Latiolais have established this award in memory of their son Brandon (TCH ‘94) who left a remarkable impression on his Alma Mater and on all who knew him. It will serve to maintain Brandon’s persona at TCH while allowing future generations to know about him as well. The scholarship is a cash award in recognition of the academic accomplishments of a Teurlings graduating student, based upon that student’s ACT scores and future educational plans. Neil Sand

Nick Weber Memorial Award (established 2002)This fund was lovingly established in Nick’s name by his parents Tessie and Keith Weber, his family, his classmates of TCH 2001, and his many friends to carry on his memory. Interest generated by the fund will financially assist a high school student with tuition and/or fees to attend Teurlings Catholic High School. The student selected each year is one who best exemplifies the traits of Nick—always willing to help others, is courteous and honest, participates in a variety of school activities, demonstrates a deep appreciation for the closeness of family and friends, and genuinely loves Teurlings Catholic High School. Aaron Broussard

Pvt. Mark W. Graham Character Award (established 2008) Graduating seniors who best exemplify the core values of character - caring, honesty, respect, responsibility, and citizenship – and provide examples of being a positive role model for others. This cash award is given regardless of family background, race, financial status, academic achievement or physical condition. Anyone can earn respect and admiration by being a person of character; the Mark W. Graham Foundation’s aim is to honor students whose lives and achievements demonstrate an enduring commitment to qualities associated with goodness. Award is issued by the Mark W. Graham Foundation. Perry Young

Terri L. Baudier Memorial (established 2009)Mr. Bruce Baudier, daughter Brie, family members, and friends of former TCH Assistant Principal Terri Louque

Baudier (TCH 1996 – 2008) have established the Terri L. Baudier Memorial Award to perpetuate her memory and champion the causes she believed in. Mrs. Baudier loved TCH and every student that walked through its “main breezeway.” She believed the good in every student was only a conversation away. She encouraged the underdog and rallied behind their efforts. Mrs. Baudier was a hard worker and admired those who willingly took on extra responsibilities and worked for the betterment of the school and its student body. Fairness and compassion are two qualities that allowed Mrs. Baudier to be a model for Catholic education and these qualities serve as a guide for the selection of our honoree. Madi Miller

Amie Devillier Delahoussaye Award (established 2009)A cash award established by C & R Fabrication, Inc. in recognition of the accomplishments of a Teurlings Catholic softball graduate, based on the following qualifying standards: The TCH senior who has been a Lady Rebel varsity softball player for a minimum of 2 years; The TCH student who has been accepted and is in the process of enrollment within a college or university for the fall semester immediately following graduation from Teurlings Catholic; The TCH student who has earned a G.P.A. of 3.4 or higher. Kenzie Dupont Richard Claude Rees Humanitarian Award (established 2013)Anyone who knew “Ricky Rees,” knew of his insatiable desire to help anyone and everyone who asked or needed his assistance, especially if he could help without attracting any attention to himself. The Richard Claude Rees Humanitarian Award was designed to recognize a student whose contributions to his/her school, church, or community might have gone unrecognized by other customary awards but are certainly not unappreciated. The award is not exclusive to academic or athletic achievement but is presented to a senior from Teurlings Catholic High School who has demonstrated a genuine desire to help others through action and deed. The honoree is chosen by members of the Rees family through recommendations from the administration and staff of Teurlings Catholic High School. Natalie Usie

Tyler Broussard, Lyl Faulk, Jakyre Journet, Morganne Ned

Dolores “Dee” Zimmerman Fund (in progress)The essence of school spirit and always at the forefront, Dee (TCH ‘71) loved Teurlings and the families who grew up there and her love did not diminish after graduation . She became a source of information for all things Teurlings as she kept classmates and friends connected. Contributions are earmarked for an award to recognize her love and support of her Alma Mater. Diocese of Lafayette Student of the Year Elizabeth Heintz The daughter of Joe and Melanie Heintz, Outstanding Student of the Year Elizabeth Heintz admits she comes from a very Catholic family. “Faith is important to my entire family, not only here at school or at St. Elizabeth Church (where she is a Eucharistic Minister, Lector and Altar Server) but in my life.” That faith and her strong pro-life beliefs led Elizabeth to Camp Joshua and ultimately to work with the Diocesan PULSE movement. She served as president of the TCHS Rebels for Life, vice president of Athletes for Christ, Chaplain of the Beta Club and was a member of the TCHS Retreat Ministry Core Team, as well as a Eucharistic Minister and Morning Prayer Leader on campus. She was named to the All State Academic Composite Teams in Basketball and Track.

Academics, of course, are important to Elizabeth, as the daughter and granddaughter of educators. She has maintained a 4.0 GPA and graduated with 33 college credit hours. “In addition to the strong faith formation at TCHS, the Dual Enrollment Program has been a strong motivating factor for me,” she notes.

Graduation HonoreesElizabeth Heintzreceived the Msgr. William J. Teurlings Award, the highest award bestowed upon any TCH graduate.

Madi Miller and Hadley Smith
