OverviewRead this manual thoroughly tobecome familiar with how thenavigation system operates.

The navigation system includesnavigation and audio functions.

Keeping your eyes on the road andyour mind on the drive is importantfor safe driving. The navigationsystem has built-in featuresintended to help with this bydisabling some features whendriving. A grayed-out function is notavailable when the vehicle ismoving.

All functions are available when thevehicle is parked. Do the followingbefore driving:. Become familiar with the

navigation system operation,buttons on the faceplate, andtouch-sensitive screen buttons.

. Set up the audio by presettingfavorite stations, setting thetone, and adjusting thespeakers.

. Set up the navigation features,such as entering an address or apreset destination.

. Set up phone numbers inadvance so they can be calledeasily by pressing a singlebutton or a single voicecommand for navigation systemsequipped with phone capability.

{ WARNING

Taking your eyes off the road toolong or too often while using thenavigation system could cause acrash and you or others could beinjured or killed. Focus yourattention on driving and limitglances at the moving map on thenavigation screen. Use voiceguidance whenever possible.

Use the navigation system to:. Plan a route.. Select a destination using

various methods and choices.. Follow turn-by-turn route and

map guidance with voiceprompts, only if permitted bytraffic laws, controls, andconditions.

. Receive RDS broadcastannouncements (only forNavs/Radios with RDS.)

Always be alert and obey traffic androadway laws and instructions,regardless of the guidance from thenavigation system. Because thenavigation system uses street mapinformation that does not include alltraffic restrictions or the latest roadchanges, it may suggest using aroad that is now closed forconstruction or a turn that isprohibited by signs at theintersection.

Always evaluate whether followingthe system's directions is safe andlegal for the current conditions.

When the navigation system isturned on, a screen may appearwith information that must be readand acknowledged before accessingsome navigation features.

After acknowledging the start upinformation, the NAV (Navigation)and DEST (Destination) functionsare accessible. Information cannow be entered or deleted, andother functions accessed. Seeinstructions later in this section.

Every fifty times the vehicle isstarted and the navigation systemis turned on, the Caution screenappears. After reading the caution,select OK to load the map DVDinformation. If OK is not selected,all control buttons except forNAV (Navigation) andDEST (Destination) can beaccessed. You can also pressNAV to have this Caution screenappear.

When getting started, set yourpreferences or delete informationin the navigation system usingvarious options.

Navigation System Overview

The navigation system is controlledby using the buttons on thefaceplate and the touch screen.

The eight-way selector arrows canbe pressed from side to side, up,or down to navigate the map.

See “Infotainment Control Buttons”in this section for more information.

Infotainment Control Buttons

The buttons on the faceplate areused to start primary functions whileusing the infotainment system.

O (Power/Volume):

1. Press to turn the system onand off.

2. Turn to adjust the volume.

k (Play/Pause): Pressk to start,pause, and resume playback. SeeCD Player on page 21, and MP3 onpage 24 for more information.

SRCE (Source): Press to changethe audio sources such as AM-FMRadio, XM™ (if equipped), CD,and AUX.

TONE: Press to access the soundmenu screen to adjust bass,midrange, and treble. See AM-FMRadio on page 14 for moreinformation.

AS (Autostore): Autostoresearches and stores FM and AMstations with the strongest signal.Autostore does not function withXM radio stations.

INFO (Information): Press totoggle through an audio ornavigation information screen.

CONFIG (Configure): Press toadjust features for radio, navigation,display, phone, vehicle, and time.See Configure Menu on page 48 formore information.

HOME: See “Home Page” followingin this section.

MENU: Turn to highlight a feature.Press to activate the highlightedfeature.

NAV (Navigation):

1. Press to view the vehicle'scurrent position on themap screen.

2. Continue pressing to cyclethrough the full map andsplit screens.

RPT NAV (Repeat Navigation):Press to repeat the last voiceguidance prompt.

DEST (Destination):

1. Press to enter a destination.

2. If a destination has already beenentered, press to access theDestination Menu. SeeDestination on page 37 for moreinformation.

BACK: Press to return to theprevious screen in a menu.

If on a page accessed directly by afaceplate button or Home Pagescreen button, pressing BACK willgo to the homepage.

FAV (Favorite Pages 1-6): Pressto display the current page numberabove the preset buttons. Thestored stations for each list displayon the touch-sensitive presetbuttons at the bottom of the screen.

The number of presetFAV lists can be changed inthe Configuration Menu.

l (Seek Up):

1. Press to seek the next track.

2. Press and hold to fast forwardthrough a track.

3. Release the button to return toplaying speed. See CD Playeron page 21 and MP3 on page 24for more information.

4. For AM, FM, or XM (if equipped),press to seek to the next strongstation.

g (Seek Down):

1. Press to seek to the beginningof the current or previous track.If the track has been playing forless than five seconds, it seeksthe previous track. If longer thanfive seconds, the current trackstarts from the beginning.

2. Press and hold to quicklyreverse through a track. Releasethe button to return to playingspeed. See CD Player onpage 21 and MP3 on page 24for more information.

3. For AM, FM, or XM (if equipped),press to seek to the previousstrong station.

Preset Buttons (1-6): The presetbuttons numbered one through sixcan be used to select stored AM,FM, and XM (if equipped) stations.

Eight-Way Selector Arrows:Press the arrows to navigatethe map.

CLOCK: Press to set the time.

X (Eject): Press to eject a discfrom the CD player. See CD Playeron page 21.

Touch Screen Buttons

Touch screen buttons are on thescreen and highlighted when afeature is available. Some togglescreen buttons highlight when activeand gray out when inactive.

Home Page

The navigation system displays ahome page that makes accessingmany of the features an easyprocess.

Back: If on page two or three of theHome Page, press Back to return topage one of the Home Page. If onpage one, Back serves no function.

Home: While navigating throughother menus, press to go back tothe Home Page to start a differentfeature.

FAV: Press to display a pageof stored (favorite) AM, FM, orXM (if equipped) stations. Keeppressing FAV to scroll through thefavorite pages.

Info: Press to toggle through anaudio or a navigation informationscreen.

More: Press to cycle throughavailable Home Pages.

Menu: Press to go to theHome Page Menu.

Out of all available Home Pageicons, up to eight icons can beselected and sorted for the firstHome Page screen.

Home Page Features

Various functions are disabled whenthe vehicle is moving.

Press the Now Playing screenbutton to display the active sourcepage. The sources available areAM, FM, XM (if equipped), CD,USB/iPod, and AUX.

Languages

The vehicle supports English,French (Canadian), and Spanish.The default language is English.

To change the display language,see Configure Menu on page 48 inthis manual, or “VehiclePersonalization” in the Index ofthe vehicle owner manual formore information.

English and Metric UnitConversion

To change the display units betweenEnglish and metric units, see “DriverInformation Center (DIC)” in theIndex of the vehicle owner manual.

Deleting Personal Information

The navigation system can storedestinations and personalinformation such as names andaddresses.

At times, such as when selling ordisposing of your vehicle, you maywant to delete this information:. Address Book. Previous Destinations. Home Address

(user configurable). Favorite Routes

Cleaning the Display

Notice: Using abrasive cleanerswhen cleaning glass surfacescould scratch the glass. Use onlya soft cloth and do not spraycleaner directly on the system asit could affect the mechanicalparts.

Do not wipe the panel with a hardcloth or use a volatile liquid such aspaint thinner; it could scratch thesurface or erase the characters onthe buttons.

Playing the Radio

Audio Source

O (Power/Volume):

1. Press to turn the radio on or off.

2. Turn to increase or decreasethe volume of the active source(i.e., current audio source, activenavigation voice guidance,or traffic prompts).

The steering wheel controls canalso be used to adjust the volume.See “Steering Wheel Controls” inthe vehicle owner manual for moreinformation.

To access the radio main page,press the SRCE button on thefaceplate, the Now Playing screenbutton, or one of the audio screenbuttons on the Home Page.

While on the audio main page,press the Source button repeatedlyto display and cycle through theavailable sources (AM, FM, andXM (if equipped), CD, USB/iPod,and AUX).

If the audio source is on whileviewing a map screen, an icon ofthat source displays at the top of themap screen. This icon also allowsthe audio source to be changedwithout leaving the navigation mode.

Press the audio source icon locatedat the top left side of the screen todisplay a pop-up menu of availableaudio source icons. Press one ofthe icons to change the source.

Tone Settings

To access the tone settings, pressthe Home Page Tone button or theTONE button on the faceplate.

Use the tone settings to adjust thefollowing features:. Setting the tone. Adjusting the speakers

Setting the Tone

To adjust the tone:. Treble: Press + or − to change

the level.. Middle (Midrange): Press + or −

to change the level.. Bass: Press + or − to change

the level.

Adjusting the Speakers

To adjust the speaker balance:. Press the left arrow on the

bottom for more sound from theleft speakers or the right arrowon the bottom for more soundfrom the right speakers. Themiddle position balances thesound between the left andright speakers.

To adjust the speaker fade:. Press the upper arrow for more

sound from the front speakersand the lower arrow for moresound from the rear speakers.The middle position balancesthe sound between the front andrear speakers.

EQ Settings

The EQ settings are selectedthrough the tone menu. Press theleft or right arrows to cycle throughthe EQ options. The availablechoices are Pop, Rock, Jazz,Classical, and Talk.

Changing the Sources

To change audio sources from anyof the audio main pages (AM, FM,XM, CD, USB/iPod, or AUX), pressthe SRCE button on the faceplate orthe Source screen button to displaya pop-up of available audio sources.Touch-tap or press the SRCE buttonon the faceplate repeatedly tochange the desired source.

Storing Radio Station Presets

There are a few ways to storepresets.

Up to 36 preset stations can bestored. AM, FM, and XM,if equipped, can be mixed.

1. From the AM, FM, or XM mainpage, press and hold one of thepreset screen buttons located atthe bottom of the screen. After afew seconds, a beep will beheard and the new presetinformation will display on thatscreen button.

2. Press and hold a preset buttonon the faceplate to store thecurrently active station. After afew seconds, a beep will beheard and the new presetinformation will display on asmall pop-up display at thebottom of the screen.

3. Repeat the steps for eachpreset.

Recalling a Preset Station

To recall a preset station from aFAV page, do the following:

. Press the FAV button on thefaceplate to display the FAVpop-up. Select the desiredpreset from the pop-up.

. Press the FAV screen button atthe top bar to display the presetpop-up that appears at thebottom of the page. Press one ofthe preset screen buttons to goto the selected preset station.

. In the AM, FM, or XM(if equipped) main page, pressone of the preset screen buttonsto go to the selected presetstation.

Mixed-Band Presets

Each page can store six presetstations. The presets within a pagecan be from different radio bands.

To scroll through the pages, pressthe FAV button located on thefaceplate or the FAV screen buttonon the top bar. The current pagenumber displays above the presetbuttons. The stored stations foreach FAV page display on thepreset buttons at the bottom of thescreen. The number of FAV pagesdisplayed can be changed in theRadio Settings in theConfiguration Menu.

Radio Data System (RDS)

Radio Settings

From the Configuration menu, pressRadio Settings. Select RDS Settingsto display RDS options.

The audio system has a Radio DataSystem (RDS). RDS features areavailable for use only on FMstations that broadcast RDSinformation. With RDS, theradio can:. Seek to stations broadcasting

the selected type ofprogramming.

. Receive announcementsconcerning local and nationalemergencies.

. Display messages from radiostations.

This system relies on receivingspecific information from thesestations and only works when theinformation is available. In rarecases, a radio station couldbroadcast incorrect information thatcauses the radio features to workimproperly. If this happens, contactthe radio station.

The RDS system can be turned onor off. When information isbroadcast from the current FMstation, the station name or callletters display on the audio screen.RDS can provide a program type(PTY) for current programming andthe name of the program beingbroadcasted.

Satellite Radio

XM™ Satellite Radio Service

Vehicles with an XM satellite radiotuner and an XM satellite radiosubscription can receive XMprogramming.

XM is a satellite radio service basedin the 48 contiguous United Statesand 10 Canadian provinces. XMsatellite radio has a wide variety ofprogramming and commercial-freemusic, coast to coast, and indigital-quality sound. A servicefee is required to receive the XMservice. XM Categories

XM stations are organized incategories.

To customize which XM categoriesare used and displayed in thesystem, see “Adding or RemovingXM Categories” following.

Adding or RemovingCategories

1. From the Home Page press theConfig screen button or theCONFIG button on the faceplate.

2. Select Radio Settings from theConfig Menu list.

3. Select Add/Remove XMCategories.

4. From the Add/Remove XMCategories screen, select ordeselect any category to beused in XM mode. A checkmarkwill indicate that the category isselected.

Audio Players

CD PlayerThe player can be used for CD andMP3 audio.

With the vehicle on, insert a discinto the slot, label side up. Theplayer pulls it in and begins playing.While playing, the navigationsystem is available.

The system is capable of playing:. Most audio CDs. CD-R. CD-RW. MP3 or unprotected WMA

formats

When playing any compatiblerecordable disc, the sound qualitycan be reduced due to disc quality,the method of recording, the qualityof the music that has beenrecorded, or the way the disc hasbeen handled.

There can be increased skipping,difficulty in recording tracks,difficulty in finding tracks, and/ordifficulty in loading and ejecting.If these problems occur, check thedisc for damage or try a knowngood disc.

To avoid damage to the CD player:. Do not use scratched or

damaged discs.. Do not apply labels to discs.

The labels could get caught inthe player.

. Insert only one disc at a time.

. Keep the loading slot free offoreign materials, liquids, anddebris.

. Use a marking pen to label thetop of the disc.

Loading and Ejecting Discs

To load a disc:

1. Turn the vehicle on.

2. Insert a disc into the slot, labelside up. The player pulls it in therest of the way. If the disc isdamaged or improperly loaded,there is an error and thedisc ejects.

The disc automatically plays onceloaded.

PressX to eject a disc from theCD player. If the disc is not removedwithin a short period of time, it isautomatically pulled back intothe player.

Playing an Audio CD

1. Press the CD screen button onthe Home Page or select CDfrom the source pop-up todisplay the CD main page.

2. From the CD screen, press theMenu screen button to displaythe menu options.

MENU Knob: Turn to the right orleft to select the next or previoustrack. Press this knob to select themenu. If a track is selected from themenu, the system plays the trackand returns to the CD screen.

Error Messages

If Disc Error displays and/or the disccomes out, it could be for one of thefollowing reasons:. The disc has an invalid or

unknown format.. The disc is very hot. Try the disc

again when the temperaturereturns to normal.

. The road is very rough. Try thedisc again when the road issmoother.

Playing an MP3 CD

To play an MP3 CD, follow thesame instructions as “Playing anAudio CD.”

22.05 kHz, 24 kHz, 32 kHz,44.1 kHz, and 48 kHz.

. Bit rates supported: 8, 16, 24,32, 40, 48, 56, 64, 80, 96, 112,128, 144, 160, 192, 224, 256,and 320 kbps.

. Maximum number of folders:eight folders with 255 filesper folder.

. Maximum of 1,000 files ona disc.

. Recorded on a CD-R or CD-RWwith a maximum capacity of700 MB.

. The Artist/Album/Song Titles/Genre information requires a CDto be fully scanned before themusic navigator works withthese menus.

If a root directory or folder is emptyor contains only folders, the playeradvances to the next folder in thefile structure that contains acompressed audio file. The emptyfolder(s) are not displayed ornumbered.

No Folder

When the CD only containscompressed audio files without anyfolders or playlists, all files areunder the root folder.

File System and Naming

The song titles, artists, albums, andgenres are taken from the file's ID3tag and are only displayed if presentin the tag. If a song title is notpresent in the ID3 tag, the radiodisplays the file name as thetrack name.

Preprogrammed Playlists

The radio recognizespreprogrammed playlists; however,there is no editing capability. Theseplaylists are treated as specialfolders containing compressedaudio song files.

Auxiliary DevicesThis vehicle has an auxiliary inputjack in the center console. Possibleauxiliary audio sources include:. Laptop computer. MP3 player. Tape player

This jack is not an audio output.Do not plug headphones into theauxiliary input jack. Drivers areencouraged to set up any auxiliarydevice while the vehicle is inP (Park).

Connect a 3.5 mm (1/8 in) cablefrom the auxiliary device to theauxiliary input jack. When adevice is connected, the systemautomatically begins playing audiofrom the device over the vehiclespeakers.

If an auxiliary device has alreadybeen connected, but a differentsource is currently active, press theNow Playing screen button on theHome Page, then press Sourcerepeatedly to cycle through all of theavailable audio source screens, untilthe AUX source screen is selected.

Playing from a USB

A USB mass storage device can beconnected to the USB port.

The USB port is in the centerconsole.

The USB icon displays when theUSB device is connected.

USB MP3 Player and USB Drives. The USB MP3 players and USB

drives connected must complywith the USB Mass StorageClass specification (USB MSC).

. Only USB MP3 players andUSB drives with a sector size or512 bytes and a cluster sizesmaller or equal to 32 kbytes inthe FAT32 file system aresupported.

. Hard disk drives are notsupported.

iPod music information displays onthe radio’s display and beginsplaying through the vehicle’s audiosystem.

The iPod battery rechargesautomatically while the vehicle is on.When the vehicle is off while aniPod is connected using the iPodUSB cable, the iPod battery stopscharging and the iPod automaticallyturns off.

If the iPod is an unsupported model,it can still be listened to in thevehicle by connecting to theauxiliary input jack using a standard3.5 mm (1/8 in) stereo cable.

Map Scales

There are twomethods to changethe map scale:. Turn the MENU knob clockwise

or counterclockwise to zoom outor in.

. Press the Map Scale button onthe left bottom corner of themap screen to change thezoom level.

The map scale bar times out ifthe zoom level is not changedwithin a few seconds.

The scale ranges from 50m (50 yd)to 350 km (250 mi). To change frommetric to English, see “DriverInformation Center (DIC)” in theIndex of the owner manual formore information.

Scroll Features

. To scroll within the map, touchanywhere on the map screenand the scroll symbol displays.

. Tap the map to center at thatlocation on the screen.

. Press and hold the screen inany direction outside the scrollsymbol to scroll the map in thatdirection.

. Scroll speed increases whentouching closer to the edge ofthe screen.

. Press NAV on the faceplate toexit map scrolling and return tothe current vehicle location onthe map.

MapsThis section includes basicinformation that you need to knowabout the map database.

The maps are stored on a SecuredDigital (SD) card that is used in thenavigation system.

Detailed Areas

Road network attributes arecontained in the map database fordetailed areas. Attributes includeinformation such as street names,street addresses, and turnrestrictions. A detailed area includesall major highways, service roads,and residential roads. The detailedareas include points of interest(POIs) such as restaurants, airports,banks, hospitals, police stations,gas stations, tourist attractions, andhistorical monuments. The mapdatabase may not include data fornewly constructed areas or mapdatabase corrections that arecompleted after the production ofthe SD card. The navigation systemprovides full route guidance in thedetailed map areas.

Navigation SymbolsFollowing are the most commonsymbols that appear on a mapscreen.

The vehicle symbol indicates thecurrent position and headingdirection of the vehicle on the map.

The destination symbol marks thefinal destination after a route hasbeen planned.

The waypoint symbol marks one ormore set waypoints.

A waypoint is a stopover destinationpoint added to the planned route.

The estimated time and distance tothe destination are displayed. If waypoints have been added to the

current route, each waypointdestination displays estimated timeand distance.

This symbol indicates that the mapview is North up: North up displaysNorth at the top of the map screenregardless of the direction the

vehicle is traveling. Select thisscreen symbol to change the viewto Heading up or 3D.

This symbol indicates that the mapview is Heading up.

Heading up view displays thedirection the vehicle is traveling atthe top of the map screen. Theshaded triangle indicates North.

Press this screen symbol to changeto 3D mode.

Alpha-Numeric Keyboard

Letters of the alphabet, symbols,punctuation, and numbers, whenavailable, display on the navigationscreen as alpha/numeric keyboards.The alpha keyboard displays whendata needs to be entered.

QWERTY or ABCDEF: Press totoggle between QWERTY orABCDEF keyboard characterlayouts.

Symbols: Use to select symbols.

Space: Use to enter a spacebetween characters or the words ofa name.

Delete: Press to delete an incorrectcharacter that has been selected.

Address Entry

Press the Address Entry screenbutton to display the Enter Addressscreen. Set a route by entering thestate name, city name, street name,house number, and intersection.

To make name selection easier, thesystem highlights only charactersthat are available after thepreviously entered one.

Intersection: Enter a street namethat intersects with the selectedstreet.

Entering the city name first:

1. Enter the city name. The cityfield is automatically selected.

Points of Interest (POI)

Press the Points of Interest screenbutton located on the DestinationEntry page. Several options can beselected to plan a route.

The POI entry list allows selection ofa destination by category search,selection from map, or search byname method.

Entering by POI name:

1. Select Search by Name.

2. Make sure the correct state isselected, then select Name.

3. Enter the POI name.

4. Select a few of the charactersor spell the name in full, bypressing on the alpha keyboard.

Previous Destinations

Select a destination from thePrevious Destination List. Up to15 points that have been previouslyentered can be recalled. If the list isfull, the oldest destinations areautomatically deleted once thenewest destinations are added.

Adding a Favorite Route:

Detour

Press Detour to display the routedetour options. Select to detour thewhole route or by a specificdistance.

Route Options

This feature can be accessed fromthe Destination Confirmation Menu,Navigation Settings Menu, andDestination Menu with RouteGuidance Active. See “NavigationSettings Button” for moreinformation.

Waypoints

Up to three waypoints can be addedto the current route. The waypointscan be sorted (moved) or deleted.

To add a waypoint:

1. From the Waypoint List menu,press Add Waypoint.

2. Enter the waypoint by any of theadd destination methods. Thesystem calculates and highlightsthe route and the route can bestarted.

3. To add more waypoints, pressAdd Waypoint to add thewaypoint in the order desiredon the route.

To delete a waypoint:

1. From the Destination menu,press Waypoint List.

2. Press Delete Waypoints.

3. Select the waypoints to bedeleted. Press the Delete screenbutton.

The Sort Waypoint feature allowsreorganization of the waypoint list.

To sort a waypoint:

1. From the Destination menu,press Waypoint List.

2. Press Sort Waypoints.

3. Select the waypoint to move.

4. Select the location to move thewaypoint to.

Instead of deleting individualwaypoints, select Delete AllWaypoints to delete all waypoints atthe same time.

To save a waypoint list as a favoriteroute, select Save as Favorite.

OnStar® DestinationDownloadThe destination download lets anOnStar® subscriber ask an OnStarAdvisor to download a destination tothe navigation system. OnStar willsend address information andlocation coordinates of thedestination into the navigationsystem.

Using Destination Download

If the navigation radio screen isturned off before a download, thesystem automatically turns thescreen on and displays a downloadconfirmation message. The radioremains on after the download.

The navigation system displays“Please wait” as the address issearched within the map database.

If the address is not found within themap database, the system may uselatitude and longitude coordinates tolocate the destination.

If the system is unable to locate theaddress, the Destination Not Foundscreen displays.

Route Guidance Not Active

If an OnStar destination isdownloaded while route guidance isnot active, the navigation systemdisplays a pop-up screen with thefollowing screen functions:

Call: Press to initiate a call withBluetooth Phone (if available) orOnStar Personal Call.

Route Guidance Active

The Radio Settings are:

Speed Dependent Volume:Select OFF, Low, Medium, or Highsensitivity to automatically adjustthe volume to minimize the effectsof unwanted background noise thatcan result from changing roadsurfaces, driving speeds, or openwindows. This feature works bestat lower volume settings wherebackground noise is typically louderthan the sound system volume.

Startup Volume: Press to set themaximum volume level for startupthat will be used even if a highervolume had been set when the radiowas turned off.

Radio Favorites: Press to selectthe number of FAV pages to beused in the system.

Add/Remove XM Categories:Press to customize which availableXM Categories are used anddisplayed in the system.

Calculate After Confirmation — Ifenabled, the system will provide apop-up if a possible guidance routeis available to detour around trafficevents on the route. Select Yes fromthe pop-up and the new route will becalculated. XM™ NavTrafficinformation might not be providedfor the alternate route, depending onwhat type of road the vehicle istraveling.

Avoid Freeways: Press to avoidmajor roads. A checkmark appearsto indicate the Avoid mode is on.

Avoid Toll Roads: Press to avoidtoll roads. A checkmark appears toindicate the Avoid mode is on.

See “Traffic Settings” in thissection for more information.

A screen displays to indicate thatthe XM Traffic subscription is notactivated.

If activated, traffic informationdisplays:. Unscheduled traffic incident

data, such as accidents anddisabled vehicles.

. Scheduled traffic incident data,such as road construction androad closures.

. Traffic flow information (rate ofspeed data). Flow data might notbe available in all markets.

Traffic information is delivered to thevehicle by the XM Radio satellites.XM NavTraffic provides continuouslyupdated traffic information.

All Traffic Events: Press to viewa list of reported traffic conditionsfor up to approximately 150 km(100 mi). It could take some time todisplay the information received.

The information is displayed withan arrow and distance. The arrowindicates the distance is a straightline and the direction of the eventfrom the vehicle's current position.

Traffic Events on Route: Press todisplay a list of reported trafficconditions on the current route. Thebutton is toned down if no route isactive.

Traffic Settings: Press tocustomize traffic options.

XM Weather (If Equipped)

From the Home Page, press theXM Weather screen button. Thesystem displays the currentweather page.

On this page, select the Menuscreen button to access otherweather options, such as ExtendedForecast, Weather Along the Route,Weather Around Other Cities, andWeather Alerts.

Allow approximately 15 minutes forthe current weather in the area todisplay.

Press to show the extendedforecast.

Weather Along the Route

If a destination is set, there is theoption to view weather conditionsfor up to three locations alongthe route:. Current vehicle position.. Midway point from current

position to final destination.. Current weather condition of the

destination city.

Weather Alerts

From the XM Weather Menu, pressthe Weather Alerts screen button todisplay any current weatheradvisory warnings in effect nearthe current position.

Weather Around Other Cities

Select this option to view weatherconditions around or in a specificcity entered by name or selectedfrom the map.

Restore to Current Location

Press the Restore Current Locationscreen button to display the weathercondition for the city where thevehicle is currently located, if thesystem was modified to viewweather conditions in another city.

Photo Viewer

The Photo Viewer can only be usedwith USB devices. If the pictures areon an SD card, the pictures canonly be viewed if placed on aUSB device or by using aUSB-SD adapter. File sizes aboveapproximately six mega pixels maynot show. Only jpeg files aresupported.

1. Press the Viewer screen buttonon the Home Page.

2. The system does a search tofind the picture folders.A “Please wait” messagedisplays until the search isfinished.

3. A list displays. Select a pictureto view.

4. Once a picture displays, thefollowing options are available:

Info: Press to turn file nameinformation on or off.

S : Press to display a previouspicture if not in slide show mode.

r : Press to toggle between slideshow mode and manual mode.

T : Press to display a next pictureif not in slide show mode.

E : Press to manually rotatea picture 90 degreescounterclockwise.

Settings: Press to open the PhotoViewer settings screen. Slide ShowTimer, Shuffle Image Settings, andAutomatic Rotation Settings cannow be configured.

If the displayed picture screen is notused within six seconds, the upperand lower bar options will disappear.Touch-tap the screen to re-displaythe upper and lower bar.

Global PositioningSystem (GPS)The position of the vehicle isdetermined by using satellitesignals, various vehicle signals, andmap data.

At times, other interferences suchas the satellite condition, roadconfiguration, the condition of thevehicle, and/or other circumstances

can interfere with the navigationsystem's ability to determine theaccurate position of the vehicle.

The GPS shows the current positionof the vehicle using signals. Whenthe vehicle is not receiving signalsfrom the satellites, a symbolappears on the map screen. SeeNavigation Symbols on page 35.

This system might not be availableor interferences can occur if any ofthe following are true:. Signals are obstructed by tall

buildings, trees, large trucks,or a tunnel.

. Satellites are being repaired orimproved.

Vehicle PositioningAt times, the position of the vehicleon the map could be inaccuratedue to one or more of thefollowing reasons:. The road system has changed.. The vehicle is driving on slippery

road surfaces such as sand,gravel, or snow.

. The vehicle is traveling onwinding roads or long straightroads.

. The vehicle is approaching atall building or a large vehicle.

. The surface streets run parallelto a freeway.

. The vehicle has been transferredby a vehicle carrier or a ferry.

. The current position calibrationis set incorrectly.

. The vehicle is traveling athigh speed.

. The vehicle changes directionsmore than once, or the vehicle isturning on a turn table in aparking lot.

. The vehicle is entering and/orexiting a parking lot, garage, or alot with a roof.

. The GPS signal is not received.

. A roof carrier is installed on thevehicle.

. Tire chains have been installed.

. The tires are replaced or worn.

. The tire pressure for the tires isincorrect.

. This is the first navigation useafter the map data is updated.

. The 12-volt battery isdisconnected for several days.

. The vehicle is driving in heavytraffic where driving is at lowspeeds, and the vehicle isstopped and started repeatedly.

Problems with RouteGuidanceInappropriate route guidance canoccur under one or more of thefollowing conditions:. The turn was not made on the

road indicated.. Route guidance might not be

available when using automaticrerouting for the next right orleft turn.

. The route might not be changedwhen using automatic rerouting.

. There is no route guidance whenturning at an intersection.

. Plural names of places might beannounced occasionally.

. It could take a long time tooperate automatic reroutingduring high-speed driving.

. Automatic rerouting mightdisplay a route returning to theset waypoint if heading for adestination without passingthrough a set waypoint.

. The route prohibits the entry of avehicle due to a regulation bytime or season or any otherregulation which may be given.

. Some routes might not besearched.

. The route to the destinationmight not be shown if there arenew roads, if roads haverecently changed, or if certainroads are not listed in the mapdata. See Maps on page 35 formore information.

To recalibrate the vehicle's positionon the map, park with the vehiclerunning for two to five minutes, untilthe vehicle position updates.

Map Data UpdatesThe map data in the vehicle is themost up-to-date informationavailable when the vehicle wasproduced. The map data is updatedperiodically, provided that the mapinformation has changed.

See Map Data Updates onpage 61 for more information.

Voice RecognitionThe navigation system is notequipped with voice recognition.Vehicles equipped with OnStar mayhave limited voice recognition forfeatures such as Hands-FreeCalling.

See Bluetooth on page 63 for moreinformation.

Voice recognition can be used whenthe vehicle is on or when RetainedAccessory Power (RAP) is active.See “Retained Accessory Power(RAP)” in the vehicle owner manualfor more information.

Using Voice Recognition

1. Press and hold the b / gsteering wheel button for lessthan two seconds. The audiosystem mutes and a beep isheard. A voice prompt stating,“Ready” might be heard.

While voice recognition is active,the system displays a g symbol.

2. Clearly speak one of thecommands listed in “Using VoiceRecognition” under Using VoiceRecognition on page 64.

Canceling Voice Recognition

1. Press and release the $ /isteering wheel button to cancela command.

2. The system replies, “Goodbye.”

3. Press and release the b / gsteering wheel button to restartthe voice recognition session.

Using Voice RecognitionTo use voice recognition, pressb / g on the steering wheel.

If you know the command youwould like to execute, say thecommand. If the command is notknown, say “Help” while in anyvoice recognition menu.

Pairing a Phone

1. Press b / g.2. Say “Bluetooth.”

3. Say “Pair.” The system respondswith instructions and a four‐digitPersonal Identification Number(PIN). The PIN is used in Step 5.

4. Start the pairing process on thecell phone that you want to pair.For help with this process, seeyour cell phone manufacturer'suser guide.

5. Locate the device named “YourVehicle” in the list on the cellphone. Follow the instructionson the cell phone to enter thePIN provided in Step 3. After thePIN is successfully entered, thesystem prompts you to provide aname for the paired cell phone.This name will be used toindicate which phones arepaired and connected to thevehicle. See “Listing All Pairedand Connected Phones” later inthis section for more information.

6. Repeat Steps 1 through 5 to pairadditional phones.

Listing All Paired and ConnectedPhones

The system can list all cell phonespaired to it. If a paired cell phone isalso connected to the vehicle, thesystem responds with “is connected”after that phone name.

1. Press b / g.2. Say “Bluetooth.”

3. Say “List.”

Deleting a Paired Phone

If the phone name you want todelete is unknown, see “Listing AllPaired and Connected Phones.”

1. Press b / g.2. Say “Bluetooth.”

3. Say “Delete.” The system asksfor which phone to delete.

4. Say the name of the phone youwant to delete.

Connecting to a Different Phone

To connect to a different cell phone,the Bluetooth system looks for thenext available cell phone in theorder in which all available cellphones were paired. Depending onwhich cell phone you want toconnect to, you may have to usethis command several times.

3. Say “Change phone.”. If another cell phone is

found, the response will be“<Phone name> is nowconnected.”

. If another cell phone is notfound, the original phoneremains connected.

Storing and Deleting PhoneNumbers

The system can store up to30 phone numbers as name tags inthe Hands-Free Directory that isshared between the Bluetooth andOnStar systems.

The following commands are usedto delete and store phone numbers.

Store: This command will store aphone number, or a group ofnumbers as a name tag.

Digit Store: This command allowsa phone number to be stored as aname tag by entering the digits oneat a time.

Delete: This command is used todelete individual name tags.

Delete All Name Tags: Thiscommand deletes all stored nametags in the Hands-Free CallingDirectory and the OnStarTurn-by-Turn Destinations Directory.

Using the “Store” Command

1. Press b / g.2. Say “Store.”

3. Say the phone number or groupof numbers to store all at oncewith no pauses, then follow thedirections given by the system tosave a name tag for this number.

Using the “Digit Store” Command

If an unwanted number isrecognized by the system, say“Clear” at any time to clear thelast number.

To hear all of the numbersrecognized by the system, say“Verify” at any time.

1. Press b / g.2. Say “Digit Store.”

3. One at a time, say each numberto store. After each number isentered, the system repeatsback the number it heardfollowed by a tone. After the lastnumber has been entered, say“Store,” and then follow thedirections given by the system tosave a name tag for this number.

Using the “Delete” Command

1. Press b / g.2. Say “Delete.”

Using the “Delete All Name Tags”Command

This command deletes all storedname tags in the Hands-FreeCalling Directory and the OnStarTurn-by-Turn Destinations Directory.

To delete all name tags:

1. Press b / g.2. Say “Delete all name tags.”

Listing Stored Numbers

The list command will list all storednumbers and name tags.

Using the “List” Command

1. Press b / g.2. Say “Directory.”

3. Say “Hands-Free Calling.”

4. Say “List.”

Making a Call

Calls can be made using thefollowing commands:

Dial or Call: The dial or callcommand can be usedinterchangeably to dial a phonenumber or a stored name tag.

Digit Dial: This command allows aphone number to be dialed byentering the digits one at a time.

Re‐dial: This command is used todial the last number used on thecell phone.

Using the “Dial” or “Call”Command

1. Press b / g.2. Say “Dial” or “Call.”

3. Say the entire number withoutpausing or say the name tag.

Once connected, the person calledwill be heard through the audiospeakers.

Using the “Digit Dial” Command

The digit dial command allows aphone number to be dialed byentering the number, one digit at atime. After each number is entered,the system repeats back the numberit heard followed by a tone.

If an unwanted number isrecognized by the system, say“Clear” at any time to clear thelast number.

When an incoming call is received,the audio system mutes and a ringtone is heard in the vehicle.

. Press b / g to answer the call.

. Press $ /i to ignore the call.

Call Waiting

Call waiting must be supported onthe cell phone and enabled by thewireless service carrier.

. Press b / g to answer anincoming call when another callis active. The original call isplaced on hold.

. Press b / g again to return tothe original call.

. To ignore the incoming call, noaction is required.

. Press $ /i to disconnect thecurrent call and switch to the callon hold.

Three‐Way Calling

Three‐way calling must besupported on the cell phone andenabled by the wireless servicecarrier.

1. While on a call, press b / g.2. Say “Three‐way call.”

3. Use the dial or call command todial the number of the third partyto be called.

4. Once the call is connected,press b / g to link all callerstogether.

Ending a Call

Press $ /i to end a call.

Muting a Call

During a call, all sounds from insidethe vehicle can be muted so that theperson on the other end of the callcannot hear them.

To mute a call, press b / g, andthen say “Mute Call.”

To cancel mute, press b / g, andthen say “Un‐mute Call.”

Transferring a Call

Audio can be transferred betweenthe Bluetooth system and thecell phone.

The cell phone must be paired andconnected with the Bluetoothsystem before a call can betransferred. The connection processcan take up to two minutes after thevehicle is started.

Transferring Audio from theBluetooth System to a Cell Phone

During a call with the audio in thevehicle:

1. Press b / g.2. Say “Transfer Call.”

Transferring Audio to theBluetooth System from aCell Phone

During a call with the audio on thecell phone, press b / g. The audiotransfers to the vehicle. If the audiodoes not transfer to the vehicle, usethe audio transfer feature on the cellphone. See your cell phonemanufacturer's user guide for moreinformation.

Voice Pass-Thru

Voice pass‐thru allows access to thevoice recognition commands on thecell phone. See your cell phonemanufacturer's user guide to see ifthe cell phone supports this feature.

To access contacts stored in thecell phone:

1. Press b / g.2. Say “Bluetooth.” The system

responds “Bluetooth ready,”followed by a tone.

3. Say “Voice.” The systemresponds “OK, accessing<phone name>.”

The cell phone's normal promptmessages will go through theircycle according to the phone'soperating instructions.

Dual Tone Multi-Frequency(DTMF) Tones

The Bluetooth system can sendnumbers and numbers stored asname tags during a call. Use thisfeature when calling a menu-drivenphone system. Account numberscan also be stored for use.

Sending a Number or Name TagDuring a Call

1. Press b / g. The systemresponds “Ready,” followed bya tone.

2. Say “Dial.”

3. Say the number or name tagto send.

Clearing the System

Unless information is deleted out ofthe in‐vehicle Bluetooth system, itwill be retained indefinitely. Thisincludes all saved name tags in thephone book and phone pairinginformation. For information on howto delete this information, see theprevious sections on “Deleting aPaired Phone” and “Storing andDeleting Phone Numbers.”

Pairing a Phone Usingthe Infotainment SystemThe pairing process can be startedby using the controls on theinfotainment system.

1. Press the Phone screen buttonon the Home Page or faceplateto display the Phone screen.

2. Press the 4 screen button todisplay more options.

3. Select the Pair Device (Phone)screen button. The pairingprocess will begin searching forBluetooth devices on the cellphone. See the cell phonemanufacturer's user guide forinformation on this process.

On the cell phone, locate thedevice named “General Motors”or “Your Vehicle.” Follow theinstructions given on the cellphone, or follow the voiceprompts to enter the four-digitPersonal Identification Number(PIN) that has been provided.

4. The system voice promptrequests a name for the phonebeing paired. Use a name thatbest describes the phone. Thesystem voice prompt thenrepeats the name you providedfor confirmation; say “Yes.”

5. The system responds with“phone name has beensuccessfully paired” after thepairing process is complete.

Listing All Paired and ConnectedPhones

1. Press the Phone screen buttonon the Home Page or faceplateto display the Phone screen.

2. Press the 4 screen button todisplay more options.

Making a Call

Phone Book

The phone book can be accessedby pressing the Phone Bookselection on the Phone Menuscreen.

1. Turn the MENU knob to selectthe letter group associated withthe person or place to call.

2. Press the MENU knob to selectthe letter group.

3. Select the person or placeto call.

4. Press the MENU knob ornumber on the screen to makethe call.

Call Lists

The Call Lists selection from thePhone Menu screen can be used toshow a list of incoming calls,outgoing calls, and missed calls.

Accepting or Declining anIncoming Call

When an incoming call is received,the audio is muted and a ring tonesounds.

Accepting a Call

Press the Answer option on thescreen to answer the call.

Declining a Call

Select the Decline option onthe screen.

Call Waiting

Call waiting must be supported onthe Bluetooth phone and enabled bythe wireless service carrier to work.

Switching Calls (Only Availablewith Call Waiting)

This feature allows switchingbetween calls, making one callactive and placing the other on hold.

1. Press the Phone Menu buttonon the screen to access thePhone Menu.

2. Turn or press the MENU knob toSwitch Calls and press Enter orpress the Switch Calls option.

Conference Calling

Conference and three-way callingmust be supported on the Bluetoothphone and enabled by the wirelessservice carrier to work.

To start a conference while in acurrent call:

1. Press the Phone screen buttonon the Home Page until thePhone main screen is shownwith the current active call.

2. Press the Phone Menu button.

4. Make another call. The first callwill be placed on hold while thesecond call is dialing andconnected.

5. To make a conference call,select the Merge Calls screenbutton in the Phone Menu andboth calls merge into oneconference call.

6. To add more callers to theconference call, repeat Steps 3through 5. The number of callersthat can be added is limited byyour wireless service carrier.

Ending a Call

To end a call:

1. Press the Phone screen buttonon the Home Page or faceplateto display the Phone screen.

2. Press the Phone screen buttonto access the Phone Menu.

3. Press the Hang Up screenbutton to end the call.

Dual Tone Multi-Frequency(DTMF) Tones

The in-vehicle Bluetooth system cansend numbers during a call. This isused when calling a menu-drivenphone system.
