“For the Residents, by the Residents”

Merry Christmas December 2014

The Greatest Gift

The greatest gift at Christmas time is one we all may

give..

A friendly smile that helps to make, life easier to live.

A kindly thought, a helping hand, to show someone we

care, to let them know how much it means to us to have

them there.

The greatest gift at Christmas time, costs not a cent to

buy.

It’s being a good neighbor as days and months go by.

It’s offering a shoulder when someone needs a lift and so

I pray this Christmas Day…

That this may be your gift.

Every year at Christmas time I will see no snow,

instead my days are spent in the Florida sun’s

warm glow.

I have the best of Christmas,

the lights, the gifts, the bells, the weather that fits

right in with the Merry Christmas that I know.

I can walk and run in shorts & sandals play out

in the sun and that is what Christmas in Florida is all about

and much fun!.

Merry Christmas from your editor!

Santa May Be Late!

I’m writing this note to remind you, that inflation has taken away, the things that I

hold most essential.

My workshop, my reindeer, my sleigh and now I’m making my rounds on a

Donkey.

He’s old, he’s crippled, he’s slow………….So you’ll know if I don’t see you at

Christmas, that I’m out on my Behind in the snow up North or the sand here in

Florida!

Women’s Club

On Nov.5th, 48 members and quite a few men attended our

monthly meeting and after the salute to the flag all the reports

were read and approved.

Mary, of the Charity Committee, read a few letters of thanks

received from the many organizations that we helped this year.

The main subject was the Bazaar which is our first fundraiser of

the season. We are on target with the preparations and everyone

knows what to do. This is a very important function and this Is

the backbone of our organization. We will have a raffle of

$100.00, tickets for a quilt and other items, beautiful baskets

for raffle and a bake sale (please don't forget to bake for us

and bring your bake goods at 7:00 Am.) At 10:00 am we will sell

Sloppy Joes with chips and a drink for $3.00. Hope to see you

there

Mary gave some empty bags to the members to fill for our

Christmas donations of food for the needy with a list attached

of suggestions of food items. The bags should be brought back to

Mary between December 1st and not later than December 15 so that

Mary can deliver these bags to Daystar for x-mas.

On February 15 at 5:00 pm we will have our 2nd fundraiser for

Charity. We will have Soup and Crusty bread and a dessert

followed by a MEN'S UNIQUE FASHION SHOW / $7.00/ticket. The

tickets will be on sale in January. We are looking for more

“male” models. If interested, call Peggy Elkins.

4 bags of Avon products were given by Tanya and raffled. Thank

you Tanya. We had a very interesting speaker, Debra L Dandar

an Attorney of Tampa Bay Elder Law Center. She spoke for half

an hour and she was so interesting that you could not hear a pin

drop. Many people asked questions which was very interesting.

Then we had a light lunch to the pleasure of everyone.

Next month on Dec 3rd we are going at the Golden Corral at 11Am

for our X-Mas party. This lunch is being paid for by The

Women's Club for the year 2014 for paid-up members only to thank

all for their generous actions during the year.

see you around.

Southfork Ambulance Program

Membership and General Meeting

Dec 5, 2014 @ 10am, Clubhouse

The ambulance program is open and available to all residents of Southfork. The purpose is to

aid our resident members in paying the “Medical and Emergency” ambulance fees charged by

the Pasco County Rescue Squad (911) calls, resulting in transporting to any area hospital. The

yearly dues are $15 per person. The program pays $150.00 to those who are transported to a

hospital, after we are presented with a bill from Pasco County Rescue Squad. Last year it was

voted that we would include all of Pasco County on a trial one year period.

We only have one general meeting per year which includes the sign-up for the following year.

Coverage time period is from January 1st thru December 31st. If needed, we may have fund

raising activities thru the year.

We invite all our new residents to attend the upcoming general meeting either to join or just

to get general information concerning the program.

Awesome Christmas Story

'Twas the night before Christmas & out on the ranch

The pond was froze over & so was the branch.

The snow was piled up belly-deep to a mule.

The kids were all home on vacation from school,

And happier young folks you never did see-

Just all sprawled around a-watchin' TV.

Then suddenly, some time around 8 o'clock,

There came a surprise that gave them a shock!

The power went off, the TV went dead!

When Grandpa came in from out in the shed

With an armload of wood, the house was all dark.

"Just what I expected," they heard him remark.

"Them power line wires must be down from the snow.

Seems sorter like times on the ranch long ago."

"I'll hunt up some candles," said Mom. "With their light,

And the fireplace, I reckon we'll make out all right."

The teen-agers all seemed enveloped in gloom.

Then Grandpa came back from a trip to his room,

Uncased his old fiddle & started to play

That old Christmas song about bells on a sleigh.

Mom started to sing, & 1st thing they knew

Both Pop & the kids were all singing it, too.

They sang Christmas carols, they sang "Holy Night,"

Their eyes all a-shine in the ruddy firelight.

They played some charades Mom recalled from her youth,

And Pop read a passage from God's Book of Truth.

They stayed up till midnight-and, would you believe,

The youngsters agreed 'twas a fine Christmas Eve.

Grandpa rose early, some time before dawn;

And when the kids wakened, the power was on..

"The power company sure got the line repaired quick,"

Said Grandpa - & no one suspected his trick.

Last night, for the sake of some old-fashioned fun,

He had pulled the main switch - the old Son-of-a-Gun!

Game and Meeting Requests

This is just a friendly reminder to all for the starting times of all events.

If If an event starts at (ex) 5pm……. Please try to arrive at

least 15 minutes early.

It makes it kind of hard when a count must be taken and then find out there are 1 or 2 more

to add because they walked in late. If you do not get to play a game because of being late,

please do not get upset. So please, look at the activity sheet to find out the correct time the

game or event starts and if you know you are going to be late, please let someone know.

This also goes for signing up on the bulletin board for any activity that we must know in

advance of how many people to plan for. Again if you sign up and don’t plan on coming,

please let the organizer of the event know and that also goes for those who do not sign up,

but show up……there may not be enough food.

Thanks to all,

Phyllis

Hanukkah Begins at Sun down Dec 16thh

At last! At last! Hanukkah is here! The whole house is bursting with holiday cheer. Pancakes

are sizzling as hard as they can, Browning delectably crisp in the pan. The Dreidels can

scarcely wait to be spun; Presents are hidden for Hanukkah fun. And there, on the table,

polished and bright, the shining menorah gleams through the night. Like the oil lamp in

ancient history, that burned on and on miraculously! And each flaming candle proclaims the

great story of the Maccabean heroes, their deeds and their glory.
