Useful Information

Welcome to the 2012 KSGB KNN Knabstrupper Grading. Our 2012 programme includes youngstock,

stallion and mare gradings, as well as performance assessments. We wish everybody the best of luck

and, most importantly, a very good day.

Contact Persons

Heidi Wilkin, Trinity House Farm, Holmpton, Withernsea, East Yorkshire, HU19

Lesley Thomas, Little Tresaison Farm, Penpergwm, Abergavenny,

Stabling

Please ensure that everything is kept neat and tidy in front of your

stables.

Papers/Passports

Please bring all original papers/passport with your horse to the

grading. Final grading stickers can be printed at the end of the day and results

added to your horse’s passport.

Bridles and

Numbers

All animals must wear bridle numbers and these will be handed out the

morning of the grading. Please be especially aware that all reins and lead

ropes which need to be unclipped have to be of a quick release design.

Times

All times mentioned in the programme are approximate. Therefore

please keep abreast of the timetable on the day so you are ready to

present your horse when required to keep proceedings running

smoothly.

The grading results will be available one hour after the evaluation

has finished.

In the back of this programme you will find the presentation rules which you are encouraged to read.

All participants in the Knabstrupper Grading 2012 agree that they participate at their own risk.

It is strongly recommended that participants have their own 3rd party insurance, that hard hats are

worn whilst handling stallions, and body protectors worn whilst riding.

Knabstrupperforeningen for Danmark or the organisers cannot be held liable for any kind of loss, injury

or damage, whether direct or indirect, consequential or incidental, arising from participation in the

Knabstrupper Grading 2012.

Informative Guidelines for Presentation at Events Organised by Knabstrupperforeningen for Danmark

To achieve a consistent presentation and therefore evaluation from venue to venue and from year to

year, the following guidelines for participants and judges have been collated. As the headline indicates

this should be understood as a guideline since specific circumstances and facilities may necessitate

small adjustments. The judges’ opinion will always take priority and be final. Basic in hand showing

rules are not included in these guidelines.

General Rules

Only healthy and disease free animals may be brought forward.

It is the handler’s responsibility to keep their animal(s) under control at all times for the safety of all

concerned. The handler/owner is liable for any damages it may cause.

Dress Code: The handler should wear discrete white clothing, black trousers may be worn.

Grooming: The horse should be shown clean and well groomed

Helping aids: It is permitted to carry a whip, but it is not allowed to tie plastic bags or similar to it

Bridles: Foals are not permitted to be shown in bits, but stallions must be shown bitted. All reins and

lead ropes that are required to be taken off to show the animal loose must be of a quick release

nature, so that clipping and unclipping can occur quickly and smoothly. This is easily achieved either

by using a lead and Newmarket chain, or by attaching dog clips or lead rein clips to the ends of the

reins. Bridle numbers must be worn so that they are clearly visible.

Judging categories

In the various assessment categories the following elements are included and are elaborated under the

section “Presentation and Facilities”

Presentation and facilities

Measuring and description control:

Facilities: Hard and even surface in quiet surroundings, typically in the stable block

Presentation: The horses are brought forward in catalogue order

Vetting:

Facilities: Similar to those used for presentation on hard surface. Blood samples and re-evaluation of

any possible problems will take place in the stables in order to have the most quiet surroundings

Presentation: In hand, according to the vet’s instructions

Hard surface:

Facilities: Area with smooth, even and hard surface, for example asphalt about 30m – 40m long

Presentation: Trot to the judges and halt until asked to walk on. Walk away from the judges about

halfway down the track (should be marked). Turn right and walk back towards the judges. Halt again in

front of the judges. Exit in trot when asked by the judges.

Page 20: 2012 UK Grading Programme - Knab

Whole class/progeny group in the arena together:

Arena: around 20m x 40m Presentation: Whole group in the arena in catalogue order in walk on the

right track with at least one horses’ length between each one. Foals should be on the right hand side of

the mare and led by a handler. When asked by the judge the whole group except the first catalogue

number leaves the arena. All other horses must vacate the arena completely even when the arena has

been shortened leaving space on the perimeters.

Individual Evaluation:

Arena: around 20m x 40m. Presentation: Enter in trot in hand tracking to the right and complete

approx. 1.5 circuits (depending upon where the door is located) but only 0.5 circuit for foals. Halt in

presentation outline in front of the judges when passing for the second time (first time for foals). When

asked by the judges the horse is brought to the centre of the arena in walk and let loose. When asked

the horse is caught and again halted in front of the judges. On the way out the horse is shown in trot

on the right track, but only leaves the arena when the next horse has entered.

Line-up, Marks/Description & Prize Giving:

Arena: around 20m x 40m. Presentation: After the individual evaluation the whole group enters the

arena again in catalogue order on the right track and with at least one horse’s length between each

one. Foals must be on the right hand side of the mare and be led by a handler. On the judges

instructions the group is reordered but only in walk. When the new order is complete the group is lined

up in the middle of the arena from right to left for marks/description and prize giving. The arena is

vacated after a circuit at a walk on the right track, apart from the reserve/champion now showing a lap

of honour in trot.

Loose Jumping:

Arena: 20m x 40m. Presentation: A visible corridor is built on the long side adjacent to the jumps

either with poles or wide plastic strips. The jumping takes place on the left track and if possible in such

a way the horses are jumping towards the entrance. Three jumping elements are built. The first

element is an upright, e.g. a cross pole. The second an oxer (~4 poles). The third is a bigger oxer (~5-

6 poles). A pole is placed at the base of each jump. The distances and heights are adjusted according

to the horses size and ability and at the judges discretion.
