ORGANIZATION: Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA) and Phoenix CentreWHERE THE FUNDING IS GOING: Closing the gap on addiction and homelessness
United Way is partnering with the RIH Foundation to help CLOSE THE GAP ON HOMELESSNESS AND ADDICTION. This pilot project will provide funding for staff to support adults in recovery who will occupy the 11 single room occupancy units above the Emerald Centre Co-Ed Emergency Shelter, operated by CMHA. These supportive recovery units will be for vulnerable clients leaving the Phoenix Centre’s in-patient detox and are continuing an outpatient treatment plan.
ORGANIZATION: Kamloops Adapted Sports AssociationWHERE THE FUNDING IS GOING: Capital grant for purchase of wheelchairs
“ Currently in Kamloops there is almost no opportunity for adapted sport. The one program that does exist (wheelchair basketball) has no capacity for growth, as there are no extra sport chairs for new-comers to use. The truth of the matter is that to be able to compete in adapted sport, a person with a physical disability would have to look outside of Kamloops.”
