Thank you all so much for 11 Years!Welcome to Skate for Hope! I am honored that you have chosen to be a part of this special evening and I am

so grateful for your support and participation.

It is my pleasure to share with all of you that Skate for Hope has raised over $500,000 for breast cancer

research! This milestone and tremendous achievement has only been accomplished with the outstanding

commitment and contribution from everyone here this evening. Each skater in this show has earned their

place in the cast by raising funds to help find a cure. Our show unites generations to work together to fight

this disease that affects so many. We are here tonight to raise awareness and funding; but, also to celebrate

cancer survivors and empower the performers that skate to honor them.

Skate for Hope began as a dream in my heart to help me overcome and heal my soul from my own

experience with cancer. It truly has been the best medicine of my life. In July 2005, I sat late one night talking

with my dear friend Jenny Needham-Semaca and she asked me what continued to drive me to work so

passionately on this show. As I paused and reflected, I realized just how much Skate for Hope had healed me.

I knew then, that what continued to inspire me to run Skate for Hope is the lesson it has taught me. No matter

what challenge or hardship we face in our lives, good can grow from it. This is a life lesson I want to teach my

daughter Natalie. So my answer to Jenny then is the same today. I continue and love my work with Skate for

Hope because it is my living example to my daughter that good can grow from any crisis or challenge.

Always let life, even the difficult times, inspire you and shape your character. Never cower from adversity.

Rise up in every way and walk through it. This is my message for all of the daughters here tonight. That and

always get an annual mammogram!

Sincerest Regards,

Carolyn Bongirno

37 years ago this month, my mother’s battle with cancer ended right here in Bowling

Green. Ever since, I’ve honored her life by doing everything I can to help find a cure for cancer. It is

so possible, if we all work together!

For my courageous mother, a breast cancer survivor who gave life to six beautiful children and continues to show us what it means to live one. I dedicate my role in this year’s Skate for Hope to my mother Amy, who bravely battled breast cancer, and continues to teach her six children (and three grandchildren) about what matters most in life.

To those who have courageously fought the battle against cancer, I applaud and sincerely admire you. Your strength is beyond imaginable, and for that, I will always be amazed and inspired. So I’d like to dedicate this one to you - you who shows us all that giving up is never an option and you who shows us all how to truly live in the moment so that we can cherish the life and the opportunities we have been given. Your unyielding resolve to beat cancer will never cease to inspire me to do my best each day and help in any way I can to get closer to a cure!

This year, my dedication is to two of the most powerful and strong

women I know – Carolyn Bongirno and Heidi Floyd. These two ladies have both gone through one of

the toughest wars that one will ever have to face, and have come

back from this battlefield with a sense of spirit and motivation to spread the word about how we

can all contribute to finding a cure. Both have families of their

own, and have shown not just their family that kindness can go a long

way, but they have begun to show the country. Heidi just ventured up

to the Great North, where Paul and I live in Toronto, and I’m sure she

will do great things. Carolyn aims to expand Skate for Hope all across

the USA. Thank you for inspiring me to be a better person, and for

showing me that it is important to go after something in which you believe. You ladies are the

greatest!~ Piper
