SincetakingoveratSimpsonin2006,Dave Cleveland has transformed the program into one of the most respected in the region and the country. Cleveland has produced national-championship caliber athletes onaregularbasis,restoringSimpson’sproudtrackandfieldtradition.

The2012seasonmarksCleveland’sseventhatthehelm.In2008,heearned Iowa Conference Indoor Women’sCoachoftheYearhonorsandin2010heledthewomen’steamtop-20finishesatindoorandoutdoornationals,finishingtheoutdoorseasonrankedNo.9inthenationbytheUSTFCCCA.Cleveland’sstudent-athletes perform in the classroom as

wellandareaperennialfixtureintheUSTFCCCAAll-AcademicTeam.

BeforecomingtoSimpson,Clevelandwasafour-timeconferencecoachoftheyearastheboys’headcoachatCedarFallsHighSchoolandwonfourconferencechampionshipsinwomen’strackatWebsterCity.

ClevelandgraduatedfromtheUniversityofNorthernIowain1990.Asacollegiateathlete,hewasathree-timeconferencehighjumpchampion.Heearnedamaster’sdegreefromViterboin2001andaddedaMaster’sofScienceinEducationalLeadershipfromDrakein2009.DaveandhiswifeTerra,sonMax,anddaughtersLangleyandBrinleyresideinIndianola.

Newin2011,SimpsonreplacedthetrackandturfinsideBillBuxtonStadium to provide student-athletes the opportunity to compete on thenation’sfinestplayingsurfaces.InstalledonthefieldwasaFieldTurfRevolutionplayingsurface,thefirstofitskindtoappearintheMidwest.Thetrackisafull-pour,10-millimetertrackfromBeynon,thesamesurfacefoundattheUniversityofIowa.

Simpson’smainindoorfacilities,theCarseFitnessCenterandtheCowlesCenter,houseavarietyofdifferentamenitiesfortraining,strengthandconditioningandrecreation.Simpson’sindoorfacilitiesincludea5,000square-footweightroom,acompetitionfieldhouseforbasketballandvolleyball,racquetballcourts,awrestlingroom,a25-meterswimmingpool,lockerroomsandindoorbattingcages.

OtheroutdoorvenuesincludeDickandNancyBuxtonMemorialTennisCourts,McBrideBaseballFieldandtheSimpsonSoftballComplex.Simpson’sgolfteamspracticeandcompeteattheIndianolaCountryClub.

KENt campus cENtER Inthefallof2010,Simpson’sboardoftrusteesvotedunanimouslytoconstructanew$14millionstudentcenter.TheKentCampusCenterwillhouseacoffeeshop,alternativeeatingoptions,spaceforconcerts,banquets,meetingsandadditionalofficespaceforcampusdepartments,includingtheCenterforVocationandIntegrativeLearning.ConstructionissettobegininSummer2011withanexpectedcompletiondateofFall2012.

Simpson’sstrengthandconditioningprogramwillbeanimportantelementinyourathleticexperienceatthecollege.Simpson’scertifiedstrengthandconditioningstaffwillworkwithyoutobuildafitnessplanthat can reduce the risk of injury and improve your athletic performance.

TheathletictrainingstaffatSimpsonrealizesthatinordertohaveasuccessfulseason,thetoppriorityforparentsandcoachesistheathlete’shealth.Thefourcertifiedathletictrainersonstaffandtheir30studentsprovidequalityhealthcaretoover500athletes.Tohelpkeepcostsdown,theyevaluate,treat,andrehabilitateallathletesoncampus.Inaddition,two team physicians routinely visit the training room to evaluate athletes and determine the need for further testing and care.

Simpson is one of only two Division III schools in Iowa to participate in theNCAACHAMPS/LifeSkillsprogram.
