CARING in FAITH for FAMILIES and INDIVIDUALS

Dear Friends in Christ:

“In the poor and outcast, we see Christ’s face; by loving and helping the poor, we love and serve Christ.” – Pope Francis

On October 5, 2014, Pope Francis addressed the annual gathering ofCatholic Charities USA. He spoke in celebration of the work and ministryof all Catholic Charities agencies throughout the country. His Holinessreminds us of the message of Jesus found in the Gospel of St.Matthew to “serve the least of these”—our brothers and sisters inneed; to care for our neighbor, as the Good Samaritan did; to restorehope to young people, help the old, and to include the excluded.

Catholic Charities in Madison exists to do just that. Together, we helpthe vulnerable, whether they be children, aging persons, people withdevelopmental disabilities, or those struggling with drug and alcohol addiction. And our outreach doesn’t stop there. When someone is vulnerable, when someone has fallen on hard times, it often doesn’tjust affect that person, but the whole family. Our core mission is to support both individuals and families by providing real help, real love, and true compassion, seeing Christ’s face in those whom we serve.

Catholic Charities can fulfill its mission to provide help, change lives, andserve all, even the poorest and most vulnerable people, because of thecollective support of our community. We are grateful for the many individual donors, parishes, organizations, foundations, and corporationsthat support the vital work of our agency; for the board of directors whogive of their time, talents, and treasures to make our outreach possible;and for our staff and volunteers who assist our program participants inachieving their personal goals.

Let us go forward to help our neighbor according to God’s plan—tostrengthen families and nurture children. Let us fulfill our call to charitythrough the good works of Catholic Charities!

Faithfully yours in Christ,

The Most Reverend Robert C. Morlino Jackson FonderBishop of Madison President & CEO, Catholic Charities, Diocese of Madison
