Garden ofYour SoulI was curious why as

Americans we say, You arewelcome after someone

says Thank you it justdoesnt make sense if youthink about what welcome

    means, to drink in,embrace, etc.

    Maya Hirsoux

    Do we welcome those

    who do favors for us?

    Jesus teaches somethingabout welcoming:

that embracing the other,we are embracing

the Christ and the God.The United Methodist Churchhas a tag line: Open Hearts,

    Open Minds, Open Doors.

How well do weat Hennepin Church?

    Who can best answerthat question?

Where in your life did you

    experience welcomemost profoundly?

    What made the difference?

We are now in the Seasonafter Pentecost, what we

often refer to as OrdinaryTime and so we enter

    into our theme: Tending

the Garden of Your Soul, recognizing that most ofour tending needs to be

during those ordinarytimes. We live most of our

lives in ordinary time, dont we? And yet the

miracle of our lives isanything but ordinary. It isin our every day living that

we practice loving ourneighbors, our selves, and

our God. How do you tendto your soul? How is your

    garden growing?

    For next week, read

    Romans 7:15-24

Come, my Way, my Truth, my Life:Such a Way, as gives us breath:

Such a Truth, as ends all strife:Such a Life, as killeth death.

Come, my Light,my Feast, my Strength:

Such a Light, as shows a feast:Such a Feast, as mends in length:

Such a Strength, as makes his guest.

Come, my Joy, my Love, my Heart:Such a Joy, as none can move:Such a Love, as none can part:

Such a Heart, as joys in love

    (Poem by George Herbert)

    Whoever welcomes you welcomes me,

    and whoever welcomes me welcomes

the one who sent me. Whoever welcomes

a prophet in the name of a prophet will

receive a prophets reward; and whoever

welcomes a righteous person in the

name of a righteous person will receive

the reward of the righteous; and whoever

gives even a cup of cold water to one

of these little ones in the name of a

disciple truly I tell you, none of these

    will lose their reward.
