We pick you up from your hotel for our short shuttle to Poroy train station. The trainride covers 104 kilometers/64.6 miles (4 hours), and then we set out on our trek toWiñaywayna after that, we walk to Inti Punku ("Sun Gate"), where we can take in apanoramic view of Machupicchu and finally arrive to Aguas Calientes town, where wespend the night. We take one of the first buses from Aguas Calientes to Machupicchu. We have a tour of Machupicchu city. There is also anoptional climb to the top of Huaynapicchu Mountain – the pyramid-shaped peak that overlooks Machupicchu. Later you willhave free time to visit the archaeological complex. Buffet Lunch at the Machu Picchu Sanctuary Lodge beside the ruins. Finallywe take the train to return to Cusco, where we expected our transport to get to the hotel in Cusco. (B/L)Hotel in Cusco

In the afternoon we start to explore the city of Cusco on a tour, in which the guidewill explain the history and significance of our Inca culture and vast changes that tookplace with the Spanish Conquest. You will visit the main plaza, the Cathedral, and theTemple of the Sun or Koricancha. We then visit the ruins on the outskirts of the city,stopping at the Inca ritual site of Quenqo, the water temple of Tambomachay, thecustoms house of Puca Pucara and the impressive Fortress of Saqsaywaman, builtstrategically on the hill above city of Cusco. It's famous for its enormous stone blocks,assembled with incredible precision to form the imposing external walls of thecomplex. Some of the stones stand 9 meters tall and weigh more than 350 tons. Transfer Airport to Rainforest Expeditions’ Puerto Maldonado Headquarters: Uponarrival from Lima or Cusco, you will be welcomed at the airport and take a 10-minutedrive to Rainforest Expedition’s Puerto Maldonado headquarters. While enjoyingyour first taste of the forest in Rainforest Expedition’s gardens, you will be asked topack only the necessary gear for your next few days, and leave the rest in a safedeposit. Transfer Boat - Tambopata River Port to Posada Amazonas: The forty five minute boat ride from the Tambopata Port toPosada Amazonas will take you into the Community’s Primary Forest Private Reserve. Orientation. Upon arrival, the lodgemanager will welcome you and brief you with important navigation and security tips.

Canopy tower: A twenty minute walk from Posada Amazonas leads to the 30 meter scaffolding canopy tower. A bannisteredstaircase running through the middle provides safe access to the platforms above. From atop you obtain spectacular views ofthe vast expanses of standing forest cut by the Tambopata River winding through the middle. Now and then toucans, parrots ormacaws are seen flying against the horizon, or mixed species canopy flocks land in the treetop next to you. (D)Ecotourism Lecture. A daily presentation on the Infierno Ecotourism project is available every night from a staff member.Overnight at Posada Amazonas

Breakfast. (B)Tres Chimbadas Oxbow Lake: Tres Chimbadas is thirty minutes by boat and forty fiveminutes hiking from Posada Amazonas. Once there you will paddle around the lake ina catamaran, searching for the resident family of nine giant river otters (seen by 60%of our lake visitors) and other lakeside wildlife such as caiman, hoatzin and hornedscreamers.Parrot clay lick: This clay lick is only a twenty minute walk from Posada Amazonas.From a blind located about twenty meters away you will see dozens of parrots andparakeets descend on most clear mornings to ingest the clay on a river bank. Speciessuch as Mealy and Yellow- headed Amazon, Blue-headed Parrot and Dusky headedParakeet descend at this clay lick. The clay lick is active at dawn, during the latemornings and mid-afternoons. (A)Ethno botanical Tour: A twenty minute boat drive downriver leads you to a traildesigned by the staff of the Centro Ñape. The Centro Ñape is a communalorganization that produces medicines out of forest plants and administers them topatients who choose their little clinic. They have produced a trail which explains thedifferent medicinal (and other) uses of selected plants. (D)Night walk: You will have the option of hiking out at night, when most of themammals are active but rarely seen. 09:00 am: You are picked up at your hotel to begin your tour in Lima's historic citycenter.Visit the Main Square and the Cathedral, where Conquistador Francisco Pizarro isentombed. Tour the Convent and Church of San Francisco, which hold the oldestcollection of colonial art in the Americas, with an exquisitely carved chorus, alibrary of ancient manuscripts, and the Sacristy with paintings by Zurbarán andRivera. The grand courtyard of the main cloister is decorated floor-to-ceiling inblue and white Sevillian tiles, depicting scenes from the bible that dates back tothe 16th Century. Moroccan-style arches lead us to the Catacombs, a subterraneancrypt from the colonial period, where the bones of 25 thousand colonial-era Limaresidents are entombed.

The panoramic tour continues through the most traditional residential areas of the city: San Isidro, Huaca Pucllana, a pre-Incaadobe pyramid in the heart of the seaside district of Miraflores, the Central Park of Miraflores and down to the cliff-sideshopping complex of Larcomar, a symbol of modern Lima.

We continue the visit to the Larco Museum, founded in 1926. Housed in a uniquecolonial residence dating back to the XVII century, built on top of a VIII centurypyramid, this fabulous museum includes the exquisite Collection of Peruvian Goldand Silver from the olden days, and the Pre-Hispanic Erotic Art Salon. Its pieces havetoured major world museums. Larco is among only a few museums around the worldopening their vaults to the public, with over 45,000 archaeological pieces that havebeen classified by renowned specialists and scholars. Most importantly, the LarcoMuseum offers a clear and demonstrative explanation why Peru has recently beenrecognized as the world's Sixth Cradle of Civilization, contemporaneous with Egypt,Mesopotamia, India, Mexico and China.
