SAUVIGNON BLANCSonoma County
2014
VineyardsThis refreshing Sauvignon Blanc combines fruit from two of Sonoma County’s top regions for the grape. The majority is from an exposed, windy parcel in the Chalk Hill AVA. The remainder is from a relatively warm site in Alexander Valley. Together, these two lots create a Sauvignon Blanc that is rich, highly aromatic and delicious.
Vintage2014 was a fantastic vintage producing high quality fruit. Overall the weather was nearly ideal, with conditions allowing the grapes to have a lot of acidity without being over ripe. This helped to reach our goal to produce a crisper, fresher style. We picked all grapes by early September; the Sauvignon Blanc coming from Chalk Hill being picked last due to the windier site.
WinemakingOur goal with this wine was to capture the essence of the variety and the sites, maintain freshness and avoid any hints of oxidation. We harvested all of the grapes at nighttime to ensure cold fruit at the time of pressing. The must was fermented at cold temperatures in stainless steel tanks with specific yeast strains selected to heighten the inherent aromatics.
Winemaker’s NotesThis forward and refreshing Sauvignon Blanc is light straw in color. It is packed with layers of lemongrass, ripe grapefruit, mild herbaciousness and good minerality. The palate delivers upfront flavors of citrus fruits including red grapefruit and orange peel, followed by mild stone fruit flavors including peach, nectarine and apricot. Very much a fresh style with a lot of Sauvignon Blanc personality, it is great on its own or paired with a first course salad of spinach, citrus segments and goat cheese in lemon vinaigrette. - Mark R.
