Welcome...

At Tiffi n University, our students endeavour to excel in both the classroom and the athletic arena. Our athletic pro-grams have enjoyed tremendous success in recent years with conference championships, teams being nationally ranked and challenging at national tournaments. There have been numerous individual ac-colades including All-Americans, and it is no small accomplishment that in the past few years we have set new standards of excellence with our individual and team academic achievements. We expect our student-athletes to be just as successful in the classroom. A recent self study con-ducted by the university indicated that, of all the athletes who completed their eligibility at Tiffi n Uni-versity in the last fi ve years, 95% of those athletes graduated. While many colleges would be ecstatic with these results, we will never be content until it is 100%. We are proud of our rich history and look forward to setting new milestones as we enter the NCAA Division II playing fi eld and the highly competitive Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. We are proud of our athletes and what they have accomplished. They have been the force behind the winning tradition that has been established, and I am confi dent the future will also be highly successful for Tiffi n University athletics.

The 2010-2011 Tiffi n University Women’s basketball team enjoyed a breakthrough year, posting a 15-12 record (their best mark in nearly 15 years) and qualifying for the GLIAC tournament for the fi rst time in school history. As exciting as the year was, the Dragons know it could have been even better, as they dropped 5 games by fewer than 7 points. The Dragons enter the 2011-12 season with the confi dence of knowing what they accomplished last season. They also did not graduate a single player, returning 10 letterwinners and all fi ve starters to a squad that is now loaded with experience and hungry to take the team to the next level. Leading the charge for the Dragons is two-time First Team All-GLIAC standout Mandy Jaeb, who averaged 14.6 ppg and 4.6 rpg while also fi nishing last season with 1211 ca- reer points, fi fth in Tiffi n history. Jaeb, who was also among GLIAC leaders in steals, was also named to the All-Defensive team for the second year in a row. Jaeb fi nished sixth in overall scoring in the conference while also placing second in free throw percentage. She cur-rently is TU’s all-time leader in free throw percentage and is third in career free throws made entering her senior season. Also back is Second Team selections Karli Mast and Jessica Harris. Harris was fi fth in overall rebounding in the GLIAC with 8.1 rpg while also averaging 9.4 ppg. Harris also cur-rently is third in TU history in career rebounds per game with a 8.3 per game average. Mast was second on the team with a 12.6 ppg average. She led the team with 50 three pointers. Her 50 treys were the fourth highest total in single season school history. Other key returners for the Dragons include Holly Focke (6.1 ppg, 4.9 rpg), Jennifer Johnston (6 ppg), Amanda Baute (6 ppg, 5.3 rpg), Melissa Gilliland (4 ppg), and Steph Kelly (3 ppg). Mary Kate Campbell (6-1, 19 games) and Jillian Adams (5-9, 26 games) also return in the post after gaining much experience in their debut seasons. The Dragons also look to utilize two new additions, guard Deidra Brown (Wilberforce University) and Jessica Korzelius (Sanata Ana CC), adding depth at the wing and the post.

Pam Oswald is entering her fi fth season as the head coach of the Dragons women’s basket-ball team for the upcoming 2011-12 season.

Oswald led Tiffi n University to a 15-12 overall record and 9-10 record in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference in the 2010-11 season. The Dragons reached a number of fi rsts as a team during the season. TU began the season with the best start in program history with a 5-0 record, fi nishing the season with the best record (15-12) since 1995 and also recorded the fewest turnovers in a season with 347. The Dragons led the GLIAC in steals per game with 10 per outing and in turnover margin (+7.19), while ranking second in scoring defense. It was also the fi rst season in which Tiffi n University defeated Ashland, Findlay, Hillsdale and Northern Michigan since joining the GLIAC.Mandy Jaeb earned her second consecutive First Team All-GLIAC honor while teammates Karli Mast and Jessica

Harris were named Second Team selections.

During the 2009-10 season Tiffi n posted a 7-20 record but proved much more competitive than the previous season, dropping 8 of those games by 9 points or less. The team posted a 4-18 mark in conference play, with most of those close losses coming against GLIAC opponents.

In three years as an assistant coach at Wheeling Jesuit University, she helped the Cardinals compile an impressive 67-26 record with two back to back seasons of 20 plus wins. Oswald’s contributions at Wheeling Jesuit saw the Cardinals post their most wins since 1992-93 (27), and advance to the NCAA Tournament twice, a fi rst in the program’s history. They also captured the 2005 West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference tournament championship.

During the 2005-06 season Oswald stepped in as interim head coach for ten games, racking up an impressive 9-1 record during WVIAC play. Under Oswald’s tutelage six players were selected as All-WVIAC honorees.

Prior to joining the Cardinals, Oswald spent three seasons (2001-2004) as an assistant coach at Kent State University.

During her time at Kent State she worked with both guards and post players (developing two All-MAC selection post players). While at Kent State the Golden Flashes were the 2002 Mid-American Conference regular season and tournament champions, participating in the NCAA tournament in 2002 & the WNIT in 2004.

A native of Berlin, OH Oswald joined the Flashes after spending 2 seasons as an assistant at her alma mater Berlin-Hiland High School, where she helped coach them to a 28-0 record and a Division IV State Championship in 2000.

A 1995 graduate of Malone University in Canton, OH, Oswald was inducted into the Malone Athletic Hall of Fame in January of 2006 with a career total of 1,681 points and 1,127 rebounds. Tiffi n University’s women’s basketball program has underwent numerous changes in the 90-plus years that the Dragons have had bas-ketball. The women’s team saw action sporadically during the fi rst two decades of this century, but started to play a regular schedule in 1924-25, fi nishing 10-0 that year. The program continued until the close of the 1936-37 season, posting a 54-28-3 record during that stretch. Dragons leaders included Hall of Famer Edith Miller. The program didn’t return for another 48 years. In 1984-85, women’s basketball fi nally returned to Tiffi n University, posting a winning record in its third year after returning (12-11 in 1986-87). In 1990-91, TU won its only Mid-Ohio Conference title, fi nishing 18-9 that season under Annette Kessler in her fi rst season with the program. The Dragons also currently have seven women’s basketball players in the Tiffi n University Hall of Fame - Edith Yambert Miller, Lois Collins Conrad, Tracy Almanson-Murphy, Angie Shardo Nunn, Susan Miller Hughes, Jenny Kane, and Melanie Sears. Eight years ago the Dragons earned their fi rst ever NAIA National Tournament trip under coach Leslie Mugg. Angie Nunn is the Dragons’ all-time leading scorer with 1820 points, while Tracy Alman-son is the leading rebounder with 802. But this season’s Dragons have many players who could easily change the face of the TU women’s basketball record books before their careers are through.

Share the Pride, Build on Traditionis a $12 million comprehensive campaign designed to create endowed student scholarships, construct the new recreation center, and make other campus improvements. These enhancements, coupled with recent investments in new student apartments, the Tiffi n University Nature Preserve, Paradiso Athletic Complex, and the Miami Street Improvement Project, will result in a total investmentby Tiffi n University of more than $30 million in the Tiffi n community.

Campaign ObjectivesRecreation Center$9,400,000The Recreation Center will consist of two connected buildings: a fi eld house and an indoor practice facility. The connector will include a lobby and locker room facilities.

Other Campus Development$1,600,000Over the past several decades, TU has created a campus that not only refl ects the University’s own growth and success, but also en-hances the appearance and economic well being of the City of Tiffi n. To continue pursuing the campus master plan, TU seeks $1.6 million for land acquisition, landscaping, parking and others amenities.

Endowed Student Scholarships$1,000,000Without fi nancial aid, many Tiffi n University students could not afford higher education. Since over 80 percent of TU students receive some level of aid, TU leaders seek $1 million to bolster the endowment resources of the University to create additionalstudent scholarships.

2011 Dragons in the Community

Connecting with the Tiffi n community is one of Tiffi n University’s Women’s Basketball team’s main goals. It has been a priority, for many years, for the young Women on the basketball team to be involved in community events to enhance their time here as Tiffi n University student-athletes. The Lady Dragons strive to be a positive infl u-ence on and off the court by participating in many different community events. They also feel it is a responsibility of theirs to be positive role models for the youth in the community by participating in the differ-

ent events. The beginning of the 2011-2012 campaign has been no different, as the team has already participated in three different events around the community.

Their fi rst event of the year involved participating in one of the many Go Green Tiffi n Initiative events. These events hope to educate the community about recycling and reducing waste to help the environment. The Lady Dragons spent time at the Heritage Festival talking to visitors about the impor-

tance of recycling.

The Women’s Basketball team continues to be a Gold Star sponsor of Route 224. They ad-opted that section of road several years ago, and continue to pick up trash two to three times a year.

On October 26th and 29th the Lady Dragons went to the Autumnwood Care Center to spend time with its residents. On the 26th they spent time playing games with the elderly and on the

29th they assisted in the weekly Bingo games held there.

In the spring, the Lady Dragons will be hosting free clinics after school for several local Elemen-tary Schools.
