Tending the
Garden ofYour SoulI was curious why as
Americans we say, You arewelcome after someone
says Thank you it justdoesnt make sense if youthink about what welcome
means, to drink in,embrace, etc.
Maya Hirsoux
Do we welcome those
who do favors for us?
Jesus teaches somethingabout welcoming:
that embracing the other,we are embracing
the Christ and the God.The United Methodist Churchhas a tag line: Open Hearts,
Open Minds, Open Doors.
How well do weat Hennepin Church?
Who can best answerthat question?
Where in your life did you
experience welcomemost profoundly?
What made the difference?

We are now in the Seasonafter Pentecost, what we
often refer to as OrdinaryTime and so we enter
into our theme: Tending
the Garden of Your Soul, recognizing that most ofour tending needs to be
during those ordinarytimes. We live most of our
lives in ordinary time, dont we? And yet the
miracle of our lives isanything but ordinary. It isin our every day living that
we practice loving ourneighbors, our selves, and
our God. How do you tendto your soul? How is your
garden growing?
For next week, read
Romans 7:15-24
Come, my Way, my Truth, my Life:Such a Way, as gives us breath:
Such a Truth, as ends all strife:Such a Life, as killeth death.
Come, my Light,my Feast, my Strength:
Such a Light, as shows a feast:Such a Feast, as mends in length:
Such a Strength, as makes his guest.
Come, my Joy, my Love, my Heart:Such a Joy, as none can move:Such a Love, as none can part:
Such a Heart, as joys in love
(Poem by George Herbert)
Whoever welcomes you welcomes me,
and whoever welcomes me welcomes
the one who sent me. Whoever welcomes
a prophet in the name of a prophet will
receive a prophets reward; and whoever
welcomes a righteous person in the
name of a righteous person will receive
the reward of the righteous; and whoever
gives even a cup of cold water to one
of these little ones in the name of a
disciple truly I tell you, none of these
will lose their reward.

Loring Nicollet Meals On Wheels.
The cost of food is going up, state
funding is going down. A number
of our self-pay clients cannot afford
the total cost of meals. Volunteerdrivers are still the back bone of the
program. Thank for what you can
give, both in time and monetary
support.
Work with children: The Hennepin
Russia Partnership is looking for a
physical or occupational therapist
to work with children in Russia
who have cerebral palsy and severe
learning disabilities. Travel required.

Dignity Center needs sandwiches: The
freezer is nearly empty of sand-
wiches. Making sandwiches: a great
activity for an individual, family, or
group. Please put meat & cheese
between two pieces of bread. Put
sandwiches in individual baggies
and all back into the bread wrap-
per. Label with date and type of
sandwich then deliver to reception
desk at Hennepin. Also needed:
school supplies. Many D.C. clients
are in school and need notebooks,
pocket folders, post-it notes, and
yellow tablets. Bring to reception
desk, with label Dignity Center.
Sunday School
Volunteers NeededSummer Sunday school starts in a
couple of weeks and we need your

grade groups will focus on the Fruits
of the Spirit. The 4th and 5th grade
group will focus on making a
difference in the world and will do
monthly hands-on service projects.
Volunteer for one or several dates.
Summer is a great time to volunteer,
especially if you have obligations
throughout the program year that take
a break during the summer. Make a
difference in a childs life and have
some fun while youre at it! Sign up at
