A Warm Oxford Welcome
Greetings from the 2011 Triathlon
Committee and members of the Miami
University Student Foundation! We are very
excited that you are a part of the Sixth
Annual MUSF Triathlon.
While this is only the sixth year for the
MUSF Triathlon, this race has a longhistory. Following the founding of MUSF in
1972, the 20/20 Bike Race was born. In
1973, the original theme for the race, “A
Vision of the Future”, encompassed
MUSF’s goal to initiate an event that would
become an instant tradition. The first race
drew nearly 2,000 spectators and brought
a photo finish to the end of an exciting
event.
The race continued to grow though
the ‘70s and by the mid-‘80s it drew morethan 8,000 students. In 1985, a women’s
race was added and the top ten qualifying
teams competed in a ten mile race.
In 2006, as a result of declining
participation in the race, MUSF presented
the triathlon, with the hopes that this event
would better meet the interest of Miami’s
current community and students. Last
year’s triathlon attracted over 650
participants, establishing itself as a
signature campus event raising funds for
student scholarships.
To the university staff, Alumni
Association, and members of the Triathlon
Committee and Student Foundation, we
thank you for your hard work and
dedication to this event.
To participants and spectators of the
MUSF Triathlon, we wish you the best of
luck and extend our gratitude for your
support of our efforts in raising money for
student scholarships. We look forward to
seeing you all again next year as this new
tradition on Miami University’s campus
continues to grow.
Best regards,

What the MUSF Triathlon means to the members of the Student Foundation
More so than any other event the Miami University Student
Foundation puts on throughout the school year, the Triathlon truly brings
together every member of MUSF.
Each year, we begin planning for the triathlon during the
Fall semester. Preparations for the event are ongoing right up
until the first swimmer enters the pool and the event begins.
It’s a long process, making sure MUSF puts on the best
event they can for the participants.
Maybe it’s getting up at 4:30am on Saturday morning to
get everything ready by 6am. Maybe it’s seeing over 650
participants filling the pool deck and showing their appreciation for
MUSFers cheering them on during the grueling bike portion. But maybe
the strongest reason for why the Triathlon brings MUSF closer is knowing
that we put on a professional event, together, and that it’s for something
bigger than just us. All the proceeds we make off the Triathlon and
our other events go towards awarding student scholarships. It’s
why we do what we do.
MUSF has a lot of different events throughout the
year, organized and put on by the various committees within
the Foundation. The other events wouldn’t be possible
without the help of everyone, but the Triathlon is the greatest
test of MUSF’s strength as an organization. We believe we do a
pretty good job at it, and again we thank you for supporting our
mission to help students; past, present and future.
Don’t Miss Athlete’s Village!
New this year to the MUSF
Triathlon is the addition
of Athlete’s Village -
the pre and post race
destination spot for
food, fun, and medals
for all competing
athletes. Stop by the
Village before, during
