DIII BASEBALL COMMITTEE The NJCAA Division III Baseball Committee
is responsible for setting policies and procedures for the
approval by the NJCAA Board of Directors. This committee is
made up of NJCAA Region Directors, Assistant Region Directors
and the NJCAA Baseball Coaches Association President.
For the 2012 season, the NJCAA will release six
Division III baseball rankings on a bi-weekly basis at
the beginning of the season and then weekly the
last three weeks of the season based on the
following schedule: March 14, March 28, April 11,
April 25, May 9 and May 16. The final poll date is
determined by the start of the DIII World Series.
Each NJCAA Region Director with Division III
baseball will report the top teams in their respective
region to NJCAA Headquarters each Monday, which
is then compiled into a weekly region report. This
report is then sent out to the NJCAA Division III
voting panel, which consists of the eight District
Directors. Each District Director then compiles a Top
10 based on this report. (Rank order submitted by
each region is honored.) In order to be eligible for
ranking, a team first must have their schedule/
results and stats up to date on the NJCAA website.
They must also then be submitted by their region
director to the national office for poll consideration.
NJCAA Headquarters will compile all votes and
release the rankings to the public on each poll date
online at www.njcaa.org.

David Freese - World Series MVP
Former-St. Louis CC Player David Freese
Wins World Series MVP
St. Louis Cardinals’ third baseman David Freese was largely an unknown player entering the 2011 season. Little did the Cardinal fan base know that in October he would be raising the World Series MVP trophy. Following his heroics in the Fall Classic, Freese quickly became a household name that will be remembered in baseball lore for decades to come. Freese’s journey to the top of the baseball world began at St. Louis Communi-ty College - Meramec (Mo.). After suffering from a broken wrist during his freshman season, Freese had his coming-out party in 2004. With drastic improvements to his swing, Freese earned himself first-team spots on the All-Region, All-District and All-American teams. Following his commendable season at Meramec, Freese went on to finish his collegiate career at South Alabama where he was named Sun Belt Conference Player of the Year. Once Freese advanced to professional baseball, his stock began to rise as a up-and-coming prospect. The Cardinals thought so much of his abilities that they traded star outfielder Jim Edmonds for him prior to the 2009 season. Unfortunately, Freese suffered injury after injury and didn’t meet his high expectations until the 2011 season. During the playoffs, Freese boasted a .397 batting average and tied playoff records with 21 RBI’s, 50 total bases and 25 hits. Freese showcased his flare for the dramatic in Game 6 of the World Series. With the Rangers one strike away from becoming champions, Freese hit a two-run triple to tie the game and force extra innings. In the bottom of the 10th, Freese forced Game 7 with a walk-off home run. The game has largely been acclaimed as one of the greatest in the history of the World Series. Freese went on to bat in two runs in Game 7, as the Cardinals claimed their 11th World Series title in club history.

After falling in its first game of the 2011 NJCAA Division III World
Series, Eastfield College (Texas) climbed through the loser's brack-
et and defeated defending champion Gloucester County College
(N.J.) on back-to-back nights to claim the 2011 national champi-

the DIII World Series to lose its first contest and still win the na-
tional title. The Harvester baseball program has now won three
Division IIII national championships (2001, 2006, 2011).

North Arkansas’ Clark and Manchester’s Holland Named 2011 ABCA and Easton Players of the Year
The American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA), in conjunction with the NJCAA, selected Lester Clark (North Arkansas College) and Kyle Holland (Manchester CC, Conn.) as the 2011 Division III Players of the Year. Clark was named ABCA Player of the Year, while Holland was chosen as the Easton Defensive Player of the Year.
ABCA Division III Player of the Year Lester Clark (C - North Arkansas College)
Lester Clark, a freshman from Fayetteville, Ark., snatched up the proverbial Triple Crown in NJCAA Division III baseball and led the Pioneers to a 39-11 mark this season. The 6’2” catcher led the division with a .527 batting average, 74 runs batted in, and 13 homers. Along his journey of going 77-for-146 at the plate, Clark collected 51 runs, 24 doubles, one triple, and 22 walks in 42 games. A .900 stolen base percentage also allowed Clark to secure nine stolen bases.
With incredible offensive talent and an on-base percentage of .580, it is not surprising why Lester Clark was the Division III ABCA Player of the Year.
Easton Division III Defensive Player of the Year Kyle Holland (C - Manchester Community College, Conn.)
Kyle Holland, a freshman from Montville, Conn., helped defend his Cougars team by boasting a perfect 1.00 fielding percentage in 43 games this season. The 5’10” catcher collected 226 putouts and 29 assists without a single error recorded. Holland managed to throw out 17 of 28 (.607) base runners that attempted to steal and only surrendered three passed balls. He contributed to two double-plays this season as well.
Offensively, Kyle proved to be a serious threat, going 44-for-141 at the plate for a .312 average. He posted 39 runs, 18 RBI’s, and 22 stolen bases. Seven of his hits this year went for extra bases.
Holland was also named to the 2011 NJCAA DIII Rawlings Gold Glove® Team.

The Rawlings Gold Glove Award® is the benchmark of
excellence and performance on the diamond in Major
League Baseball. However, in 2007 the award began to
also symbolize the best of the best at the collegiate and
high school levels. For the fourth consecutive year,
college and high school players flashing serious leather
were awarded Rawlings Gold Glove Awards as Rawlings
celebrates its 53rd year of the Rawlings Gold Glove
Award®. In partnership with the American Baseball
Coaches Association (ABCA), Rawlings presented the first-
ever Rawlings Gold Glove Awards in 2007 to players in
NCAA Divisions I, II, and III; NAIA; NJCAA Divisions I, II, and
III; and High School.
