Displays remain on view for six to ten weeks and rotate up to seven times per year. Main gallery exhibitions showcase traditional fine art, craft and design that may be historical or contemporary while the artlab provides a venue for living artists questioning boundaries of medium and form. Residing within a culturally rich community, it is the aim of the KAC to offer quality exhibitions that inspire local audiences and visitors alike. Sculpture e Krasl Art Center collects contemporary sculpture. Sculpture supports the center’s creative and unique arts environment and complements public memorials on view within the community. Unlike traditional art museums, the KAC’s sculpture collection is largely viewed outdoors, on art center grounds, along the lake and riverfronts and throughout the region. is offers the opportunity to share artworks beyond our museum walls, to provide art at every hour of the day, every day of the year, in a multitude of settings. The Krasl Art Center Members’ Show: In 3DJanuary 27 - February 26, 2012 Opening Reception: Friday, January 27, 5:30 - 7:30 pmThe Krasl Art Center has a diverse and talented body of members, many of whom are artists working in a variety of mediums. This year, in honor of the KAC’s sculpture collection and an entire year of exhibitions dedicated to three-dimensional forms, the Krasl Art Center Members’ Show will display artworks that emphasize the 3D.

Form: Essence & Simplicity in Product DesignA 30 Year Retrospective of Bret Bortner Design, Ltd.March 2 - April 29, 2012 Opening Reception: Friday, March 2, 5:30 - 7:30 pmFollow the evolution of this design company and production pottery from its inception in a garage in Dundee, Illinois, through its peak years employing twenty four people and shipping one million dollars of product each year to Crate & Barrel, to its design work for BIA Cordon Bleu and eventual relocation to State Street in St. Joseph, Michigan. This exhibition offers a fascinating look into the world of product design, mass production, and marketing.

2012 Biennial Sculpture InvitationalMay 11 - July 22, 2012 Opening Reception: Friday, May 11, 5:30 - 8:30 pm The Krasl Art Center 9th Biennial Sculpture Invitational showcases 20 outdoor sculptures by national and regional artists. Sites include Krasl Art Center grounds, city parks and collaborative locations with the New Territory Arts Association in Benton Harbor and the Box Factory for the Arts in St. Joseph. An indoor exhibition of preliminary materials reveals the artists’ processes for these works through drawings, photographs and sculptural maquettes.

Energy Reboot: The Art of Indira JohnsonJuly 27 - September 2, 2012 Opening Reception: Friday, July 27, 5:30 - 7:30 pm Indira Johnson mixes discarded objects with traditional sculptural practice. Her use of materials allows traces of former identities to remain amid transformed states; objects relay renewed energy and sensibility, functioning physically as well as spiritually and reinforcing the concept that everyday life is sacred. Artworks may be figurative, conceptual, or experiential. Exhibition Sponsor: Chemical Bank

Sculpture Here: The Krasl Art Center Permanent CollectionSeptember 21 - November 4, 2012 Opening Reception: Friday, September 21, 5:30 - 7:30 pmSince opening its doors in 1980, the Krasl Art Center has remained committed to collecting contemporary sculpture, including Richard Hunt’s monumental memorial And You, Seas at the St. Joseph pier, and the magnificent Dale Chihuly chandelier in the KAC entryway. For the first time, learn about the history of this fascinating collection - how it began, who supported it and why. Discover where additional artworks are located that you may not know about, who the artists in the collection are and why their sculptures are in southwest Michigan.

The Natural & The Imaginary: Kathleen Elliot / Primordial Inspirations From Habatat GalleriesNovember 30, 2012 - January 13, 2013 Opening Reception: Friday, November 30, 5:30 - 7:30 pmKathleen Elliot’s nationally recognized glass art is featured in one gallery, and select works from the Habatat Gallery are in another. Together, these exhibits explore organic, tribal, imaginary and dramatic forms in glass, creating stunning sculptures and translucent environments within the galleries by some of the best glass artists today.

artlab is a venue for all artists who are pushing the boundaries of medium and form.

artlab is a gallery space dedicated to installation, time based media, sound and light.

artlab is not afraid to showcase the fruit of visual experimentation; it does not require a ‘finished product’ or an ‘established artist’.

artlab is open to emerging visual artists residing in the United States.
