06 May 2015 10 Mile Kildwick 19:30 Skipton CC

Results for WEEK 4 of the Kildwick 10 mile TT 06 th May 2015 Hello again everyone, I hope you’ve all had a good winter and some enjoyable riding. Sorry I’ve appeared a bit later this year but I must have known that there was something amiss with the weather and delayed my return to Blighty from the warmth of Australia. I’ll catch up with previous weeks results at a later time though I know that they’ve already appeared on Facebook . I’ll add some age standard times to them.It was a well run event tonight and the first run by Skipton CC, so well done to them and all the people that turned out on a very cold night for marshalling, pushing off, and other duties. Despite rider numbers being low there were some fast riders amongst the 15 who did ride. First overall was Thomas Wood who rode well in windy and cold conditions – and but for that truck at the roundabout Andrew may have just pipped him ;-)First Vet home was Seth Smith with a very good overall time of 22:16. Look forward to seeing you next week and hopefully in much warmer conditions.(Any errors or omissions please let me know.)

13 May 2015 10 Mile Kildwick 19:30 Bronte WCC

Results of the Kildwick 10 mile TT 13 th May 2015 Thank you all riders tonight for giving a splendid show of speed. Steve Ayres was going like a steam train when he passed the finish line and completed with an excellent time of 21:05 taking tonight’s honours. Andrew Wooler was within a hair’s breadth of his own best time and Alex Fold pulled out a time only 45’ down on his best time at Kildwick last season – not bad for his first ride on the course this year.In the Vets category Peter Yates starred having a +5:17 on his standard time so sailed into 1 st place. Adrian Jones, 4th overall, was second in the vets category beating his best ‘ + ‘ time on the course last year by 34’; Nigel Austin was 3 rd with a standard time a little down on his times last year but that will no doubt improve knowing Nigel!Of the younger riders tonight, Alex Barusevicus had a time of 23:14 which was only 6 seconds slower than his best time on the course last year – well done Alex.A couple of the riders missed the entrance to the finish and so, based on conversations with the timekeeper, were given estimated times as near to the correct time as possible. (Can later be corrected with the use of their computers)Hope to see you all again next week....we’re having a few darkish evenings so lights would be a good idea if you haven’t already got them.(Any errors or omissions please let me know.)

Results for Number 9 (08 th July 2015) of the Kildwick 10 mile TT’s for 2015 It was a dry but windy night and rider numbers were small. Where has everyone disappeared to? Perhaps it had something to do with a local cyclo-cross event and the prospect of bad weather after a very wet and dreary day up until this evening. However, given the conditions of the wind being awful on the outward journey and not much better coming back, Ben Cook recorded the good time of 23:38 to take first place overall and to take first place in the Vets category on age standard times. David Green took second place overall and also second in the Vet’s category, third overall was first time event rider Lee Broadley. Well done to those three. Third Vet tonight was another relative newcomer to our time trials, Scott Blau. Thank you to all riders for turning out tonight and we hope to see you again soon.(I did have a missing number at the end of the evening....the rider knows who they are ;-) ...perhaps give it to someone who is coming next week to return if you’re not riding next time.)It was one of those rare nights when we had as many marshals as competitors so thanks to Sandra, Paul, Ernie, Tony, John, Norman and yours truly for turning out tonight. Here are tonight’s results. (Any errors or omissions please let me know.)

Results for Number 10 (15 th July 2015) of the Kildwick 10 mile TT’s for 2015 It was Skipton CC’s turn for timing and marshalling tonight and a good job was done. Thanks to Steve, Karen, Raymond, the two Simons, Lawrence and Paula and anyone else who may have been out on the course helping out.It was a good night with excellent weather conditions, although the later riders did benefit from a slight drop in wind speed (see Met office stats at end of results). There were excellent times with Steve Irwin coming home first in a time of 20:08. He was also first Vet on standard with an excellent +6minutes 10 seconds faster than his age standard time. Second tonight was Steve Ayres from VC Bradford in a time of 21:22 and third was Seth Smith in 22:11. Seth was second Vet on standard time having a + of 4 minutes and 2 seconds and third in the Vets category was Gary Smith with a + 3 minutes 56 seconds. The two younger riders deserve a mention: George Fox riding an excellent time of 22:30 and Ewan Cameron a 23:49.No riders took more than 30 minutes and Paul Holliman – riding a sporting hybrid bike and riding the TT for the first time, came in at 29:23....well done.Welcome to one or two new riders tonight, we hope to see you again and to a few old friends who we haven’t seen for a while who came to give ‘the race of truth’ another go tonight! Please note that there is a tool box and a water bottle in the large red spotted clothing bag we take to the start to collect riders’ belongings. They’ll be at the start next week. Please tab down beyond the results to read the news about what is coming up on the programme for this year. Here are tonight’s results. 22 July 2015 10 Mile Kildwick 19:30 Bronte WCC

Results for Number 11(22 nd July 2015) of the Kildwick 10 mile TT’s for 2015 Despite some heavy showers on and off all day we managed to have a dry run for tonight’s TT. However, it was very chilly at the start and despite what the Met Office tells us (see below) the westerly felt to be rather more than 7 miles per hour! The outward bound leg of the course was very tough but augured well for the return trip which proved to be the case...riders blasting up the finishing chute (when not hampered by thoughtless drivers parking in said chute and flinging open their door – well done Russell for missing that one!). We contended yet again, with Highways workers who tonight were white- lining. Luckily they held off until after the riders had gone through so there were no stoppages for them. There were 14 riders tonight and fastest time came from Steve Ayres of VC Bradford/Pennine with a very good time of 21:32. But for that tough head wind out it could have been a night for a 20 for Steve. Adrian Jones, PHMas, posted second fastest time with 22:53, this time also giving him fastest Vet.....but for that shifter coming off, who knows what his time could have been? Third fastest overall and second in the Vets category was Russell Marsden of Pendle Forest CC in 23:26. Simon Pickard , Jedi, in 23:38 took third place in the Vets.Steve Moorhouse did a ride worthy of mention – having taken a minute off his previous best for this season on his last ride out he clipped a further 13 seconds off that time tonight. In a stiff outward wind that was some ride!Thank you to all marshals and helpers tonight and to all riders for turning up and staying safe.Don’t forget the new Cracoe course 10 mile TT tomorrow night – 7.30 start at the layby just before dropping into Cracoe village. There should be plenty of parking in the layby but if not there should be parking at the village hall about 100 metres further on and turn left, (towards Hetton). Hot drinks and/or food available on the night:

2015

Results for Cracoe Number 1. 23 rd July 2015 It was a pleasant evening for this first Cracoe TT on an old course but now starting and finishing in Cracoe rather than Skipton. What a great result from this very tough course and a course record produced from Steve Ayres whose legs didn’t appear to be suffering from last night’s exertions in the Kildwick 10. The marshals at the “Duck Pond” commented on the blistering speeds riders achieved both outward and homeward on this part of the course and they certainly can’t have been hanging around on the rest of the course. Did any rider actually get caught in the police radar check near the Skipton roundabout??!! There were a few comments from riders that they may have over- cooked it a bit going out...because it’s a bit of a grind coming home and the wind certainly wasn’t helping. One or two riders were caught out by the length of that final straight through Cracoe to the finish - which comes about 100 metres short of the corner before the start of the descent to the quarry. Be warned for next week. All riders and marshals took advantage of the cafe for both food and drinks; Sarah and Steve who were manning it tonight are happy to be there next week too. There are toilet facilities available. At the finish riders stayed around longer than usual for a chat and a ‘brew’. It was an enjoyable evening.NB It will be touch and go as to whether the third Cracoe TT can be run on August 4 th as, once again, we are hit by road works which will start at the turn around point at the roundabout in Skipton on August 3rd. These works will commence each night at 8pm for one week from that date. I will obviously keep you informed nearer that time but if you want to be sure of trying out this new course which ALL riders tonight gave the ‘thumbs up’ then please come next Thursday before the roadworks commence. Thank you to Joe, Terry, Ian, John, Tony, John for marshalling , pushing off and time-keeping and to all riders for coming along.See you next week....Here are tonight’s results. (Any errors or omissions please let me know.)

29 July 2015 10 Mile Kildwick 19:30 Bronte WCC

Results for Number 12(29th July 2015) of the Kildwick 10 mile TT’s for 2015What can I say? Damp? Soggy? Cold? Conditions were not good and certainly it ran through my mind whether the event should be run or not. However, there appeared to be a break in the weather and we proceeded, and, in the circumstances we had some very good times. Tonight’s TT seemed to attract the younger end of riders....the Vets category almost outnumbered.....perhaps many of the usual Vets riders were at home with their feet up watching the rain pour down whilst enjoying a quiet noggin of red!Fastest time tonight came from Rob Weir, Ilkley CC, in 21:57 who nudged Jonny Tomes , Jedi, into second place with 22:11. Third place tonight was Seth Smith only 5 seconds behind Jonny in 22:16. This time gave Seth fastest Vet on overall time but he lost out on Standard timing to Ged Millward who had a +4:23 on his age standard ; Seth came in with a +3:57. Third fastest Vet was Gary Smith with a 23:01 but he too was pipped on standard time by Andrew Dent who therefore took 3 rd on Standard time with a +3:36.It was good to see two ladies riding tonight – well done to both of them and a welcome also to Denis Parkinson who rode his first TT. What a night to choose!Thank you to all riders for turning out on a night like tonight and particularly to the marshals and others who were at the roundabout and start and finish area. That’s Tony, John, Terry, Joe, Ernie.......we couldn’t run these TT’s without you. Please also note that the remaining Kildwick TT’s start at 7pm. In fact, any of the events after the 1 st August start 7 p.m. Don’t forget the new Cracoe course 10 mile TT tomorrow night – 7.30 start at the layby just before dropping into Cracoe village. There should be plenty of parking in the layby but if not there should be parking at the village hall about 100 metres further on and turn left, (towards Hetton). Hot drinks and/or food available on the night at:

Results for Cracoe Number 2. (10 mile TT) 30th July 2015Tonight’s TT got off to a good start with sunshine and the prospect that it would remain. The wind direction made for an easy ride out but more difficult coming back. Whilst conditions didn’t appear terribly different from last week the times recorded were slightly down on last week’s results and Steve Ayres’ record time from last week still holds good. Little consolation for Steve this evening though, who had a disaster with his headset coming adrift....lucky for him it happened right on the start line and not on the fast decent into Rylstone. We hope it isn’t going to be too costly a fix.Seth Smith had the fastest time tonight taking one second of his time from last week and finishing in 22:48. He was also first Vet home and finished with a +3:25 on standard time. Second tonight was Rob Weir in 23:02 and third fastest Steve Colloby in 23:09 who took 30 seconds off his time from last week; Steve was third Vet on standard time with a +3:00 and Ged Millward took 2nd Vet on standard time with a +3:19.It was good to see that competitors and marshals took advantage of Sarah and Steve Haynes keeping the cafe open until the event had finished. Thank you to them for doing this and providing an appreciated facility. Thanks go to marshals Ray and Ian at the Duckpond, Terry and Joe at the Skipton roundabout and Joe at the Cracoe/ Hetton junction. Thanks to John for time-keeping and Tony pushing off. Thanks to those riders who came along to support the event.NB It will be touch and go as to whether the third Cracoe TT can be run on August 4 th as, once again, we are hit by road works which will start at the turn around point at the roundabout in Skipton on August 3rd. I will obviously keep you informed nearer that time – hopefully by next Monday evening I will have a clearer idea by going out there to investigate what is actually being done and where the lights will be erected. Bearing in mind that the event will start at 7PM we may be able to get out of the way before the workmen begin erecting signs. I will notify everyone by email and/or Facebook. Here are tonight’s results. (Any errors or omissions please let me know.)

Results for Cracoe Number 3. (10 mile TT) 04 th August 2015 Tonight’s guest write up is by Steve Ayres (VC Bradford); with his legs as white as an arctic winter and receding hair more orange than duck a l’ he’s often referred to as the ‘looker’ of the local cycling scene! It was good news to read the Facebook update from Heather last night to confirm that tonight’s TT was on. Thankfully the planned roadworks at the turn would not be in place until we were all safely around and heading back to Cracoe. After last weeks ‘carbon crumble’ I was keen to get one more ride in on the course before the end of the season. I love this course, it’s a real test with tough drags and sweeping downhills; you can’t just go through the motions on this one! The turn is usually quiet as well, although unfortunately I could caught behind one of the road work trucks tonight, but better than that them start earlier! As I drove over it was definitely wet around Skipton, but further along the road at the Sunnyside Cafe (check it out when you’re riding past Sarah and Steve make some top class flapjack!) it was surprisingly dry. The flags as the café suggested a stiff head/cross wind out to the turn with some assistance back, the weather report suggests around 14-16mph, which felt about right. However, in reality the wind seemed all over the place. I’m sure at times it was totally the opposite. You ideally need to save a little for the two drags towards Cracoe on the way back, I was hoping the wind would give us a push up there tonight, but they seemed as tough as ever (not sure they will ever be easy). It’s always a bit dangerous to make direct comparisons from week to week, but it looks as though this evening may have been a tad slower than last week based on other rider’s times. On the night the fastest time was 22:41 by myself. Joe Moses (JLT Condor) was second with 23:22 and just pipped Billy Bulmer (All Terrain Cycles) by 2 seconds into third with 23:24. Fastest lady was Nina Benson (Ilkley CC) with an excellent 26:00 on her first ride on the course, well done! Nina was also first placed Vet on standard, with Ben Cook (Bronte Wheelers) second vet with his time of 24:46. Unusually, from the 9 riders only 2 were vets. Melissa Greaves (Bronte Wheelers) was second placed lady with her 30:23.Many thanks to Heather and all the marshals tonight, without your efforts the local TT’s would be a lot fewer and farer between. Thanks also to Seth, who on a night when he wasn’t feeling great made the effort to come along and move up/down the course cheering all on, it really makes a difference! And finally thanks to Raymond Bracewell for some really great photos, top standard as usual! Not too many events left now, but still time for a couple of blasts at Kildwick and a grovel up the Granby Hill climb (dates below)! Here are tonight’s results. Results for Number 13(05 th August 2015) of the Kildwick 10 mile TT’s for 2015 It was an excellent night for the Kildwick 10 with what little rain we had at the start fading out as the riders started and ceasing before they arrived home. The air was fresh and clear and what little wind there was helped on the outward stretch, boosting

riders around that awkward little rise into the corner before Cononley Lane Ends. The times reflected the conditions and the three podium places tonight were taken by Steve Ayres with a terrific ride of 21:05 – that 20’ eluding him by a small margin once again; Steve Colloby in 21:23 and Gary ‘Dettori’ Smith (he reminds me of the jockey Frankie Dettori...sorry Gary, you’ll no doubt get your leg pulled about that one!) in 21:35. The Vets placing on standard were Steve Colloby in first place with a +4:46, Andrew Dent in second place with + 4:42 and Gary Smith third with a +4:34. First lady home was Melissa Greaves in 27:22Many thanks once again to Joe, Terry and Ernie at the top roundabout; Ray on the middle roundabout ; Ian at Cononley Lane Ends, Tony and John at the start area and anyone else who came along in case they were needed. Your help is greatly appreciated. Thank you to all riders for staying safe and posting some great times.Tomorrow night is the Granby Hill climb and I have attached some details of that below tonight’s results, including a map of the course. We hope to see some of you there for a pleasant ride up to the moors!Next week is the final Kildwick 10 for this season and Skipton CC will be supplying marshals and timekeepers. It has become rather a tradition for those so inclined to have a drink after this final event along the road in The White Lion. I’ll certainly be partaking of a dram and hope that some of you can come along...there may even be a few surprises for those who happen along.......

Another good dry night , like last year with hardly any wind for this tough hill climb. We had blue sky and sunshine – strange I know, but it was like that! Proceedings were rather delayed when ‘yours truly’ got caught in one horrible traffic jam on the by pass to Keighley – if we’d known what we were going to meet just past the Silsden roundabout we’d have turned there and come the back road. However, we finally managed a 7.30 start and luckily all riders had stayed to partake of a bit of masochistic fun!The course is about 3 miles long and the gradient changes by about 266metres. It’s a category 3 climb but even in the car feels as though it should be an HC – perhaps if it was just a little longer it would be! We had 15 hardy mountain goats tonight, 3 fewer than last year. Ernie Hankin was marshalling at the crossroads together with Ian Moore. Luckily we did have two marshals there tonight as Silsden Road earlier in the evening was a little busier than normal and the sun had reduced visibility in one direction. All riders were under strict instructions to obey the rules of the road at the crossing and to watch for marshals signals. At the start line Steve Lloyd - Aire Valley Solutions did the time-keeping whilst Tony Speechley , Bronte Whs, did the pushing off. I was time-keeper at the finish. In the results I’ve put last year’s times for those who rode this course last year – good reference for those valiant enough to try it again.Once again the albaRosa club were out in force and but for Seth Smith, Paul Milnes Cycles, they would have had a full sweep of the top 10 places. Victor was Ben Jacobs, with a course record of 11:59 (will be verified) it was a terrific time and luckily for Ben there’s a nice grassy patch to collapse onto at the finish. A great effort went into that ride - there certainly wasn’t much left in the tank once he was over the line. Seth Smith, Paul Milnes came in second place with another fantastic effort clocking 12:26 and third tonight was Andy Cunningham in 12:48.There were 6 riders in the 40+ category tonight and taking honours in that category was 1. Seth Smith 12:26; 2. Rob Mawer, 13:02 and 3. John Ford, 14:52Special mention to our 60+ rider tonight, Scott Blau riding the hillclimb for the first time and gaining a good time of 15:26 Our one lady rider tonight, Suzie Richards finished a commendable 10th overall in a good time of 14:48Commiserations to Iain Reid who, through mechanical problems had to pull out – hope the bike gets sorted before your trip.Well done to all riders in this testing hill climb - thank you for staying safe. Thank you to all marshals.
