By 2017, the 2nd Asia Pacific Silver Economy Business Opportunities Report 2013, published by Ageing Asia Pte Ltd, projects that Hong Kong SAR will be home to 1.68 million older adults age over 60, representing a market potential of US$29 Billion in household savings, an increase of 68% from 2012. Hong Kong SAR has a population of over 7 million, with 1.4 million or 19% of the population aged over 60 as of 2012. GDP per capita is US$50,700. Life expectancy at birth is 83 years. By 2050, 37% of the population or over 8.8 million will be aged over 60, with 20% comprising of those aged over 80. The spending power of adults over 60 is projected at US$37,300 per capita, indicating the great business potential of the senior market in Hong Kong.
