Getting StartedBefore operating the navigation system, read thismanual to become familiar with its operation.

While entering the vehicle or when turning the vehicleoff, some DVD Map Disc noise is normal.

Keeping your mind on the drive is important for safedriving. See “Defensive Driving” in the Index ofyour vehicle’s owner manual for more information.

The navigation system includes navigation and audiofunctions.

While the vehicle is parked:

• Familiarize yourself with all of its controls.

• Familiarize yourself with its operation.

• Set up your audio by presetting your favoritestations, setting the tone, and adjusting thespeakers.

• Set up the navigation features that can only bedone before you begin driving.

A destination or alphanumeric text can only be enteredwhen the vehicle is in PARK (P). The touch-sensitivescreen buttons leading to the alphanumeric keyboardare not lit while driving.

Other functions may also not function while driving.They appear grayed out on the screen. All functions areavailable when parked. Some functions can beperformed while driving, as long as you can do sowithout diverting too much of your attention from yourdriving.

{CAUTION:

This system provides you with a far greateraccess to audio stations and song listings.Giving extended attention to entertainmenttasks while driving can cause a crash and youor others can be injured or killed. Always keepyour eyes on the road and your mind on thedrive — avoid engaging in extended searchingwhile driving.

{CAUTION:

Looking at the moving map on the navigationscreen frequently or for too long while drivingcan cause a crash and you or others can beinjured or killed. Keep your eyes and mind onthe road and avoid looking too long or toooften at the moving map on the navigationscreen. Use the voice guidance directionswhenever possible.

The navigation system lets you:

• Plan a route with provided turn-by-turn route andmap guidance with voice prompts.

• Select a destination using various methods andchoices.

Always be alert and obey traffic and roadway laws andinstructions, regardless of the guidance from thenavigation system. The navigation system uses streetmap information that does not include all trafficrestrictions or the latest road changes, it may suggestusing a road that is now closed for construction or a turnthat is prohibited by signs at the intersection. Thesystem uses limited information. Always evaluatewhether following the system’s directions is safe andlegal for the current conditions.

Every fifty times the vehicle is started and the navigationsystem is turned on, the Caution screen appears.After reading the caution, select OK to load the mapDVD information. If OK is not selected, all hardkeys except for NAV (Navigation) and DEST(Destination) can be accessed. You can also press theNAV hard key to have this Caution screen appear.

When getting started, set the navigation system to yourpreference or delete information you may haveentered using various options.

Language — English/MetricTo change the language of the navigation screens, see“Driver Information Center (DIC)” in your vehicle’sowner manual index for more information.

To change the navigation screens from English ormetric, see “DIC Operation and Displays” in yourvehicle’s owner manual index for more information.

Deleting Personal InformationThis navigation system can record and store personalinformation such as names and addresses. At times,such as when you are disposing of your vehicle,you may want to delete this information. See “EditAddress Book — Edit/View” under Configure Menuon page 2-29 for deleting information from theaddress book.

Storing Radio Station PresetsTo set preset radio stations, do the following:

1. Press the O (power) knob to turn the system on.

2. Press the AUDIO hard key and select the desiredband (AM, FM1, FM2, XM1, or XM2 (if equipped)).

3. Use the f (tune) knob or the SEEK arrows to tuneto the desired station.

4. Press and hold one of the five preset screenbuttons, at the bottom of the screen, until you hear abeep or see the station displayed on the selectedpreset button.

5. Repeat the steps for each preset.

See “Storing Radio Station Presets” under NavigationAudio System on page 3-2 for more information.

Setting the ClockTo set the time, do the following:

1. Press the clock touch screen button located in theupper right corner of the screen.

2. Press the Set screen button.

3. Press the Hours and Minutes − (minus) and + (plus)signs to decrease and to increase the time. See“Setting the Clock” under Configure Menu onpage 2-29 for more information.

Setting the Search Area, Entering anAddress and Point of Interest, andStoring Preset DestinationsBefore entering an Address, Point of Interest, Home, orPreset Destination, select the appropriate region thatcontains the final destination. Your vehicle mustbe in PARK (P) to perform this operation.

Setting the Search AreaTo set the search area, do the following:

1. If the radio is already on with a map disc inserted,skip to Step 5.

2. Press the O (power) knob to turn the system on.

3. Insert the DVD map disc. See “Installing theMap DVD” under Maps on page 2-4 for moreinformation.

4. A caution may appear. Touch the OK screen buttonto proceed.

5. Press the DEST hard key.

6. Press the Change Search Area screen button.

7. Select the appropriate region numbered screenbutton that contains your final destination.

8. Press the Back screen button to return to theDestination Entry menu. See Destination onpage 2-14 for more information.

Entering an AddressIf you are having trouble finding a city or a street name,do the following:

• Input the street name first instead of the city name,or vice versa.

• Input more characters or reduce the amount ofcharacters to reduce or expand the availableoptions.

To set a destination by entering a city name, do thefollowing:

1. If the radio is already on with a map disc inserted,skip to Step 5.

2. Press the O (power) knob to turn the system on.

3. Insert the DVD map disc. See “Installing theMap DVD” under Maps on page 2-4 for moreinformation.

4. A caution may appear. Touch the OK screen buttonto proceed.

5. Press the DEST hard key.

6. Press the 6 Address Entry screen button.

7. The City name category will automatically beselected for entry. Start entering the city name.If five or less names are available for the enteredcharacters, a list will display. If more than five areavailable, there will be a screen button with a numberin it, it represents the number of available cities.Select this button to view the list and select a city.

8. Once a city is selected the street name categorywill automatically be selected for entry. Startentering the street name.Do not enter directional information or streettype, and use the space symbol screen button( U ) between street or city names. For example,the street name N. Royal Oak Rd. should beentered as royal U oak. Use the backspace( q ) screen button if an incorrect character hasbeen entered.If five or less names are available, a list will display.If more than five are available, there will be ascreen button with a number in it, it represents thenumber of available streets. Select this buttonto view the list.

9. Select the street name with the correct prefix fromthe list (Dr., Ln., St., etc.).

10. Once a street has been selected, the numerickeyboard will display, allowing you to enter thehouse number. The system will display the housenumber range that is available for the street.

11. Select the Go screen button. A map screen, withthe destination marked, will appear.

12. Select the route preference (Fastest, Shortest,or Other). The system will calculate and highlightthe route.

13. Select the Start Guidance screen button. You arenow ready to start your route.

Entering a Point of Interest (POI)To set a destination by entering a Point ofInterest (POI), do the following:

1. If the radio is already on with a map disc inserted,skip to Step 5.

2. Press the O (power) knob to turn the system on.

3. Insert the DVD map disc. See “Installing theMap DVD” under Maps on page 2-4 for moreinformation.

4. A caution may appear. Touch the OK screen buttonto proceed.

5. Press the DEST hard key.

6. Press the i Point of Interest screen button.

7. Enter the specific title of the POI in the POI namespace (i.e. Washington Monument).If five or less names are available, a list will display.If more than five are available, there will be ascreen button with a number in it, it represents thenumber of available POIs. Select this button toview the list.

8. Select the Go screen button. A map screen, withthe destination marked, will appear.

9. Select the route preference (Fastest, Shortest,or Other). The system will calculate and highlightthe route.

10. Select the Start Guidance screen button. You arenow ready to start your route.

Storing Preset Destinations1. If the radio is already on with a map disc inserted,

skip to Step 5.

2. Press the O (power) knob to turn the system on.

3. Insert the DVD map disc. See “Installing theMap DVD” under Maps on page 2-4 for moreinformation.

4. A caution may appear. Touch the OK screen buttonto proceed.

5. Press the DEST hard key.

6. Enter a destination. See Destination on page 2-14for information on how to enter a destination.

7. Press the Mark screen button from the map screento add the current final destination as a presetdestination.The address book screen will appear.

8. Select the Name screen button. An alpha-keyboardwill display. Enter the name.

9. Press and hold one of the screen buttons at thebottom of the screen until a pop-up confirmationdisplays.The name will appear in that preset destinationscreen button and is now available to select fromthe Destination Entry screen. See “Using YourStored Preset Destinations” next in this section toselect it as a destination.See “Adding or Changing Preset Destinations”under Destination on page 2-14 for more informationon how to add preset destinations.

Using Your Stored Preset DestinationsThese destinations are available for selection whiledriving.

1. If the radio is already on with a map disc inserted,skip to Step 5.

2. Press the O (power) knob to turn the system on.

3. Insert the DVD map disc. See “Installing theMap DVD” under Maps on page 2-4 for moreinformation.

4. A caution may appear. Touch the OK screen buttonto proceed.

5. Press the DEST hard key.

6. Select one of the available preset destinationscreen buttons. A map screen, with the destinationmarked, will appear.

7. Select the route preference (Fastest, Shortest,or Other). The system will calculate and highlightthe route.

Canceling GuidanceGuidance will be canceled once you arrive at your finaldestination. To cancel guidance prior to arrival at thefinal destination, do the following:

1. Press the DEST hard key.

2. Press the Cancel Guidance screen button.

Guidance VolumeTo adjust the volume of voice guidance prompts,do the following:

1. Press the MENU hard key to enter the menuoptions, then press the MENU key repeatedlyuntil Nav is selected or touch the Nav screen button.

2. Press the > Voice Prompt screen button.

3. Press the + (plus) or – (minus) screen buttons toincrease or to decrease the volume of the voiceprompts.

Features and Controls

Using the Navigation SystemThis section presents basic information needed tooperate the navigation system.

Use the hard keys located on the navigation systemalong with the available touch-sensitive screen buttonson the navigation screen to operate the system.See Navigation System Overview on page 1-2 formore information.

Once the vehicle is moving, various functions will bedisabled to reduce driver distractions.

Hard KeysThe following hard keys are located on thenavigation system:

O (Power/Volume): Press this knob to turn thesystem on and off. Turn the knob to increase ordecrease the volume to the audio system.

If your vehicle has the Rear Seat Entertainment (RSE)and Rear Seat Audio (RSA), press and hold thisknob for more than two seconds to turn off thenavigation system, the RSE, and RSA.

f (Tune/Speaker Adjustment): Press this knob toaccess the Sound screen to adjust bass, midrange,treble, and equalization or Digital Signal Processing(DSP), if the vehicle has the Bose® sound system.Turn the tune knob to go to the next or previous radiostation. See Navigation Audio System on page 3-2for more information.

Z (CD/DVD Eject): Press the eject button to ejectCDs or DVDs.

NAV (Navigation): Press this key to view your vehicle’scurrent position on the map screen. Each press ofthis key will cycle through Full Map and the tab thatdisplays the current audio source (AM, FM, CD,etc.). Full Map displays the screen in full map view.Selecting the audio tab will split the screen betweenthe map screen and the current audio source screenmenu. See “Audio” under Navigation Audio Systemon page 3-2 for more information.

DEST (Destination): Press this key to access theDestination Entry screen to plan a destination orto change the search area. See Destination onpage 2-14 for more information.

RPT (Navigation Repeat): Press this key to repeatthe last voice guidance prompt.

FAV (Favorite): Press this key to access the presetstations. See “Storing Radio Station Presets” underNavigation Audio System on page 3-2 for moreinformation.

AUDIO: Press this key to access the full Audio screento change AM, FM, XM™ Satellite Radio Service(if equipped), CD, DVD (if equipped), and auxiliary input.See “Audio” under Navigation Audio System onpage 3-2 for more information.

MENU: Press this key to adjust features for sound,radio, navigation, and the display. See ConfigureMenu on page 2-29 for more information.

¨SEEK / ©SEEK: Press the seek arrows to seekand scan radio stations, to seek tracks on a CD, and toseek chapters on a DVD. See Navigation AudioSystem on page 3-2, CD Player on page 3-12, andDVD Player on page 3-18 for more information.

Touch-Sensitive Screen ButtonsTouch-sensitive screen buttons are located on thescreen. When a screen button has been selected,a beep will sound. Screen buttons are highlightedwhen a feature is available.

Alpha-Numeric KeyboardLetters of the alphabet, symbols, punctuation, andnumbers, when available, will display on the navigationscreen as an alpha or numeric keyboard. The alphakeyboard will display when the system requires entryof a city or street name.

All characters are touch-sensitive screen buttons.Touch a character to select it.

A-Y (Accent Alphabet): Select this screen button toselect letters with accent symbols. This button maytoggle to A-Z.

A-Z (Alphabet): Select this screen button to selectletters from the alphabet. This button may toggle to A-Y.

0-9 (Numbers): Select this screen button to selectnumbers.

U (Space): Select the space screen button to entera space between characters or the words of a name.

q (Backspace): Select the backspace screen buttonif an incorrect character has been selected.

To make name selections easier, the system will onlyhighlight the characters that can follow the last oneentered. For example, if a Z is entered, a T may not beavailable for selection.

If a name does not display after entry, it may need to beentered differently, the map DVD disc may not containthat information, or the correct search area has not beenselected. See Database Coverage Explanations onpage 2-45 for more information or Destination onpage 2-14 to change the search area.

MapsThis section includes basic information needed to knowabout the map database.

Map CoverageThe maps are stored on a DVD. The 48 contiguousUnited States and portions of Canada are containedon one disc.

Refer to the “Navigation System Map Disc” manualto view a detailed explanation of map coverageand detailed city lists in each region. This manualwill be in the map DVD case when the vehicle isdelivered from the factory.

Installing the DVD Map DiscWhen a DVD Map Disc is installed, noise from the discmay occur when entering the vehicle and turning thevehicle off, this is normal system operation.

Your dealer/retailer may have installed the map DVD.If the map DVD was not installed, do the followingto load it:

1. Turn the ignition on.

2. Press the O (power) knob to turn the navigationsystem on or press the NAV, DEST, or MENUhard keys.

3. Touch the OK screen button to agree to theCaution screen, if it appears.

4. Touch the Insert Map Disc screen button.The screen will tilt to access the map DVD slot.

5. Load the map DVD partway into the slot.The system will pull it in.

6. Once the map DVD is loaded, touch the Closescreen button. The screen will close.

7. Set the search area. See ‘‘Setting The SearchArea’’ under Getting Started on page 1-4 formore information.

Ejecting the DVD Map DiscWhen the DVD map disc is not loaded, you will not beable to use the navigation portion of the system.

1. Press the MENU key to enter the Menu options,then press the MENU key repeatedly until Nav isselected or touch the Nav screen button.

2. Touch the Map Database Information screen button.

3. Touch the Change screen button. The screen willtilt, exposing the map DVD slot and the map DVDwill eject. Pull the disc out.

4. Touch the Close screen button. The screenwill close.

Handling the DVD Map DiscWhen handling the DVD map disc, be careful of thefollowing:

• Handle the disc very carefully to avoidcontamination or flaws. Signals may not read outproperly if the disc gets contaminated or flawed.

• If the disc gets soiled, use a soft cloth to gently wipeit out from the center of the disc to the outside.Do not use photographic record cleaner, solvents,or other cleaners.

• Do not use the disc to rest on while writing ordrawing using any writing utensil or attach a seal toany of the sides or the disc.

• Do not keep the disc in direct sunlight, hightemperatures, or humidity.

• After using the disc, place it back into theoriginal case.

DVD Map Disc MessagesIf Disc Read Error appears on the display and/or thedisc comes out, it could be for one of the followingreasons:

• If the map DVD disc was installed into the audioCD/video DVD slot. See “Installing DVD MapDisc” earlier in this section.

• It is very hot. When the temperature returns tonormal, the disc should work.

• You are driving on a very rough road. When theroad becomes smoother, the disc should work.

• The disc is dirty, scratched, wet, or upside down.

• The air is very humid. If so, wait about an hour andtry again.

Map AdjustmentsThe system allows you to adjust the scale of view onthe map. Also, as you drive, the map will scrollautomatically based on the direction of travel.

Map Scales

V / U (Zoom In/Zoom Out): Touch the zoom in orout screen buttons or the scale on the bar to change thelevel of map detail. The scale will appear on the screenonce the zoom in or zoom out screen buttons areselected. The system will adjust the map accordingly. Thescale of a map can range from 150 ft. (50 m) to 250 mi.(400 km). To change from English or metric, see “DriverInformation Center, DIC Operation and Displays” in theIndex of your vehicle’s owner manual.

Scrolling the Map

Touch anywhere on themap screen and the scrollsymbol will appear.Use this feature to scrollacross the map.

Move your finger in any direction on the map screenand the map will continue to scroll in that direction untilyou remove your finger.

If scrolling while your vehicle is in PARK (P), the systemwill scroll initially at a slower rate. It will increase ifyou continue touching the map screen.

If scrolling while your vehicle is in motion, you have onescroll speed and a limited distance to scroll. Youhave to keep touching the map screen to scroll for alonger distance.

If you have used the scroll feature to scroll the map andyour vehicle icon becomes lost, press the NAV(Navigation) key to return to the current vehicle locationon the map.

You can use the scroll feature on the map to set adestination. See “Pick from Map” under Destination onpage 2-14 for more information.

When scrolling on the map without a planned route,press the GO screen button to calculate the route fromyour current position to the destination mark.

SymbolsThe following symbols are the most common symbolsthat will appear on a map screen.

Your vehicle is shown asthis symbol. It indicatesthe current positionand heading direction ofyour vehicle on the map.

The destination symbol willappear on the map, after aroute has been planned,marking your finaldestination.

The waypoint symbol willdisplay on the map after awaypoint has beenadded to your route.

The waypoint symbol will be numbered from onethrough three depending on how many intermediatewaypoints have been set.

The distance to destinationsymbol indicates thedistance to your finaldestination.

This symbol only appears when time is not available orwhen you are scrolling on the map.

The distance and timeto destination symbolindicates the distanceand the estimated timeremaining to your finaldestination or arrival time,depending on the optionselected.

The straight line todistance symbol indicatesthe straight-line distanceto your destination.

This symbol will appear before you start driving on theroute or if you are on a road where navigationguidance cannot be given.

The north up symbolindicates the map withNorth Up, known asNorth Up mode.

While in North Up mode, the vehicle icon will follow thenorth direction on the map regardless of which directionthe vehicle is traveling. Select this screen symbol toswitch between North Up and Heading Up modes.

The heading up symbolindicates the map withthe vehicle travel directionup, known as HeadingUp mode.

The shaded triangle indicates the North direction. Whilein Heading Up mode, the direction your vehicle istraveling will always be at the top of the map screen.The vehicle icon will always be headed in the directionyour vehicle is traveling. Select this screen symbolto switch between Heading Up and North Up modes.

The No GPS symbol willappear when your vehicleis not receiving a GlobalPositioning System (GPS)satellite signal.

Select the MARK screenbutton to store the locationon the screen in youraddress book.

Displaying Points of Interest (POI) on theMap Screen

Touch anywhere on themap to display the POI(Point of Interest) screenbutton.

Select the POI screen button to display or delete POIicons from the map. Displaying POI icons on the map letyou know where POIs (i.e. restaurants, gas stations,etc.) are located. This screen will appear after selectingthe POI screen button.

Select one of the POI categories to display or to deletePOI icons from the map screen. Once a categoryhas been selected, the POI icon will display at the topof the screen. Five categories can be selected to displayon the map screen. When a category is selectedthose POI icons will display on the map. Press thePOI screen button again to add more POI icons.

More: Select this screen button to view more POIcategories.

POI Close to: Once a category has been selected,select this screen button to display the list of availablePOIs for the selected POI categories. The list providesthe POI icon, the name, the direction, and thedistance to the POI from your vehicles current position.Use the scroll arrows to move up and down the list.Use the Sort by DIST. (distance), Icon, Name, and, onRoute as desired.

Go: Press this screen button, next to the desired POI,to make this POI a destination or a waypoint.

Select a POI name to receive information about thePOI. From this screen you can select: Add to AddressBook, Go, Map, or Call (if OnStar® personal callingis activated).

Add to Address Book: Press this screen button toadd this POI to the address book. See “Nav” underConfigure Menu on page 2-29 for information on editingaddress book entries.

Go: Press this screen button to make this POI adestination or a waypoint.

Map: Press this screen button to display the mapshowing the location of the POI.

Call: Select to initiate a call using OnStar® HandsFreesystem. The Call button is only available if OnStar®

personal calling is activated. For more information aboutOnStar® HandsFree calling, please see the OnStar®

Show: Select this screen button to update the mapscreen and the list once a category has been selected.

Show POI: Select ON to display the POI icons onthe map screen. Select OFF to remove the POI iconsfrom the map screen.

List all Categories: Select this screen button to list allPOIs sorted alphabetically.

Clear: To delete a category, do one of the following:

• To delete the last added POI category, selectthe Clear screen button.

• To delete a specific POI category:

1. Select the category.2. Select the subcategory.3. A pop-up confirmation will display. Select the

Delete screen button, the map screen willdisplay with that POI category deleted.

Clear All: Select this screen button to clear all selectedPOI categories. A pop-up confirmation will display.Select the Delete screen button, the map screen willdisplay with all POI categories deleted.

Driving on a RouteWhen a destination has been routed and you are drivingon route, the map screen will automatically displaythe next maneuver.

This next maneuverpop-up will display the nextmaneuver direction andhow many miles orkilometers you are from it.

When you are approximately 1/2 mi. (.08 km) from thenext maneuver, the screen will display the nameand a detailed view of the next maneuver.

Auto RerouteWhen your destination is set and you are off theplanned route, the system will automatically plan a newroute and begin to reroute. You will be able to seethe new route highlighted on the screen.

Traveling Across RegionsIf you plan to drive across many states, you may haveto change the region selected to represent the areayou are traveling to. To change the region, do one of thefollowing:

• Change the selected region in the search areawhen you get closer to your destination. SeeDestination on page 2-14.

• Change the selected region in the search areawhen entering your destination and route settings.See Destination on page 2-14.

For example, if you were traveling from Michigan toFlorida, change the region currently selected inthe search area to Florida. Enter a destination inFlorida under the Destination Entry menu.

DestinationPress the DEST key to access the Destination Entryscreen. From this screen, you can select from severaloptions to plan a route by entering destination points.

Search AreaThe Destination Entry screen allows you to select thearea included in the search for your destination. A mapthat divides the 48 contiguous United States and apart of Canada into 11 regions is displayed.

Before selecting a method of destination entry, reviewthe search area map to make sure your destinationis located in the highlighted region.

Touch the Change Search Area screen button to view theSearch Area screen. Touch the numbered screen buttonto the left of the search area map that corresponds withthe numbered region and to view a list of states includedin the region selected. The selected area will be

highlighted on the map. Touch the down arrow to selectCAN (Canada). Touch the back screen button to return tothe Destination Entry screen and to store the selectedregion.

To enter a destination, choose from one of the followingdestination entry methods:

Address Entry

6 Address Entry: The address entry destinationmethod allows you to enter an address by providing thesystem with a city name or a street name.

If you are having trouble finding a city or a street name,do the following:

• Input the street name first instead of the city name,or vice versa.

• Input more characters or reduce the amount ofcharacters to reduce or expand the availableoptions.

To enter a destination by entering the city name first,do the following:

1. Press the DEST hard key.

2. Select the 6 Address Entry screen button.

3. Select the City name button.

4. Enter the city name or touch the Last 5 Citiesscreen button.The Last 5 Cities screen will display a list of the lastfive city names that had been entered. Select a cityfrom the list and it will appear in the City name area.

If using the alpha keyboard, finish entering the cityname. If five or less names are available, a listwill display. If more than five are available, there willbe a screen button with a number in it, it representsthe number of available cities. Select this buttonto view the list and select a city.

5. Once a city has been selected the Street namecategory will automatically be selected for entry.Start entering the street name. If five or less namesare available, a list will display. If more than fiveare available, there will be a screen button with anumber in it, it represents the number of availablestreets. Select this button to view the list.

6. Select the street name with the correct prefix(Dr., Ln, St., etc.) from the list.

7. Once a street has been selected, the numerickeyboard will display, allowing you to enter thehouse number. The system will display the housenumber range that is available for the street.

8. Select the Go screen button. The map screen,with the destination marked, will display.

9. Select the route preference (Fastest, Shortest,or Other). The system will calculate and highlightthe route.

10. Select the Start Guidance screen button. You arenow ready to start your route.See “Getting Started on Your Route” later in thissection for more information.

7. Select the Go screen button. The map screen, withthe destination marked, will display.

8. Select the route preference (Fastest, Shortest,or Other). The system will calculate and highlightthe route.

9. Select the Start Guidance screen button. You arenow ready to start your route.See “Getting Started on Your Route” later in thissection for more information.

To enter a destination by entering a cross street, do thefollowing:

1. Press the DEST hard key.

2. Select the 6 Address Entry screen button.

3. Select the Street screen button and start enteringthe street name.If five or less names are available, a list will display.If more than five are available, there will be ascreen button with a number in it, it represents thenumber of available streets. Select this buttonto view the list.

5. Once a street has been selected the Cross Streetscreen button will become available. Select thisbutton to view the list.

6. Select the street name with the correct prefix fromthe list (Dr., Ln., St., etc.). An Information screenwill automatically display.

7. Select the Go screen button. The map screen,with the destination marked, will display.

8. Select the route preference (Fastest, Shortest,or Other). The system will calculate and highlightthe route.

9. Select the Start Guidance screen button. You arenow ready to start your route.See “Getting Started on Your Route” later in thissection for more information.

Point of Interest (POI)The Point of Interest (POI) destination entry methodallows you to select a destination from the POI list.

i Point of Interest: Touch this screen button toaccess the Point of Interest (POI) screen. Fromthis screen you have two options to select/enter adestination; enter the name using the alpha keyboard orselect a category from the category list.

There isa screen button with a number in it, it representsthe number of available POIs. Select this button toview the list and select the POI.

5. Select the Go screen button next to the POI.The map screen, with the destination marked,will display.

6. Select the route preference (Fastest, Shortest,or Other). The system will calculate and highlightthe route.

Previous DestinationThe previous destination entry method lets you select adestination from a list of previous destination points.

7 Previous Destination: Touch to access thePrevious Destination screen. The system stores up to100 points that have been previously entered. Asnew destinations are entered, the system automaticallydeletes the oldest destinations and adds the newdestinations.

To use the previous destination entry method:

1. Press the DEST hard key.

2. Select the Previous Destination screen button.

3. Select a previous destination from the list. Use thearrow to the right of the destination to view theentire destination name as necessary. Use the scrollarrows to the left to scroll through the list.

4. Select the Go screen button next to the destination.The map screen, with the destination markeddisplays.

5. Select the route preference (Fastest, Shortest,or Other). The system calculates and highlightsthe route.

6. Select the Start Guidance screen button. The routeis now ready to be started.See “Getting Started on Your Route” later in thissection for more information.

Address BookThe address book entry method allows you to select adestination by selecting an address that has beenstored in your address book.

A list of your address book addresses will display.

3. Use the V / U screen buttons and touch on themap to find the area that you would like to selectas your destination.Pressing/holding and dragging your finger on themap activates fast scrolling.

4. Press/touch once on the area that you would like toset as your destination.The map screen displays the address information.

5. Select the Go screen button. The map screen, withthe destination marked displays.

6. Select the route preference (Fastest, Shortest,or Other). The system calculates and highlightsthe route.

Map CoordinatesThe coordinates destination entry method lets youselect a destination by entering latitude and longitudecoordinates.

Map Coordinates: Touch to access the CoordinatesEntry screen.

To use the coordinates destination entry method:

3. Select the Map Coordinates screen button.

4. Touch N (north) or S (south) next to Lat. (latitude)to enter the direction of the latitude coordinate.Enter the numeric portion of the latitude coordinate.

5. Touch E (east) or W (west) next to Long. (longitude)to enter the direction of the longitude coordinate.Enter the numeric portion of the longitudecoordinate.

6. Once both coordinates are entered, select the OKscreen button. The map screen, with the destinationmarked displays.

7. Select the route preference (Fastest, Shortest,or Other). The system calculates and highlightsthe route.

Preset DestinationThe preset destination entry method lets you set adestination by selecting from one of five previously storeddestinations. Besides voice tagged destinations, theseare the only destinations available to set while the vehicleis moving. If a destination is not set for one of the screenbuttons, the button is dimmed and not available for use.See “Adding or Changing Preset Destinations” later inthis section for information on how to add a presetdestination.

To use the preset destination entry method:1. Press the DEST hard key.2. Select the desired preset destination screen button.

The screen buttons are labeled with the name thatwas selected for the destination when it wasstored. The map screen, with the destinationmarked displays.

3. Select the route preference (Fastest, Shortest,or Other). The system calculates and highlightsthe route.

Getting Started on Your RouteOnce you have entered a destination there are severalfunctions that can be performed. Press the DESThard key to access the Route screen.

Turn ListTurn List: Touch this screen button to view the list ofturn maneuvers for the entire route and to avoid turns onthe route.

Q / R (Scroll Arrows): Touch the up and downarrow screen buttons to scroll through the list ofmaneuvers.

Avoid: Touch this screen button, next to the adjacentstreet name, to avoid the maneuver.

The map screen will display. Select the Fastest,Shortest, or Other screen buttons. Press the StartGuidance screen button. The route will re-calculatewithout the selected avoided maneuver.

Avoid List: Select this screen button to cancel anavoided turn. The list of selected avoided turnswill display. Select the turn to cancel the turn frombeing avoided.

Route Preview: Select this screen button to previewthe entire route in either direction.

t (Reverse Skip): Select this screen button to goback to the start point or previous waypoint.

q / r (Reverse Scroll): Select this screen button toscroll to the start point or previous waypoint. Thisbutton will toggle between slow and fast speed.

j (Pause): Select this screen button to pause theroute preview, while in reverse or fast forward scroll.

r / [ (Fast Forward Scroll): Select this screenbutton to scroll to the next waypoint or to the finaldestination. This button will toggle between slow andfast speed.

u (Fast Forward Skip): Select this screen button togo to the next waypoint or to the final destination.

Detour

Detour: Select this screen button from the Routescreen, then select to detour 1 mile, 3 miles, or 5 miles(1 km, 3 km, or 5 km) around the current route. Youmay also select to detour the whole route if necessary.This option is only available while you are driving onyour current planned route.

Voice PromptSelect this screen button from the Route screen to turnvoice prompts on or off and to change the volume ofvoice prompts. See “Nav” under Configure Menuon page 2-29 for more information.

Add Waypoint

Add Waypoint: Select this screen button from theRoute screen. This feature allows you to add up tothree waypoints to the current route, between your startpoint and final destination. Once a waypoint hasbeen added, the points can be edited or deleted.

To add a waypoint:

1. Press the DEST hard key.

2. Select the Add Waypoint screen button. This buttonwill only appear if a route has been calculated.

3. Using the desired method of entering a destination,enter the waypoint. See “Destination” previously formore information.

4. Select the route preference (Fastest, Shortest,or Other). The system will calculate and highlightthe route.

5. Select the Start Guidance screen button. You arenow ready to start your route.

6. To add the second and third waypoints, press theDEST hard key, then select the Add screen button,where you would like the next waypoint to fall onthe route.

7. Select the route preference (Fastest, Shortest,or Other). The system will calculate and highlightthe route.

8. Select the Start Guidance screen button. You arenow ready to start your route.

To delete a waypoint from your current route:

1. Press the DEST hard key.

2. Select the Delete screen button for the desiredwaypoint to delete.

3. The system will display a pop-up confirmationmessage. Choose Yes to delete the waypoint;touch No to cancel this operation.

4. Select the route preference (Fastest, Shortest,or Other). The system will calculate and highlightthe route.

5. Select the Start Guidance screen button. You arenow ready to start your route.

Suspend GuidancePress this screen button, from the Route screen,to put the current route on hold.

Resume GuidancePress this screen button, from the Route screen,to resume guidance on the current route.

Cancel GuidancePress this screen button, from the Route screen,to cancel the current route.

Adding Destinations to theAddress BookThere are two ways to add a destination to theaddress book:

• To add the current final destination to the addressbook, press the Mark screen button from the mapscreen. The system will automatically save the finaldestination information in the address book.

• Press the Add to Address Book screen buttonwhen available on POI information screens,Destination Entry screens, or POI screens.The system will automatically save this informationin the address book.

See “Nav” under Configure Menu on page 2-29 forinformation on editing address book entries.

Adding or Changing PresetDestinationsThis feature allows you to add or change one of fivepreset destinations. When a destination has been addedas a preset destination, it will be available to selectfrom the Destination Entry screen. See “PresetDestination” previously for information on how to selecta preset destination as a final destination.

To store the current final destination as a presetdestination:

1. Select the Mark screen button from the map screento add the current final destination. The AddressBook screen will appear.

2. Select the Name screen button. An alpha-keyboardwill display. Enter the name.

3. Press and hold one of the buttons at the bottom ofthe screen until a pop-up confirmation displays.The name will appear in that preset destinationscreen button and is now available to select fromthe Destination Entry screen.

To store an address book entry as a preset destination:

1. Select the MENU hard key.

2. Select the Nav screen button or press the MENUkey until the Nav screen button is selected ortouch the Nav screen button.

3. Select the Edit/View screen button.

4. Select the address book entry that you would like tostore as the preset destination. Select the Namescreen button to add a name, if needed.

5. Press and hold one of the buttons at the bottom ofthe screen until a pop-up confirmation displays.The name will appear in the that preset destinationscreen button and is now available to selectfrom the Destination Entry screen.

Configure Menu

Press the MENU hard key to adjust several of yoursystem’s features and preferences. The last selectedmenu screen will be the screen that displays; Sound,Radio, Nav (navigation), Display, or Time.

Allow toll road: This feature lets the system use tollroads when calculating a planned route.

Allow ferry: This feature lets the system use ferrieswhen calculating a planned route.

Allow time and seasonal restricted road: Thisfeature lets the system use time restricted and seasonalroads while calculating a planned route.

5. The system asks for you to state the name. You willhave five seconds. The system responds back withthe name.

To delete an address book entry:

1. Select the MENU hard key.

2. Select the NAV screen button.

3. Select the Edit/View Address Book screen button.

4. Select the address book entry to delete.

5. Press the Delete screen button to delete theaddress book entry.

To delete the entire address book:

1. Select the MENU hard key.

2. Select the NAV screen button.

3. Select the Edit/View Address Book screen button.

4. Select the address book entry to delete.

5. Press and hold the Delete screen button until thedelete all address book entries pop-up confirmationdisplays. Select Yes to delete; select No tocancel the operation.

Map Database Information

Touch the Map Database Information screen button tochange the map DVD and to view the coverage areas ofthe map DVD.

Change: Touch this screen button to eject or changethe map DVD. The screen will tilt, exposing themap DVD slot and, if loaded, the map DVD will eject.Pull the map DVD out. Insert the map DVD partway intothe slot. The system will pull it in.

A. Map DVD Slot

Once the map DVD is loaded touch the Close screenbutton. The screen will close.

Once the screen is closed touch the OK screen buttonto proceed to the navigation system. See GettingStarted on page 1-4 for more information.

Coverage: Touch this screen button to view the areascovered by the map DVD. Touch the up and downarrow screen buttons to view each region of the mapDVD. The screen will display the major cities forthe selected region.

Low Fuel WarningTo turn the Low Fuel Warning on or off, do the following:

1. Press the MENU key.

2. Press the Nav screen button.

3. Press the Low Fuel Warning ON or OFF screenbutton. The active button will be highlighted.

When on, a warning will appear on the display whenyour vehicle’s fuel tank is low on fuel. The warningpop-up window will ask if you would like to view gasstation POIs on the map display. Once the gas stationPOIs are displayed you can automatically route to agas station by touching the gas station POI symbol onthe screen and pressing the GO screen button.

To remove the POIs from the screen, see the POIinformation under Symbols on page 2-8 for moreinformation.

Off-Road ModeTo turn the Off-road mode on or off, do the following:

1. Press the MENU hard key.

2. Press the Nav screen button.

3. Press the Off-Road mode ON or OFF screenbuttons. The active button is highlighted whenthe feature is on.

When the off-road mode is turned on, the navigationsystem shows the path being traveled by the vehiclewhen not on a marked road. This path is a simulationsince the map database coverage does not have theseroads on the DVD. This path is stored in the navigationsystem’s memory, see “Previous Destination” underDestination on page 2-14 for more information.

Display

Press the MENU key to enter the menu options, thenpress the MENU key repeatedly until Display is selectedor touch the Display screen button.

Hours: Press the − (minus) or + (plus) signs todecrease or increase the hours.

Minutes: Press the − (minus) or + (plus) signs todecrease or increase the minutes.

12/24 Format: Select the 12 screen button for standardtime; select the 24 screen button for military time.The time will need to be reset manually when entering anew time zone.

Rear Vision Camera (RVC)Your vehicle may have a rear vision camera system.Read this entire section before using the camera system.The rear vision camera system is designed to help thedriver when backing up by displaying a view, onthe navigation screen, of the area behind the vehiclewhen the driver shifts the vehicle into REVERSE (R).

Turning the Rear Vision Camera SystemOn or OffTo turn the rear vision camera system on or off, do thefollowing:

1. Shift into PARK (P).

2. Press the MENU hard key to enter the Menuoptions, then press the MENU hard key toselect Display or touch the Display screen button.

3. Select the + Rear Camera Options screen button.The Rear Camera Options screen will display.

4. Select the Rear Camera Image in Reversescreen button. The screen button will behighlighted when on.

The delay that is received after shifting out ofREVERSE (R) is approximately 10 seconds. The delaycan be cancelled by performing one of the following:

• Pressing a hard key on the navigation systemor touching the navigation screen.

• Shifting in to PARK (P).

• Reach a vehicle speed of 5 mph (8 km/h).

There is a message on the rear vision camera screenthat states “Check Surroundings for Safety”.

{CAUTION:

The Rear Vision Camera (RVC) system doesnot replace driver vision. RVC does not:

• Detect objects that are outside thecamera’s field of view, below the bumper,or underneath the vehicle.

• Detect children, pedestrians, bicyclists,or pets.

Do not back the vehicle by only looking at therear vision camera screen, or use the screenduring longer, higher speed backing maneuversor where there could be cross-traffic. Yourjudged distances using the screen will differfrom actual distances.

So if you do not use proper care before backingup, you could hit a vehicle, child, pedestrian,bicyclist, or pet, resulting in vehicle damage,injury, or death. Even though the vehicle has theRVC system, always check carefully beforebacking up by checking behind and aroundyour vehicle.

Rear Vision Camera Location

The image is provided by the camera located above thelicense plate or just under the endgate handle.

The image is provided by the camera located on therear bumper.

The camera uses a special lens. The distance of theimage that appears on the screen differs from the actualdistance. The area displayed by the camera is limited.The camera does not display objects which are close toeither corner of the bumper or under the bumper. Thearea displayed on the screen may vary accordingto vehicle orientation or road conditions.

The following illustration shows the field of view that thecamera provides.

Notice: The spare tire extends farther away fromrear of the vehicle than the trailer hitch shownon rear vision camera display. Your spare tire couldhit an object even though there appears to beenough distance on the display between the trailerhitch and objects behind you causing vehicle orproperty damage. Do not use this system to judgethe distance between the spare tire and objectsbehind you.

Adjusting the Brightness and Contrast ofthe ScreenTo adjust the brightness and contrast of the screen,press the MENU key while the rear vision camera imageis on the display.

When the System Does Not Seem To WorkProperlyThe rear vision camera system may not work properlyor display a clear image in the following situations:

• RVC may be turned off. See “Turning the RearVision Camera System On or Off” earlier in thissection.

• In the dark.

• When the sun or the beam of headlights is shiningdirectly into the camera lens.

• If ice, snow, mud, or anything else builds up on thecamera lens. Clean the lens, rinse it with water,and wipe it with a soft cloth.

• If the back of the vehicle is in an accident, theposition and mounting angle of the cameramay change or the camera may be affected. Besure to have the camera and its position andmounting angle checked at your dealer/retailer.

• Extreme high or low temperatures or extremetemperature changes can affect the imagedisplayed.

Rear Vision Camera Error Messages

Rear Vision Camera System Unavailable: Thismessage may display when the system is not receivinginformation it requires from other vehicle systems.

If any other problem occurs or if a problem persists,see your dealer/retailer.

Global Positioning System (GPS)The navigation system determines the position of yourvehicle by using satellite signals, various vehicle signals,and map data.

At times, other interferences such as the satellitecondition, road configuration, the condition of the vehicleand/or other circumstances can interfere with thenavigation system’s ability to determine the accurateposition of the vehicle.

The GPS shows the current position of your vehicleusing signals sent by the GPS Satellites of the UnitedStates Department of Defense. When your vehicle is notreceiving signals from the satellites, a symbol appearson the map screen. Refer to Symbols on page 2-8.

This system may not be available or interferences mayoccur if any of the following are true:

• Signals are obstructed by tall buildings, trees, largetrucks, or a tunnel.

• Objects are located on the rear shelf of the vehicle.

• Satellites are being repaired or improved.

• After-market glass tinting has been applied to thevehicle’s rear windshield.

Notice: Do not apply after-market glass tinting tothe vehicle’s windows. Glass tinting will interferewith the system’s ability to receive GPS signals andcause the system to malfunction. You might haveto replace the window to correct the problem.This would not be covered by your warranty.

For more information if the GPS is not functioningproperly, see If the System Needs Service on page 2-44and Problems with Route Guidance on page 2-44.

Vehicle PositioningAt times, the position of the vehicle on the map may beinaccurate due to one or more of the following reasons:

• The road system has changed.

• The vehicle is driving on slippery road surfaces suchas in sand, gravel, and/or snow.

• The vehicle is traveling on winding roads.

• The vehicle is on a long straight road.

• The vehicle is approaching a tall building or a largevehicle.

• The surface streets run parallel to a freeway.

• The vehicle has just been transferred by a vehiclecarrier or a ferry.

• The current position calibration is set incorrectly.

• The vehicle is traveling at high speed.

• The vehicle changes directions more than once, orwhen the vehicle is turning on a turn table in aparking lot.

• The vehicle is entering and/or exiting a parking lot,garage, or a lot with a roof.

• The GPS signal is not received.

• A roof carrier is installed on your vehicle.

• The vehicle is being driven with tire chains.

• The tires are replaced.

• The tire pressure for your tires is incorrect.

• The tires are worn.

• The first time the map DVD is inserted.

• The battery is disconnected for several days.

• The vehicle is driving in heavy traffic where driving isat low speeds, and the vehicle is stopped and startedrepeatedly.

If you experience problems with your system, see yourdealer/retailer.

Problems with Route GuidanceInappropriate route guidance may occur under one ormore of the following conditions:

• You have not turned onto the road indicated.

• Route guidance may not be available when usingautomatic rerouting for the next right or left turn.

• The route may not be changed when usingautomatic rerouting.

• There is no route guidance when turning at anintersection.

• Plural names of places may be announcedoccasionally.

• It may take a long time to operate automaticrerouting during high-speed driving.

• Automatic rerouting may display a route returning tothe set waypoint if you are heading for a destinationwithout passing through a set waypoint.

• The route prohibits the entry of a vehicle due to aregulation by time or season or any other regulationwhich may be given.

• Some routes may not be searched.

• The route to the destination may not be shown ifthere are new roads, if roads have recentlychanged, or if certain roads are not listed on themap DVD. See Ordering Map DVDs on page 2-45.

To recalibrate the vehicle’s position on the map, seeyour dealer/retailer.

If the System Needs ServiceIf your system needs service and you have followed thesteps listed here and still are experiencing problems,see your dealer/retailer for assistance.

Ordering Map DVDsThe map DVD in your vehicle is the most up-to-dateinformation available when your vehicle was produced.The map DVD is updated periodically, provided thatthe map information has changed.

If you have any questions about the operation of thenavigation system or the update process, contactthe GM Nav Disc Center toll-free phone number,1-877-NAV-DISC (1-877-628-3472) or go to the center’swebsite, www.gmnavdisc.com. If you need anyupdates or a replacement disc, because the current discis lost, damaged, or needs to be updated, call the GMNav Disc Center or order a new disc online. Toorder a disc, have your Vehicle Identification Number(VIN) available. This helps the center make sureyou receive the correct and most up-to-date DVD mapdisc for your vehicle. See “Vehicle IdentificationNumber (VIN)” in the Index of your vehicle’s ownermanual for more information.

After receiving the updated disc, replace the old disc inthe navigation system. See “Installing the DVD MapDisc” and “Ejecting the DVD Map Disc” under Maps onpage 2-4. Dispose of the old disc to avoid confusionabout which disc is the most current.

Database Coverage ExplanationsCoverage area depends upon the map detail available.Some areas have greater map detail than others.The navigation system works only as well as theinformation provided on the map disc. See OrderingMap DVDs on page 2-45 on how to obtain updated mapinformation.

Navigation Audio SystemNotice: Before adding any sound equipment tothe vehicle, such as an audio system, CD player,CB radio, mobile telephone, or two-way radio, makesure that it can be added by checking with yourdealer/retailer. Also, check federal rules coveringmobile radio and telephone units. If sound equipmentcan be added, it is very important to do it properly.Added sound equipment can interfere with theoperation of the vehicle’s engine, radio, or othersystems, and even damage them. The vehicle’ssystems can interfere with the operation of soundequipment that has been added.

Notice: The chime signals related to safety belts,parking brake, and other functions of the vehicleoperate through the navigation system. If thatequipment is replaced or additional equipment isadded to the vehicle, the chimes may not work.Make sure that replacement or additional equipmentis compatible with the vehicle before installing it.See “Accessories and Modifications” in the Index ofthe vehicle’s owner manual.

Playing the Radio

O (Power/Volume): Press this knob to turn the audiosystem on and off. Turn the knob to increase or todecrease the volume.

f (Tuning/Sound Knob): Turn this knob to go to thenext or previous frequency.

Press this knob to display the Sound menu. See “SoundMenu” later in this section.

AUDIO: Press this key to display the audio screen.Press the key to switch between AM, FM, or XM,if equipped, DISC, or AUX (Auxiliary), or touch thescreen button. See CD Player on page 3-12, DVDPlayer on page 3-18, and Auxiliary Devices onpage 3-24 for more information.

Finding a Station

If viewing a map screen, touch the source screen(AM, FM, XM, CD, etc.) button. The display will splitbetween the audio screen and the map screen.All station-changing functions can be performed fromthis screen.

If you do not want to view a split screen or you are noton a map screen, press the AUDIO hard key.

AM/FM/XM: Touch the source (AM, FM, or XM, ifequipped) screen button or press the AUDIO keyrepeatedly until the desired source is highlighted.

Category: Touch the screen button, located in themiddle of the screen, to receive a list of all of theselected band stations in the area. Use the up anddown arrow screen buttons to scroll the frequencies.Touch the desired frequency.

XM lists will also contain a category to select and thestations or channels that pertain to the category. For XM,touch the left and right arrow screen buttons to changecategories. The station information will appear on thedisplay. See “Radio Menu” later in this section to addand remove XM categories from the category list.

When listening to XM stations, you will be able to selectall of the categories when using the right and left arrowscreen buttons on the main audio screen. The categories,when removed, will not be enabled to select from thecategory list screen.

FM lists may also contain a category to select if stationsin your area support Radio Data Systems (RDS).

$ Refresh List: Touch this screen button to refreshthe list of stations.

When viewing a map screen, the name of the station orchannel will appear on the display.

¨ SEEK / © SEEK: To seek stations, press the leftor right arrow keys to go to the next or previousstation and stay there.

To scan stations, press and hold either arrow for morethan two seconds. The radio will go to a station,play for a few seconds, then go on to the next station.To stop scanning, press either arrow again.

Storing Radio Station PresetsThis feature allows you to store up to 30 preset stations.See “Number of Preset Pages” under “Radio Menu” laterin this section for more information. You can mix AM, FM,and XM (if equipped). To store presets, do the following:

1. Press the O (power) knob to turn the system on.

2. If viewing a map screen, touch the source screenbutton, press the AUDIO key, or press the FAV(favorite) key.

3. Select the band.

4. Seek, scan, or tune to the desired station, to selectthe station.

5. Press and hold one of the preset screen buttons formore than two seconds or until you hear a beep.

6. Repeat the steps for each preset.

Sound Menu

f (Sound Menu): Press this knob or press the MENUkey to access the Sound menu to adjust the treble,midrange, bass, fade, balance, and equalization or DigitalSignal Processing (DSP), if equipped with the Bose®

sound system.

Setting the Tone

TREBLE: Touch the plus (+) or minus (−) sign toincrease or decrease the treble. If a station is weak ornoisy, decrease the treble.

MID (Midrange): Touch the plus (+) or minus (−) signto increase or decrease the midrange.

BASS: Touch the plus (+) or minus (−) sign to increaseor decrease the bass.

Adjusting the Speakers

L/R (Left/Right) (Balance): To adjust the balancebetween the left and the right speakers, touch and holdthe L or R screen buttons. To center the balance and thefade, touch the center, where the two lines meet.

Front/Rear (Fade): To adjust the fade between thefront and the rear speakers, touch and hold the Front orRear screen buttons. To center the balance and thefade, touch the center, where the two lines meet.

Automatic EqualizationIf the system has automatic equalization, you can selectcustomized equalization settings designed for Talk.Touch the Talk screen button to hear the change insound. The system will save the setting for each source.

To not use the automatic equalization setting, press anyof the screen buttons that will change the treble,midrange, bass, balance, or fade. This will take thesystem out of the equalization setting so that you cancreate your own sound.

Digital Signal Processing (DSP)If the system has Digital Signal Processing (DSP), DSPis used to provide a choice of four different listeningexperiences. DSP can be used while listening tothe audio system. The type of DSP selected is displayedon the status line.

Select from the following DSP settings:

Normal: Select this screen button to adjust the audio tobe in normal mode. This provides the best soundquality for all seating positions.

Surround (Centerpoint®): Select this screen button toturn on Bose Centerpoint® signal processing circuitry.Centerpoint® produces a full vehicle surround soundlistening experience from a CD, MP3/WMA, DVD, or XMstereo digital audio source and delivers five independentaudio channels from the conventional two channelstereo recordings. This is not available for AM or FM.

Driver: Select this screen button to adjust the audio togive the driver the best possible sound quality.

Rear: Select this screen button to adjust the audioto give the rear seat occupants the best possiblesound quality.

The 2 CH and 5.1 CH buttons are available only whena 5.1 CH disk is available and RSA is off.

2 CH (Channel): Select this screen button to enhancesurround sound. The Surround screen button mustbe selected to select the 2 CH screen button.

5.1 CH (Channel): Select this screen button, whenlistening to a DVD, to give a full affect of surround soundlistening. The Surround screen button must be selectedto select the 5.1 CH screen button.

Downmix: If a 5.1 CH disk is playing, and the 2 CHscreen button is selected or RSA is turned on, thesystem will downmix the audio from 5.1 CH to 2 CH ifthis feature is supported on the disk.

Radio Menu

Press the MENU key to enter the menu screen, thenpress the MENU key repeatedly until Radio is selectedor touch the Radio screen button to make changesfor radio information displayed or to limit features whiledriving, number of preset pages, XM categories, andAutomatic Volume Control or Bose® AudioPilot®.

Additional Information DisplayedThe navigation system may have this feature.

Touch the 4 Additional Information Displayed screenbutton to turn station, channel, CD, and MP3 informationon or off.

Touch the YES screen button to receive information,when it is available, for the following; FM: RDS categoryname and radio text, XM: Song Title and Artist Name,CD: CD text, MP3: tag information.

Touch the NO screen button to receive no information.

Limit Features While DrivingThe navigation system may have this feature.

Touch the Limit Features While Driving screen button toturn on and off the ability to limit functions whiledriving. When this screen button is highlighted, thefollowing functions will be limited while driving:

• Music Navigator Scrolling

• Radio Category Scrolling

• Navigation Menu Scrolling and some functions

See “Category” earlier in this section for moreinformation. See “From Map” under Destination onpage 2-14 for more information.

Number of Preset Pages

Touch the / Number of Preset Pages screen button tochange the number of preset pages, 1 through 6.Each preset page can contain five preset stations.Touch the desired numbered screen button.

Remove/Add XM Categories

Touch the & Remove/Add XM Categories screenbutton to remove or add XM categories when selectingXM categories from the category list screen. The listof XM categories will appear on the screen. Use the upand down arrow screen buttons to scroll through thelist. The categories to remove will be highlighted and thecategories to add will be dark in color. Touch thecategory that you would like to add or remove. Touchthe Restore All Categories screen button to add allcategories that have been removed.

Automatic Volume Control or BoseAudioPilot®

> Automatic Volume Control: With automaticvolume control, your audio system adjusts automaticallyto make up for road and wind noise as you drive.

To use Automatic Volume Control:

1. Set the volume at the desired level.

2. Press the MENU key to enter the menu screen,then press the MENU key repeatedly until Radiois selected or touch the Radio screen button

3. Press the > Automatic Volume Control screenbutton to access the Speed Compensated Volumescreen.

4. Touch the Low, Medium, or High screen buttons.Each higher setting allows for more compensationat faster vehicle speeds.

Then, as you drive, automatic volume controlautomatically increases the volume, as necessary, toovercome noise at any speed. The volume level shouldalways sound the same to you as you drive. To turnautomatic volume control off, touch the OFF screenbutton.

AudioPilot: If the system has the Bose® sound systemit may include Bose AudioPilot® noise compensationtechnology.

To use AudioPilot®:

1. Press the MENU key to enter the menu screen,then press the MENU key repeatedly until Radiois selected or touch the Radio screen button

2. Press the > Automatic Volume Control screenbutton to access the AudioPilot menu.

3. Press the ON screen button.

To turn it off, touch the OFF screen button.

When on, AudioPilot® continuously adjusts the audiosystem equalization, to compensate for backgroundnoise, so that your music always sounds the same at theset volume level.

This feature is most effective at lower volume settingswhere background noise can affect how well you hear themusic being played through your vehicle’s audio system.At higher volume settings, where the music is muchlouder than the background noise, there may be little orno adjustments by AudioPilot®. For more information onAudioPilot®, please visit www.bose.com/audiopilot.

Radio Data System (RDS)The audio system has a Radio Data System (RDS).RDS features are available for use only on FM stationsthat broadcast RDS information. With RDS, the radiocan do the following:

• Seek to stations broadcasting the selected type ofprogramming

• Receive announcements concerning local andnational emergencies

• Display messages from radio stations

This system relies on receiving specific information fromthese stations and will only work when the information isavailable. In rare cases, a radio station may broadcastincorrect information that will cause the radio features towork improperly. If this happens, contact the radio station.

The RDS system is always on. When information isbroadcast from the FM station you are listening to, thestation name or call letters will be displayed on theaudio screen. RDS may provide a program type (PTY)for current programming and the name of the programbeing broadcasted.

XM™ Satellite Radio ServiceXM™ is a satellite radio service that is based inthe 48 contiguous United States and 10 Canadianprovinces. XM Satellite Radio has a wide varietyof programming and commercial-free music,coast-to-coast, and in digital-quality sound. Duringyour trial or when you subscribe, you will get unlimitedaccess to XM Radio Online for when you are not inyour vehicle. A service fee is required to receive theXM service. For more information, contact XM atwww.xmradio.com or call 1-800-929-2100 in the U.S.and www.xmradio.ca or call 1-877-438-9677 in Canada.

When XM™ is active, the channel name and number,song title, and artist will display on the screen.

XM™ Radio Messages

XL (Explicit Language Channels): XL on the radiodisplay, after the channel name, indicates content withexplicit language. These channels, or any others,can be blocked at a customer’s request by calling1-800-852-XMXM (9696).

XM Updating: The encryption code in the receiver isbeing updated and no action is required.

No XM signal: The vehicle is in a location that isblocking the XM™ signal. When the vehicle is movedinto an open area, the signal should return.

Loading XM: The audio system is processing audioand text data received. No action is needed.

Channel Off Air: This channel is not currently inservice.

Channel Unavail: This previously assigned channel isno longer assigned.

No Artist Info: No artist information is available.The system is working properly.

No Title Info: No song title information is available.The system is working properly.

No CAT Info: No category information is available.The system is working properly.

CAT Not Found: There are no channels available forthe selected category. The system is working properly.

No Information: No text or informational messagesare available. The system is working properly.

XM Theftlocked: The XM™ receiver may havepreviously been in another vehicle. For securitypurposes, XM™ receivers cannot be swapped betweenvehicles. If this message is received after havingyour vehicle serviced, check with your dealer/retailer.

XM Radio ID: If tuned to channel 0, this messagewill alternate with the XM™ Radio eight digit radioID label. This label is needed to activate the service.

Unknown: If this message is received when tunedto channel 0, there may be a receiver fault. Consultwith your dealer/retailer.

Check XM Receiver: If this message does not clearwithin a short period of time, the receiver may havea fault. Consult with your dealer/retailer.

CD PlayerThe player can be used for CD and MP3. If your vehiclehas RSE, the player can be used for CD, MP3, DVDaudio, and as a DVD video player. See DVD Playeron page 3-18 for more information about DVD audioand video.

With the ignition on, insert a CD partway into the slot,label side up. The player will pull it in and the CD shouldbegin playing. While playing a CD, the navigationsystem is available. If you insert a CD with the systemoff and the ignition on, it will start to play.

When you insert a CD, the CD tab will display.

If you turn off the ignition or radio with a CD in theplayer, it will stay in the player. When you turn on theignition or radio, the CD will start playing where itstopped, if it was the last selected audio source.

As each new track starts to play, the track number willappear on the display.

The CD player can play the smaller 3 inch (8cm) singleCDs with an adapter ring. Full-size CDs and thesmaller CDs are loaded in the same manner.

If playing a CD-R the sound quality may be reduceddue to CD-R quality, the method of recording, thequality of the music that has been recorded, andthe way the CD-R has been handled.

There may be an increase in skipping, difficulty infinding tracks, and/or difficulty in loading and ejecting.If these problems occur, check the bottom surface ofthe CD. If the surface of the CD is damaged, suchas cracked, broken, or scratched, the CD will not playproperly. If the surface of the CD is soiled, see “Careof Your CDs” in the Index of your vehicle’s ownermanual.

If there is no apparent damage, try a known good CD.

Notice: If a label is added to a CD, or more thanone CD is inserted into the slot at a time, or anattempt is made to play scratched or damaged CDs,the CD player could be damaged. While using the CDplayer, use only CDs in good condition without anylabel, load one CD at a time, and keep the CD playerand the loading slot free of foreign materials, liquids,and debris.Do not add any label to a CD, it could get caught in theCD player. If a CD is recorded on a personal computerand a description label is needed, try labeling the top ofthe recorded CD with a soft marker instead.

If an error appears on the display, see “CD Messages”later in this section.If viewing a map screen, touch the CD screen button.The display will split between the audio screen andthe map screen. If you do not want to view a split screenor you are not on a map screen, press the AUDIOkey then press the AUDIO key until CD is selected ortouch the CD screen button.

Playing an Audio CD

j / r (Pause/Play): Touch this button to pausethe CD. This button will then change to the play button.Touch the play button to play the CD.

RANDOM: Touch this button to hear the tracks inrandom, rather than sequential, order. Touch RANDOMagain to turn off random play.

Using an MP3 CDMP3 FormatThere are guidelines that must be met, when creatingan MP3 disc. If the guidelines are not met whenrecording a CD-R(W), the CD may not play. Theguidelines are:

• Sampling rate: 16 kHz, 22.05 kHz, 24 kHz, 32 kHz,and 44.1 kHz.

• Bit rates supported: 32, 40, 48, 56, 64, 80, 96, 112,128, 160, 192, 224, 256, and 320 kbps.

• ID3 tag information is displayed by the radio if it isavailable. The radio supports ID3 tag informationv1.0 or v1.1. The radio will display a filename, songname, artist name, album name, and directory name.

• Maximum 32 characters, including spaces, in a file orfolder name.

• Maximum number of folders is 253 with a maximumhierarchy of eight folders.

• Create a folder structure that makes it easy to findsongs while driving. Organize songs by albums usingone folder for each album. Each folder or albumshould contain 18 songs or less.

• It is recommended that there is a maximum of192 files on a disc.

• The files can be recorded on a CD-R or CD-RWwith a maximum capacity of 700MB.

• DVD with MP3 are not playable on this system.

Root DirectoryThe root directory will be treated as a folder. If the rootdirectory has compressed audio files, the directorywill be displayed as ROOT. All files contained directlyunder the root directory will be accessed prior toany root directory folders. However, playlists (Px) willalways be accessed before root folders or files.

Empty Directory or FolderIf a root directory or a folder exists somewhere in thefile structure that contains only folders/subfolders and nocompressed files directly beneath them, the player willadvance to the next folder in the file structure thatcontains compressed audio files and the empty folderwill not be displayed or numbered.

No FolderWhen the CD contains only compressed files, the files willbe located under the root folder. The next and previousfolder functions will have no function on a CD that wasrecorded without folders or playlists. When displaying thename of the folder the radio will display ROOT.

When the CD contains only playlists and compressedaudio files, but no folders, all files will be located underthe root folder. The left and right arrow buttons willsearch playlists (Px) first and then go to the root folder.When the radio displays the name of the folder theradio will display ROOT.

Order of PlayTracks will be played in the following order:

• Play will begin from the first track in the first playlistand will continue sequentially through all tracks ineach playlist. When the last track of the last playlisthas been played, play will continue from the firsttrack of the first playlist.

• If the CD does not contain any playlists, then play willbegin from the first track under the root directory.When all tracks from the root directory have beenplayed, play will continue from files according to theirnumerical listing. After playing the last track from thelast folder, play will begin again at the first track ofthe first folder or root directory.

When play enters a new folder, the display will notautomatically show the new folder name. Thenew track name will appear on the display.

File System and NamingThe song name that will display will be the song namethat is contained in the ID3 tag. If the song name isnot present in the ID3 tag, then the radio will display thefile name without the extension (such as .mp3) as thetrack name.

Track names longer than 32 characters or four pages willbe shortened. The display will not show parts of words onthe last page of text and the extension of the filename willnot display.

Preprogrammed PlaylistsYou can access preprogrammed playlists which werecreated by WinAmp™, MusicMatch™, or Real Jukebox™software, however, you will not have editing capability.These playlists will be treated as special folderscontaining compressed audio song files.

Playing an MP3With the ignition on, insert a CD partway into the slot,label side up. The player will pull it in. The system maytake some time to read the MP3 disc. While playing a CD,the navigation system is available. If you insert a CD withthe system off and the ignition on, it will start to play.

When you insert a CD, the CD tab will display.

If you turn off the ignition or radio with a CD in theplayer, it will stay in the player. When you turn on theignition or radio, the CD will start playing where itstopped, if it was the last selected audio source.

As each new track starts to play, the track number willappear on the display.

If playing a CD-R the sound quality may be reduceddue to CD-R quality, the method of recording, the qualityof the music that has been recorded, and the way theCD-R has been handled. There may be an increasein skipping, difficulty in finding tracks, and/or difficulty inloading and ejecting. If these problems occur, checkthe bottom surface of the CD. If the surface of the CD isdamaged, such as cracked, broken, or scratched, theCD will not play properly. If the surface of the CDis soiled, see “Care of Your CDs” in the Index of yourvehicle’s owner manual.

If there is no apparent damage, try a known good CD.

Notice: If a label is added to a CD, or more than oneCD is inserted into the slot at a time, or an attemptis made to play scratched or damaged CDs, theCD player could be damaged. While using the CDplayer, use only CDs in good condition without anylabel, load one CD at a time, and keep the CDplayer and the loading slot free of foreign materials,liquids, and debris.

Do not add any label to a CD, it could get caught in theCD player. If a CD is recorded on a personal computerand a description label is needed, try labeling the top ofthe recorded CD with a soft marker instead.

If an error appears on the display, see “CD Messages”later in this section.

If viewing a map screen, touch the CD screen button.The display will split between the audio screen andthe map screen. If you do not want to view a split screenor you are not on a map screen, press the AUDIOkey, then press the AUDIO key until CD is selected ortouch the CD screen button.

Random: Touch this screen button to hear the discplayed in random (tracks and folders) order. Touch theRandom screen button to turn off random play.

CD MessagesIf Disc Read Error appears on the display and/or the CDcomes out, it could be for one of the following reasons:

• If a disc was inserted with an invalid or unknownformat.

• If the map DVD disc was installed into the CD slot.See “Installing the Map DVD” under Maps onpage 2-4 for more information.

• It is very hot. When the temperature returns tonormal, the CD should play.

• You are driving on a very rough road. When theroad becomes smoother, the CD should play.

• The CD is dirty, scratched, wet, or upside down.

• The air is very humid. If so, wait about an hour andtry again.

• There may have been a problem while burningthe CD.

• The label may be caught in the CD player.

If the CD is not playing correctly, for any other reason,try a known good CD.

If any error occurs repeatedly or if an error cannot becorrected, contact your dealer/retailer.

DVD PlayerThe player can be used for CD, MP3, DVD audio, andas a DVD video player.

With the ignition on, insert a DVD partway into the topvisible slot, label side up. The player will pull it in and theDVD should begin playing. While playing a DVD, thenavigation system is available. If you insert a DVD withthe system off and the ignition on, it will start to play.

This feature will not operate on the navigation screenunless the vehicle is in PARK (P).

The Rear Seat Entertainment (RSE) video screen willstart play of the DVD when a DVD has been insertedinto the navigation system. See “Rear SeatEntertainment System” in the Index of your vehicle’sowner manual for more information.

The DVD player is only compatible with DVDs of theappropriate region code that is printed on the jacket ofmost DVDs.

The DVD slot is compatible with most audio CDs, CD-R,CD-RW, DVD-Video, DVD-Audio, DVD-R/RW,DVD+R/RW media along with MP3 and WMA“un-protected” formats.

Rear Seat Entertainment (RSE)If the Rear Seat Entertainment (RSE) video screen isplaying a DVD movie and the ignition is turned to LOCKand then back to ACCESSORY, RUN, or START, theRSE screen will not turn back on automatically, but youwill hear the audio from the movie. To view the movieon the RSE video screen:

• Press the remote control O (power) button, thenthe r (play) button, which will continue themovie from where it was stopped.

• Press the r (play) screen button on the navigationscreen, which will continue the movie from where itwas stopped.

• Eject and replace the DVD movie from thenavigation system, which will start the movie fromthe beginning.

Playing a DVDThere are three ways to play a DVD:

• Once a DVD is inserted, the system willautomatically start play of the DVD.

• If you are on a map screen, touch the DVD screenbutton.

• Press the AUDIO hard key, then touch the DVDscreen button.

When a DVD is loaded in the DVD player, the rear seatoperator can power on the RSE video screen anduse the remote control to navigate through the DVD.

O (Power/Volume): Press this knob to turn the systemon and off. Turn the knob to increase or decrease thevolume of the audio system.

Press and hold this knob for more than two seconds toturn the navigation system, RSE, and RSA off.

DVD Menu OptionsOnce a DVD starts to play, the menu options willautomatically appear. To display the menu choices whilea DVD is playing in full screen, touch anywhere onthe screen.

There are three pages of menu options. Press the rightand left arrow screen buttons to use all of the menuscreen buttons. Menu options are available when theyare highlighted. Some menu options are only availablewhen the DVD is not playing.

Full: Press this screen button to remove all menuoptions from the display. Press anywhere on the screento display the menu options.

Cursor: Touch this button to access the cursor menu.The arrows and other cursor options allow you tonavigate the DVD menu options. The cursor menuoptions are only available if a DVD has a menu.

q , Q , r , R (Arrow Buttons): Use these arrowbuttons to move around the DVD menu.

Enter: Touch this button to select the highlighted option.

Return: Touch this button to go back to the previousDVD menu.

Back: Touch this button to go back to the main DVDdisplay screen.

Move: Touch this button to move the cursor buttonsback and forth from the bottom-right corner to the top-leftcorner of the screen.

j / r (Pause/Play): Touch this button to pause theDVD. This button will then change to the play button.Touch the play button to play the DVD.

Random: Touch this button to hear the tracks in random,rather than sequential, order. Touch Random again toturn off random play. This button is not available forDVD video.

c (Stop): Touch this button to stop play of the DVD.Press the play button to continue playing the DVDfrom where the DVD was stopped. Press this buttontwice to return to the beginning of the DVD.

r (Rewind): Touch and hold this button to rewindthrough the scene, chapters, and titles. This button maynot work when the DVD is playing the copyrightinformation or the previews.

[ (Forward): Touch and hold this button to advancerapidly through the scene, chapters, and titles. Thisbutton may not work when the DVD is playing thecopyright information or the previews.

Top Menu: Touch this button to display the first menuof the DVD. This button is not available on all DVDs.

Menu: Touch this buttonto display the DVD menu of thecurrent area of the DVD that is playing. This button isnot available for DVD audio.

Search: Touch this button to display the title searchscreen. The keyboard allows you to type in the titlenumber of the title that you would like to watch.

Setup: Touch this button to display the DVD Setupscreen. This button is only available when the DVD is notplaying. The DVD Setup screen allows you to change thebrightness, contrast, and mode, change the viewing onthe monitor, and to change the initial settings; language,parental level, and aspect.

! (Brightness): Touch the up or down screen arrowsto increase or decrease the brightness of the navigationscreen.

_ (Contrast): Touch the up or down screen arrows toincrease or decrease the contrast of the navigationscreen.

Auto (Automatic): Touch this screen button for thesystem to automatically adjust the navigation screenbackground depending on exterior lighting conditions.

Night: Touch this screen button and the systemwill make the navigation screen background darken.

Day: Touch this screen button and the system will makethe navigation screen background brighten.

Monitor: From the DVD Setup screen, touch thisbutton to adjust the viewing angle of the DVD on thenavigation screen. This is not available on all DVDs.

Touch the e button to close the screen in from the leftand right sides.

Touch the J button to fill the screen on the left andright sides.

Touch the d button to fill the screen on the top andbottom.

Initial Settings: From the DVD Setup screen, touchthis button to change audio, subtitle, and menulanguages, parental level, and to view the aspect of theDVD. The movie must be stopped to use this menu.These settings are not available on all DVDs.

Audio Language: Touch English, Francais, or Espanolto change the language that you are listening to.

Subtitle Language: Touch English, Francais, orEspanol to change the language of the subtitles.

Menu Language: Touch English, Francais, or Espanolto change the language of the menus.

Parental Level: Touch this button to change the ratinglevel to only allow the play of DVDs with a certain rating.The rating selection is 1 through 8, with 1 being a Grating. If the 1 is selected, any DVD with a rating above Gwill not be able to be viewed without entering a password.

When the parental level screen is first entered a keyboardwill appear on the display and a four-digit password willneed to be created. Type in a password that you will beable to remember. Once the password is created, youcan then select a rating level.

If you would like to change the rating level, press theParental Level button, then press the Password button.Type in the password and then change the rating level.

If the password has been forgotten, contact yourdealer/retailer.

This may not be available on all DVDs.

Aspect: Touch this button to change the aspect ratio ofthe DVD. This may not be available on all DVDs.

Audio: Press this button to display the audio streamnumber and to change the language heard. Repeatedlypress this button to toggle through the availablelanguages. This may not be available on all DVDs. Thisbutton is not available when the DVD is stopped.

Subtitle: Touch this button to playback the video withsubtitles. Repeatedly press this button to toggle throughthe available languages. To turn the subtitles off, pressthis button until Off is selected. This button is notavailable when the DVD is stopped. This may not beavailable on all DVDs.

Angle: Touch this button to adjust the viewing angle ofthe DVD. Repeatedly press this button to togglethrough the angles. This button is not available whenthe DVD is stopped. This may not be available onall DVDs.

q Page: Press this button to go to the previousscene. This button is not available when the DVD isstopped. This button is not available for DVD video.

Page r : Press this button to go to the next scene.This button is not available when the DVD is stopped.This button is not available for DVD video.

Auxiliary DevicesThe navigation system has an auxiliary input jack locatedin the upper right corner of the faceplate. This is not anaudio output; do not plug the headphone set into the frontauxiliary input jack. You can however, connect anexternal audio device such as an iPod, laptop computer,MP3 player, CD changer, or cassette tape player, etc. tothe auxiliary input jack for use as another source for audiolistening.Drivers are encouraged to set up any auxiliary devicewhile the vehicle is in PARK (P). See “Defensive Driving”in the Index of your vehicles owner manual for moreinformation on driver distraction.If your vehicle has rear audio/video input jacks, locatedin the rear of the center console, they can be usedas another source for audio/video listening.To use a portable audio player, connect a 3.5 mm(1/8 inch) cable to the auxiliary input jack. When adevice is connected, the system will detect andautomatically begin playing audio from the device overthe vehicle’s speakers.If a device is connected and you are listening to anothersource (FM, CD, MP3, etc.), press the AUDIO key thenpress the AUDIO key repeatedly until AUX is selected ortouch the AUX screen button. An auxiliary device must beconnected for the AUX screen button to appear as anoption to select or the vehicle must have rear auxiliaryjacks. See “Rear Seat Entertainment System” in theIndex of your vehicle’s owner manual for moreinformation on the rear auxiliary jacks.

Voice RecognitionThe navigation system’s voice recognition allows forhands-free operation of the navigation system,audio system, and OnStar® features. The DVD mapdisc must be installed in the navigation system for voicerecognition to work. See “Installing the DVD MapDisc” under Maps on page 2-4. Voice recognition canbe used when the ignition is on or when RetainedAccessory Power (RAP) is active. See “RetainedAccessory Power (RAP)” in the Index of your vehicle’sowner manual and for more information.

To use voice recognition, do the following:

1. Push and hold the g (talk) steering wheel controluntil you hear a beep. The audio system, if on,will mute.

2. Clearly state one of the commands listed on thefollowing pages.

Helpful Hints for Stating Commands• When a multiple command is available, choose the

command that best works for you.

• Words that are in brackets are optional. Forexample, for the command Radio [band] [select] FM,stating Radio FM or Radio select FM are bothvalid commands.

• When the system recognizes the command thesystem will:

− either perform the function− ask you to confirm your choice by clearly

stating “yes or no”− issue an error message such as “System

does not recognize this command” ordirect you to “Please start speaking afterthe beep”

• If the system is not yet ready, the system may state“System is checking the disc. Please wait”.

• To cancel a command or if the system responsedoes not match your verbal command, pressand hold the talk symbol button. The system willreply, “System will cancel the voice recognition”.

• If you experience difficulty with the systemrecognizing a command, try saying it more softly,and wait for a few seconds after the beep, oryou may just try saying it again.

• Background noise may cause voice commandsto be misunderstood, including airflow noisefrom wind.

• To use the voice recognition system, the map DVDmust be loaded.

This system is able to recognize commands in threedifferent languages. The system will only recognizecommands based on the language selected from theDriver Information Center (DIC). See “Driver InformationCenter, DIC Vehicle Personalization” in the Index ofyour vehicles owner manual.

Voice Recognition CommandsThe following list shows all of the voice commandsavailable for the navigation system with a briefdescription of each. The commands are listed with theoptional words in brackets. To use the voice commands,refer to the instructions listed previously.

Voice Tag CommandsThe following are voice tag commands you can accessby clearly stating the commands exactly as they arewritten. You may have up to 40 voice tag entriesfor destinations.

Navigation go to [destination] (voice tag), navigationselect [destination] (voice tag): These commandsinstruct the system to select a destination saved underthe voice tag you have stored.

When a destination is requested using a voice tag, thesystem will state, “Press or say cancel if not correct”.To cancel this voice tag destination, using voicerecognition, push and hold the g (talk) steering wheelcontrol until you hear a beep, then say “cancel”.

If you are not currently driving on a route, the systemwill automatically create the voice tag destination as thefinal destination. If you are currently driving on aroute, the system will automatically create the voice tagdestination as a waypoint. Up to three waypoints canbe created.

Storing Voice TagsFrom the address book entry information page, pressthe Add Voice tag screen button. The system willrespond “Name Please?”.

Navigation Help: This command instructs the systemto assist with navigation commands.

Display CommandsUse the following display commands to set thedisplay mode.

Display [set] day [mode]: Use this command to setthe display to daytime mode.

Display [set] night [mode]: Use this command to setthe display to night mode.

Display [set] auto [mode]: Use this command to setthe display to automatic mode. The system willchange between day and night mode automatically.

System help: This command instructs the system toassist with display commands.

Radio CommandsThe following are radio commands you can access byclearly stating the commands exactly as they are written.The commands are only available when you are inone of the following audio modes, AM, FM, or XM™(if equipped).

Radio: This command instructs the system to turn theaudio system on.

Radio [band] [select] AM, radio [band] [select] FM,radio [band] [select] XM, radio [band] [select]satellite: These commands instruct the system to go toeither the AM, FM, or XM (if equipped).

Radio [select] (frequency) AM, radio [select](frequency) FM: These commands instruct the systemto go to a specific frequency on either AM or FM.

Radio [select] (channel) XM, radio [select] (channel)satellite: These commands instruct the system togo to a specific channel on the XM™ band (if equipped).The channel must be a valid channel or the systemwill keep the radio at the current station setting.The system will pause while searching for the channel.

Radio help: This command instructs the system toassist with radio commands.
