Dunn Outdoor Instructor Job Announcement Fall 2012 Program Overview: The Dunn School is a private boar ding and day school, located 30 miles north of Santa Barbara in southern California. In addition to completing college preparatory classes, students are expected to complete an outdoor education curriculum that focuses on leadership, community, environmental respect, and transference of experience to life skills. The 6th through 12th grade curriculum is designed to build the students’ self esteem, confidence, environmental awareness, and most of all teach them how to deal with all k inds of people and their personalities. Many of our trips are extended multi-day wilderness outings that include activities such as backpacking, peak ascents, rock climbing, cave exploration, solos, and sea kayaking. Trips are conducted i n various central and southern California locations. Description: Dunn School is currently hiring instructors f or one fall trip. We are looking for dynamic hard working individuals who seek to b uild great relationships with students and school faculty . The Dunn Outdoor Education program is under new leadership and we are looking for outdoor educators with great ideas to help our program evolve. At Dunn, the instructor plays a pivotal role in linking the wilderness and the classroom. Each instructor will be paired with one or two faculty members and a group of 10 to 12 students. Responsibilities: Trips run f rom 4 to 9 days a nd many involve a wilderness component. Instructors will be responsible for all aspects of each trip. During prep days you will plan routes, check gear, f amiliarize yourself with Dunn Outdoor Ed curriculum, pack food, and begin to build a relationship with your faculty counterpart. During course days, the instructor is responsible for all aspects of the trip. Responsibilities include risk management, student health and well being, administration of first aid, curriculum delivery , assisting with t op-rope rock climbing, daily debrief and many more. Once each trip returns to campus, students will complete the lion’s share of cleaning under instructor and faculty supervision. Instructors are responsible for making or marking repairs, final clean up and assessment of program needs. We’re very excited for our fall program this year and would love to see you in beautiful sunny Southern California! Dates and programs: Freshman Class 3 instructors needed September 16 th or 17 th - September 22 nd , includes 3 or 3.5 in town days Base camp – Day hike, rock climbing, sea kayaking, class bonding
