Scripture Corner: NINETEENTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME

First Reading: 1 Kings 19:9a, 11-13a After fleeing from the revenge of the King of Israel, Eli-jah hid in a cave, but at the command of God, he went outside and stood on a mountain. There the Lord came to him, not in the wind nor in the earthquake, but in a “tiny whispering sound.”

Second Reading: Romans 9:1-5 Paul is deeply pained because the Jews - in spite of eve-rything that has been given to them - have rejected Christ.

Gospel: Matthew 14:22-33 Matthew vividly recounts the event of Jesus walking on the water. When the disciples see this, they are terrified, and Jesus chastises them for their fear. Peter begs Christ to let him walk on the water; he is at first brave but be-gins to sink and loses faith, crying out, “Lord save me!” Christ rescues him for his faltering faith.

August 15th is the Feast of the Assumption.

It is a Holy Day of Obligation. Catholics are expected to attend Mass.

Religious Education **NEW** CATECHISTS NEEDED We are currently in need of a Catechist for Grade 7 on Tuesdays from 6:00pm to 7:15pm. Parents, grandparents, college students and high school seniors welcome. ARE YOU REGISTERED? From time to time people come to the Rectory because they have the honor of being asked to be a Godparent for a Baptism or a Sponsor for a Confirmation and they need a document from us. This document states that they are members in good standing of this parish. The only way we can comply with this request is if the individual is indeed, a registered member of the parish who worships here on a regular basis. Please note that although you may have registered with the Religious Education Office or you may have made all your sacraments here at St. Marys, this does not automatically mean that you are registered with the Parish! If you would like to become a fully registered member or check to see if you are registered, please stop by or call the Rectory. If you are new to the parish, Fr. Duff would love to greet you personally!

Knights of Columbus Blood Drive 8-27 Memorial House-Katonah

The Knights of Columbus are sponsoring their semi-annual blood drive on Sunday, August 27 from 8:30 am to 2:30 pm. Hudson Valley Blood Services will be at the MEMORIAL HOUSE, 71 BEDFORD ROAD, KATONAH to collect blood. It is right next to the Fire Department. HOUR OF PRAYER FOR THE CONVERSION OF HEARTS

On Tuesday, August 15th, the Feast of the Assumption, immediately after the 12 noon Mass, St. Mary’s Parish in Katonah will, again, be joining Christians throughout Westchester & Putnam Counties to pray for the conversion of hearts of those who support, promote and perform abortion.
