Camp Anderson Purpose To support the Local Church by expanding the

Kingdom of God through Evangelism and multi-plying the Kingdom of God through

Discipleship.

Camp Anderson Vision

To build a Christian Youth Camp Ministry in which thousands of young people can come to a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ, that will im-

pact our community and nation.

Our Goal is to Glorify God: Our hearts desire is that God would be glorified through everything we do in His Camp ministry. We acknowledge that God will use us – and that we have a responsibility to allow ourselves to be used by Him, by

keeping clean hearts and pure hands.

Our Calling by God: God has called us to be His Body. A camp ministry that rests upon the

shoulders of great leaders and a godly camp ministry team shouldering the load alongside the churches in our community is an exciting place to be! It is healthy and good! This camp ministry seeks to bring families

and churches together for the common purpose of developing followers of Jesus Christ for life.

Lovingly communicating the Good News of Jesus Christ: We desire to see campers and families transformed by the saving grace of

Jesus. We show grace, kindness and patience with all campers from all different backgrounds, understanding that without love, everything we do

amounts to nothing. We communicate the gospel through the Word of God, through our hearts, through our smiles, through our actions, through our willingness to serve and sacrifice. Our lives are models of the gospel.

Enthusiastically connecting our campers to Gods Word: Men and women for more than 2,000 years have shed their blood and

given their lives to ensure the Word is available and can be read by anyone who wishes to read it; we do not take that lightly. It is the Word

that transforms and changes hearts, not topics. We have a deep passion for the Word of God which is instilled in campers who practice

memorization and daily readings of scripture in their personal devotions.

Making Fully-devoted followers of Jesus Christ for life: We are not interested in merely seeing campers give their lives to Christ. We acknowledge that our end goal will never be seen, but we keep the

goal of helping campers follow Jesus Christ for life. We are in the busi-ness of connecting campers and their families to the local church so

they can grow in Christ and walk with Him for a lifetime.

Camp Ministry Leaders When we compare the Fruit of the Flesh with the Fruit of the Spirit, we

easily understand how important it is for all of our camp ministry leaders to

walk in the daily presence of the Lord. Our camp ministry chooses leaders

in which the fruit of the Spirit is evident in their lives. They aren’t perfect,

but quickly seek to restore one another to follow Jesus together.

Fruit of the Flesh “When you follow the desires of your sinful nature, your lives will produce

these evil results: sexual immorality, impure thoughts, eagerness for lustful

pleasure, idolatry, participation in demonic activities, hostility, quarreling,

jealousy, outbursts of anger, selfish ambition, divisions, the feeling that

everyone is wrong except those in your own little group, envy, drunken-

ness, wild parties, and other kinds of sin. “Let me tell you again, as I have

before, that anyone living that sort of life will not inherit the Kingdom of

God.” Galatians 5:19-21

Fruit of the Spirit “But when the Holy Spirit controls our lives, He will produce this kind of fruit

in us: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentle-

ness, and self-control. Here there is no conflict with the law. Those who

belong to Christ Jesus have nailed the passions and desires of their sinful

nature to His cross and crucified them there. If we are living now by the

Holy Spirit, let us follow the Holy Spirit's leading in every part of our lives.

Let us not become conceited, or irritate one another, or be jealous of

one another.” Galatians 5:22-26 (NLT)

With these passages of scripture in mind, we agree that we must have a

Camp Ministry Code to hold us accountable…

Stand Shoulder to Shoulder We stand united or we will never become the camp leaders God desires us to become. We stand firmly, keeping our eyes on Jesus, and strengthening one another with words and actions of encouragement. We are there for one another and will seek to pursue holy lives together. We want each team member to succeed. We never neglect our post, because others are depending on us to complete our work. “Therefore my beloved brethren, be steadfast, immovable, always, abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that our labor is not in vain.” 1 Corinthians 15:58 (NLT) “So I sought for a man among them who would make a wall and stand in the gap before me on behalf of the land that I should not destroy it, but I found no one.” Ezekiel 22:30 (NLT) “For the eyes of the Lord run to and fro throughout the whole earth to show Himself strong on behalf of those whose hearts are loyal to Him.” 2 Chronicles 16:9a (NLT) Believe the Best about Each Other We do not all look alike, nor should we all have the same personalities. We all have different spiritual gifts; therefore, as individuals we prioritize things differently in ministry. At times we may rub each other the wrong way. When this happens, we talk to each other, and not about each other. We realize that grumbling and complaining very quickly spreads to our campers, their families, and to the community. “But our bodies have many parts, and God has put each part just where He wants it. How strange a body would be if it only had one part! Yes, there are many parts, but only one body. The eye can never say to the hand, “I don’t need you.” The head can’t say to the feet, “I don’t need you.”…If one part suffers all the parts suffer with it, and if one

Talk to One Another, Not About Each Other We are not able to determine each other’s motives. That is left to the Lord. If a camper or even another team member comes to you and says, “So-and-so did this…can you believe that?” You would say something like, “Have you talked with them about it?” Saying this shifts the potential sinful conversation to a practical and helpful solution that honors God. We talk with one another to bring about resolution and restoration, not to vent.

“Likewise you younger people be submissive to your elders. Yes all of you be submissive to one another and be clothed in humility. For God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble. Therefore, humble yourself under the mighty hand of God that He may lift you up in due time.” 1Peter 5:5-6 (NLT)

The daily devotions for this week are taken from the gospels and all of them are the words of Jesus. There are 7 “I AM” statements in the gospels. Each of these statements describe who Jesus said he would be in relationship to us. It is important for us to explore these scriptures so that we can understand who Jesus is and what He wants to be for us and in us in this life! Dig deep into the scriptures and you will find a loving savior who wants to have an intimate re-lationship with you! Answer the questions and read each scripture carefully and God will speak to your heart! ENJOY!

Jesus said, “I am The Bread of Life” READ John 6:22-51 “Jesus said to them, “I am the bread of life; whoever comes to me shall not hunger, and whoever believes in me shall never thirst. “ - John 6:35 If you spend a total of 2 hours a day eating meals and snacks, by the end of one year, you will have spent 730 hours of your year eating. And if you live to be 80 years old, you will have spent 58,400 hours eating. That’s a lot of time eating! Even though that is a lot of time eating, within a few hours of each meal, we always get hungry again. Wouldn’t it be nice not to get hungry? 1. Why were the people really looking for Jesus? (Vs. 26)

______________________________________________________

2. What did Jesus say the work of God was? (Vs. 29)

______________________________________________________

3. What did Jesus say he would never do to those who come

to Him. (vs. 37)

______________________________________________________

4. What did Jesus say he would do on the last day? (Vs. 40)

______________________________________________________

5. Why did Jesus compare himself to food? (Vs.33)

_______________________________________________

18

Page 19: 2014 camp anderson camp book (2)

Just as food sustains physical life, Jesus can sustain our spiritual and eternal life. He is the only one who can grant it. He compares himself to the manna (Ex 16:15) that God sent from heaven to satisfy the hunger of the Israelites while they wandered in the desert. Four characteristics of Jesus’ followers: Materialist – They only wanted him for food. Legalist – They said, “what must we do? Sensationalists – They were looking for a sign. Believers—They put their faith in Him. Motive Check: Why follow Jesus? (John 6)

I. Jesus came down from heaven (vs.33) A. Jesus was sent by God the Father. B. Jesus left his home in heaven to come to us. C. Jesus is God...the only one who can save us.

II. Jesus is our most basic need (vs.27) A. Physical food (Bread) sustains physical life. B. Jesus gives and sustains our spiritual life. C. Without Jesus there can be no real life.

III. Jesus had to be broken (vs.51) A. His body was broken for us. B. He had to die in order to secure our future.

IV. Jesus can satisfy anyone forever (vs.35) A. Those who believe in Jesus will never hunger

or thirst again. B. There is no satisfaction in life without Jesus. C. It’s a done deal…It’s forever! “Oh taste and see that the Lord is good; blessed is

the man who puts his trust in him.” Ps. 34:8

19

Page 20: 2014 camp anderson camp book (2)

Jesus said, “I Am The Door” Therefore Jesus said again, “Very truly I tell you, I am the door for the sheep. Read John 10:7-13 1. Jesus said, “I am the door for the _____________”. 2. All who came before Jesus were _____________ and _______________. 3. The sheep did not __________ to those who came before 4. Who are the sheep in this scripture? ________________________________________. THREE RESULTS OF JESUS BEING “THE DOOR” I. Jesus is the only way. “He will be saved.” A. He forgives our sin (I John 1:7). B. He gives us eternal life (John 3:15). C. He takes us to Heaven (John 14:1-3) D. He makes us His children (John 1:12). II. Jesus gives us access to God’s benefits. “ He . . . will go in.” A. To enjoy the riches of Christ (Col. 1:27). B. To study and enjoy the scriptures (II Tim. 3:15). C. To pray and worship (John 15:7). D. To be blesses with all that we need in this life. (II Pet. 1:3)

20

Page 21: 2014 camp anderson camp book (2)

III. Jesus sends us “out” by His power and strength. “He will . . . go out and find pasture.” A. To live for Christ (Phil. 1:21) B. To witness for Christ (Acts 1:8). C. To serve others (Matt. 5:13-15). Following Jesus...A No-Brainer! Jesus is the open door. (Matt. 11:28-29) He is a personal friend who calls us by name. He is a patient friend who knocks on our heart’s door. He is a persistent friend who holds the door open. Jesus is the obvious door (John 10:1,8) Anyone who came before were thieves. His way brings joy and peace beyond our Explanation. He is historically and scientifically proven. Jesus is the only door (Psa. 118:20-24) No other way to get to heaven but by Him. His finished work on the cross makes it possible. It is by grace through faith in Him. A day will come when the door will be shut and walking through it will no longer be an option. (ROM. 1)

21

Page 22: 2014 camp anderson camp book (2)

Jesus said, “I AM the Good Shepherd” JOHN 10:11 I am the good shepherd: the good shep-herd gives his life for the sheep.

Read John 10:11-18

1. What does the Good Shepherd do for the sheep? _______________________________________

2. Why do sheep need a shepherd?

_______________________________________

3. What does the “hired hand” do when trouble comes? ____________________________________

We might think looking after sheep is a simple task but it isn’t. It is a highly specialized job. It takes a good Shepherd years to learn the trade – and it is often passed on from father to son. Why did Jesus make this comparison for us? I. Because we are like sheep (Isa. 53) A. Sheep follow the crowd and don’t think about the consequences. (vs. 6) B. Sheep are stubborn and foolish. In other words...Dumb. (vs. 7) C. Sheep are loyal to the shepherd and follow blindly to the death.

22

Page 23: 2014 camp anderson camp book (2)

II. Because sheep cannot survive without the Good Shepherd (Matt. 9:36)

A. The Shepherd knows His sheep & cares for them personally. (Psa.23:2) B. The Shepherd protects his sheep. (John10:11) C. The Shepherd wants only the best for his sheep. (John10:10) D. The Shepherd gives his life for the sheep (John10:15) III. Because the “Sheep Pin” is important to un-

derstand. A. The Sheep Pin had high walls with no roof or door. B. The Shepherd laid in the doorway and became the door for the sheep. C. No one entered or exited without the shepherd allowing it. D. The Sheep Pin provided safety for the sheep. E. Anyone who climbed over the wall was a thief and a robber. Application for your life: *We are dumb, unprotected and lost w/o Jesus! *Jesus is the only way to the abundant life! *We need the fellowship of the church (sheep pin) to sur-

vive in this life. *Jesus is the answer to all of life’s problems and chal-

lenges. *Jesus is our shepherd and substitute. Jesus is not a hired hand...He is the founder and CEO of

our lives.

Jesus said, “I Am the Light of the World” John 8:12 Again Jesus spoke to them, saying, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”

Read (John 8:1-15)

Each of the “I am” statements reveal something about the identity of Jesus. Everyone knew Jesus’ name. They knew who his earthly parents were, but people were confused as to his TRUE identity. WHO was this man? What did he stand for? Who was he representing? What does he do?

1. What was the woman who was brought to Jesus guilty of? _____________________________________________

2. What did Jesus bend down to do after the woman was accused? _____________________________________________

3. According to the Law of Moses, what should have been done to the woman? _____________________________________________

4. What did Jesus say to the Pharisees about the wom-an’s sin? _____________________________________________

5. What was the motive behind the Pharisees actions? _____________________________________________

Just before John 8:12, People were wrestling with the question of Jesus’ identity.

24

Page 25: 2014 camp anderson camp book (2)

In John 7:40-52, there are a series of questions that people are asking and statements they are making about Jesus. - This really is the Prophet of God. - This is the Christ prophesied about in scripture. - Is the Christ to come from Galilee? - Has not the Scripture said that the Christ comes from the offspring of David, and comes from Bethlehem, the village where David was?” What does light do? 1. It Eliminates Darkness (Gen.1:4) 2. It Gives Energy (Matt.5:16) 3. It Illuminates the Path (Prov.4:18) 4. It Reflects (Phil.2:15) 5. It Provides Life (plants) (John1:4) I. Jesus is the light of salvation (Luke 2:32) a. The light of the gospel illuminates our minds and hearts b. The truth brings us into the light II. Jesus is the light that dispels the darkness of sin (1 John 1) a. Darkness and light cannot co-exist b. Jesus brought the light (hope) into our darkness and despair III. Jesus is the light inside of us (Matt.15:16) a. We are to let the light of Jesus shine to others b. We can lead others into the light IV. Jesus is the light of heaven (Rev.21:7) a. There is no need for the Sun to light heaven b. His glory will be the focus of eternity

Jesus said, “I AM The Resurrection and the Life” John 11:25 Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in me, though he die, yet shall he live.”

Read John 11 The resurrection holds eternal significance not only for the believer but also for the unbeliever. The resurrec-tion tells us that we will live forever. This life is not the end. Those who believe in Christ will be resurrect-ed to live with Christ forever, while those who do not believe will exist forever in hell. The resurrection is the solid hope of the believer in that it gives them purpose for living this earthly life. The way we live matters! 1. Who poured oil on Jesus’ feet and dried them with

her hair? ______________________________________ 2. What did Jesus say the illness of Lazarus was for?

_______________________________________________ 3. How many days was Lazarus dead when Jesus ar-

rived? _________________________________________ 4. How did Jesus show His compassion for Mary and

Martha in vs. 35? _______________________________________________

5. What did Jesus ask Martha in vs. 26?

The Power of God to raise the dead: 1. The raising of the Sidonian widow’s son by Elijah (1 Kings 17:7-24) 2. The raising of the Shunammite woman’s son by Elisha (2 Kings 4:8-37) 3. The raising of Jairus’ daughter (Mk. 5:22-43) 4. The Raising of the son of the widow of Nain (Luke 7:11-17) The Raising of Lazarus (John 11:1-25) The facts about Jesus’ own resurrection: 1. Jesus died by Roman Crucifixion (Luke 23) -

Christ’s crucifixion and death is a recorded historical fact proven by many sources. He really died!

2. Jesus disciples witnessed his appearing after

he rose from the dead (Luke 24) - Jesus was seen by more than 120 people after his resurrection.

3. The conversion of the Apostle Paul (Acts 9) - The

radical change in Paul’s life as a persecutor of the church is well documented.

4. The conversion of Jesus’ own brother, James

(James 1) - Mark and John both say that none of Jesus’ brothers believed in him. James didn’t just become a Jesus follower, but a leader in the church at Jerusalem. He eventually died as a mar-tyr because of his faith.

Jesus also said, “I am the Life”. He was claiming to be the source of LIFE. There is no eternal life apart from Christ. He does more than give life; He is life, and there-fore death has no ultimate power over Him. Jesus confers this spiritual life on those who believe in Him, so that they share His triumph over death (1 John 5:11-12). Be-lievers in Jesus Christ will experience resurrection be-cause, having the life Jesus gives, it is impossible for death to defeat them. (1 Corinthians 15:53-57).

Jesus said, “I Am The Vine” John 15:1 “I am the true vine, and my Father is the vinedresser.

Read John 15

Jesus gave us a sharp analogy here to help us under-stand the importance of abiding in Him. Branches that do not draw from the vine will die and be cast into the fire.

1. Jesus is the Vine...who is the vinedresser? __________________________________________

2. What happens to the branch that does not bear fruit? __________________________________________

3. What happens to the branch that does bear fruit? __________________________________________

4. If Jesus is the Vine, what are we in this scripture? __________________________________________

5. Jesus said, “Without me you can do _________________________________________.”

Jesus tells us the source of a fruitful life:.

1. Life in the Vine (John 15:2) 2. Life by the Word (John 15:7) 3. Life through Prayer (John 15:7) 4. Life because of Love (John 15:9-10;13)

What does it mean to abide in Christ? First, abiding in Christ depends on His grace. Of course we are actively and personally united to Christ by faith (John 14:12). But faith itself is rooted in the activity of God. It is the Father who, as the divine Gardener, has grafted us into Christ. It is Christ, by His Word, who has cleansed us to fit us for union with Himself (15:3). All is sovereign, all is of grace. Second, union with Christ means being obedient to Him. Abiding involves our response to the teaching of Jesus: “If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you …” (John 15:7a). Paul echoes this idea in Colossians 3:16, where he writes, “Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly,” a statement closely related to Ephesians 5:18: “be filled with the Spirit.” Third, Christ underlines a further principle, “Abide in My love” (15:9), and states very clearly what this implies: the believer rests his or her life on the love of Christ (the love of the One who lays down His life for His friends, v. 13). Finally, we are called, as part of the abiding pro-cess, to submit to the pruning knife of God by which He cuts away all disloyalty and sometimes all that is unim-portant, in order that we might remain in Christ all the more wholeheartedly and bear much fruit. Because He prunes us...we bear fruit, we bear more fruit, and we bear much fruit! Abide in Him Abide in His Word Abide in His love

Jesus said, “I AM THE WAY THE TRUTH AND THE LIFE” John 14:6 Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. Read John 14:1-12 Exodus 3:6-14…God reveals His identity to Moses as, “I am who I am.” The Greek expression “egō eimi” means “I am” and means “self-identity in self-sufficiency.” God’s identity is not tied up in anyone or anything, and He does not need anyone or anything to sustain or complete Him. 1. Jesus said, “Let not your hearts be

_____________________”. 2. What did Jesus say was in His Father’s house?

____________________________ 3. Who said, “Lord, we don’t know where you are go-

ing”? ________________________ 4. Who’s authority did Jesus say he was speaking

with? ________________________ 5. Jesus said, “If you ask anything in my name, ____________________________________ I. Jesus is the only right way (Acts 4:12) A. There are only two ways in this life - Good and Evil 1. Two masters to serve - God or Money (Matt.

6:24) 30

Page 31: 2014 camp anderson camp book (2)

2. Two Gates to chose from - Wide or Narrow (Matt. 7:13) B. The narrow way is a life of sacrifice and struggle (Luke 9:23) II. Jesus is the whole truth and nothing but the

truth (John 1:1) A. Jesus is the Word of God (John 1:14) B. The Word of God is truth (John 17:17) C. The truth sets us free from sin (John 8:32) D. This truth brings us to heaven (Phil 4:3) III. Jesus is the abundant life (John 14:19) A. Jesus upholds all things by the word of His power (Heb. 1:3) B. Jesus laid down His life and took it up again (Rom.6:23) C. Jesus brought eternal life and freedom from the bondage of sin (John 10:10) After proclaiming that he was the way, the truth and the life; Jesus said, “No man can come to the Father but by me.”

John 14:6 says, “There is no other way” Acts 4:12 says, “There is no other name” I Cor. 3:11 says, “There is no other foundation” I Tim 2:5 says, “There is no other mediator possible”

We could add dozens of verses to this list. The God of the Bible is an utterly exclusive God. He has no competi-tors. He is the living and true God and there is no one like him in the universe. He will not share his glory with any created being. He alone deserves our worship and our praise. And when his Son declares, “No one comes to the Father except through me,” he means it.

Baptism At Camp Anderson

Students who become followers of Christ at Camp

Anderson will have the opportunity to follow the Lord in believer’s baptism. Students like the idea of being baptized in the river at the camp.

We want to be careful to honor parents and churches in the baptism process. We understand that friends and family want to witness the baptism of their loved one. Also, we want to honor the Pas-tor’s who have invested in these families over the years.

For any student who wants to be baptized at Camp

Anderson, we will ask for the parents permission and notify the pastor so that everyone who wants to can be involved. We would gladly allow the stu-dent’s pastor to come to the camp and perform the baptism if possible.

We will only baptize those students who have pa-

rental permission and the blessing of the home church and pastor.

We would be happy to video the baptism so that it

can be played for a church congregation or family members. If you would like to be baptized this week, please let your counselor know and they will provide you with a decision card to fill out.
