Drumlin Farm, located 15 miles west of Boston in Lincoln on 232 acres of land, is a Mass Audubon Sanctuary that strives to adhere to our mission “To protect the nature of Massachusetts for people and for wildlife.” Drumlin Farm has been offering summer camp experiences since 1956.At Drumlin Farm Summer Camp, we develop an appreciation of nature, so that campers gain confidence and comfort being in the natural world and understand the interconnectedness between people, land, and wildlife.

We design and structure our camp program with three main concepts in mind:

• Community: Our staff works to build a supportive camp community. While campers are building friendships they are also learning about their place in natural communities. They learn to respect their peers and the diversity of their surroundings.

• Interdependence: Our camp program focuses on the interdependence of all living things. Campers learn this through chores we do on the farmyard, explorations of habitats, and foods we grow and prepare to share together as a community.

• Conservation: Our ethic is one of preserving the land for people and wildlife. Campers have many opportunities at Drumlin Farm to learn and take responsibility for how they can participate in the stewardship of the natural world.

StaffWe have a highly dedicated and knowledgeable staff and maintain low camper-to-staff ratios to allow for small group learning. Trained and qualified camp staff strive to build a connection between young people and the land through hands-on farm and nature activities, games, and crafts. Staff are carefully selected based on their maturity, enthusiasm, teaching experience, knowledge of natural history and farming, and deep commitment to teaching young people about the natural world. Our staff consists of college students and skilled professionals. The average staff to camper ratio is 1:5 for younger campers and 1:7 for older campers.

SafetyAll staff are CORI and SORI background checked and are certified in CPR and First Aid. A certified EMT is on staff and a pediatric physician is on call to provide routine or emergency care, if needed.

Drumlin Farm Day Camp is licensed by the state of Massachusetts and accredited by the American Camp Association.

PleaSe note: Our programs take place on a wildlife sanctuary and working farm. Campers will engage in outdoor exploration and activities, move about on uneven ground and work closely with farm animals.

Would you would like to be a camp counselor or a naturalist? Our CIT program is a leadership program designed for high school students who wish to learn more about and gain experience working with children in a natural history and farm-focused camp environment. Our CIT Coordinator provides on-going training and support for CIT’s as they develop individual teaching, leadership, and natural history skills. You’ll learn about the environment, assist counselors, lead group activities, and participate in a conservation project.

All CITs must attend CIT training on June 28-29, 2012. Further information about CIT training will be sent in the spring. A two-session, three or four-week commitment is required. CITs may join us for all sessions. Fee includes CIT training and two sessions of camp, additional sessions may be attended at no charge.

Are you interested in how conservation organizations conserve habitat for people and wildlife? Would you like to practice field research that helps scientists protect important bird, insect, and amphibian species? Ecology in action is a mix of field science, and research using the tools and skills of conservation biologists including GPS/GIS, advocacy to learn how conservation professionals support environmental legislation, and a virtual internship, at the office of a fictitious urban and regional planning firm. You’ll have a chance to apply your understanding of wildlife and their habitat needs, weigh the trade-offs of land use decisions in ecologically-sensitive areas, interact with stakeholders and use iPlan, a custom-designed Geographic Information System, to develop a land use plan for a local community in our watershed.
