Le Hong Phong High School for the Gifted ( established in 1927,formerly known as the prestigious Petrus Ky High School ) is a highly selec-tive school in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. It is known as one of the topschools in the whole country for its outstanding teaching quality and stu-dents leadership and pioneering spirit. Throughout the schools long history,
Le Hong Phong has produced many generations of eminent leaders, teach-ers, writers, revolutionaries, economists, scientists and artists, especially:
Truong Tan Sangthe current President of Vietnam.Nguyen Minh Trietthe former President of Vietnam from 2006 to
2011.
Huynh Tan Phata South Vietnamese politician and revolutionary.
Tran Van Ona national hero in the Vietnam War.
Nguyen Thai Binha national hero in the Vietnam War.
In order to win a place at Le Hong Phong High School for the Gifted,students must be categorized Excellent in their middle school years and
must score extremely high on the National High School Entrance Examina-tion (including tests in Mathematics, Vietnamese Literature, English and onespecialized subject). Le Hong Phongs passing grades are the highest among
all high schools in Southern Vietnam. The acceptance rates in the past threeyears are:
Class of 2013: 21,36%.
Class of 2014: 20.14%.
Class of 2015: 13.3%.
The current school enrollment is 2,022 students in three gradesfrom grade 10 to grade 12. Vietnamese is the language of instruction andall students are required to learn English, Chinese, or French as a secondlanguage.
Besides, Le Hong Phong has given birth to the prestigious 30th ofApril Olympiad for grade 10 and 11. Since 1995, Le Hong Phong has alsobeen selected as the testing center for the Royal Australian Chemical Insti-tutes Australian National Chemistry Quiz.

Depending on their majors, students are grouped into three advanced departments whose program focuses on threeof the 13 mandatory subjects:Cohort A: Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry.Cohort B: Mathematics, Chemistry, and Biology.Cohort D: Mathematics, Vietnamese Literature, and English.
Our system uses the ten-point scale and we do not rank our students. However, there are 3 main titles used toevaluate students:
The Excellent Title: - The qualified scores are at least 6.5 in all subjects and at least 8.0 in either Math or Literature.
- The average score must be at least 8.0.
The Good Title: - The qualified scores are at least 5.0 in all subjects and at least 6.5 in either Math or Literature.
- The average score must be at least 6.5.
The Average Title: - The qualified scores are at least 3.5 in all subjects and at least 5.0 in either Math or Literature.
- The average score must be at least 5.0.
Note: Average GPA = (Subject's GPAs) / (Number of subjects).
In brief, we believe that all subjects are important in developing well-rounded students.
Le Hong Phong High School has been famous for offering the most rigorous courses in the country. Our curriculum iscomprised of the mandatory curriculum and major classes. Every enrolled student is required to complete the manda-tory curriculum, while only major students are required to complete additional hours within their major field. The man-datory curriculum includes courses in the following subjects (see the Addendum for details about course descriptions):

Le Hong Phong High School ranks second nationally in the 2013 Vietnam University Admission Ranking.

100% of our students pass the high school graduation exam administered by the Ministry of Education and Training.
More than 92% of graduates successfully complete the University Entrance Exam to enroll in distinguished universi-ties in Vietnam including some of the most prestigious ones.
National Merits:
In 2001, the school was awarded the 2nd Level Labor Medal by the President of Vietnam.
In 2007, the school was awarded the 1st Level Labor Medal by the President of Vietnam.International Awards 2012 2013 :
Silver Medal in Physics in the Asia - Pacific Robot Contest.
First Prize in the Vietnam Science and Engineering Fair (VSEF) held in Hanoi (Vietnam) and Fourth Prize in the Inter-national Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF) held in Arizona (USA).

Besides rigorous academic programs, we offer many opportunities for our students to participate in many extra-curricular activities, including sports, learning excursions, etc. which are organized almost weekly by an effective sys-tem of clubs. Some of these clubs include Life Skills Club, Community Service Club, Poetry Writing Club, Creative Sci-ence Club, Harmonica Club, Sao La Environmental Conservation Club, English Club, Musical Performance Club, ActingClub, and Radio Broadcasting Club. Many students have won short exchange scholarships to programs in South Africa,Thailand, Indonesia, Japan, Singapore, etc.
Throughout the school year, students and teachers collaborate to bring about annual school-wide events includingTeam Building Camp (September), Teachers Day Gala (singing & dancing competition, November), Festival of Tradi-
tions (sport activities and folk games, January), Festival Le Hong Phong (open-air concert and fashion show, January),Festival of Folk Traditions (booths of traditional cuisines, folk games, or handmade souvenirs, February), and Humani-ties Festival (booths of free food and games for children at the Oncology Hospital, HCMC, March), Graduating SeniorFarewell Day (May).
