    11:00 AM

    WITH JANET

    MCKENZIE

    Janet McKenzie has committed her

life and art to celebrating womens

lives and gifts. Her art compassionately

reflects that we are created equally

and beautifully in Gods likeness Ms.McKenzies painting Jesus of the

People was selected winner of the

    National Catholic Reporters Jesus

    2000 competition. This painting

    confronts stereotypical thinking by

    celebrating Jesus as African American.

The feminine aspect is served by the

fact that the model for this painting

was a woman. Ms. McKenzie will

be a guest at Sacred Journey at 9:00

AM and then share works from her

new book, Holiness and the Feminine

    Spirit at 11:00 AM.

    Come, Christ Jesus,

And meet us here with your grace.

    Come, Mother and Father God,

And instill in us your love.

    Come, Holy Spirit,

And build communion among us, that we may reflect your beauty.

    MORNING PRAYER

God of Togetherness, You build among and within us a community

that is stronger than any one of us can be alone. You encourage us

to reach out and serve one another instead of remaining isolated.

You teach us that the messy-ness of community and the risks that we

take to receive care from one another are fully worth it. Because it

is only in being together that we can ever get a fuller glimpse of who

you are, and for that we give you great thanks. Amen.

    Fellow Israelites, listen to these

words! Jesus the Nazarene was a man

whose credentials God proved to you

    through miracles, wonders, and signs,

which God performed through himamong you. You yourselves know this.

    In accordance with Gods established

    plan and foreknowledge, he was

betrayed. You, with the help of wicked

men, had Jesus killed by nailing him to

a cross. God raised him up! God freed

him from deaths dreadful grip, since it

was impossible for death to hang on to

    him. David says about him,

I foresaw that the Lord was alwayswith me; because God is at my right

hand I wont be shaken. Therefore,

my heart was glad and my tongue

    rejoiced. Moreover, my body will

    live in hope,

    From the C.E.B. Translation

We are now in the Seasonafter Pentecost, what we

often refer to as OrdinaryTime and so we enterinto our theme: Tending

the Garden of Your Soul, recognizing that most of

our tending needs to beduring those ordinary

times. We live most of ourlives in ordinary time,

    dont we? And yet the

miracle of our lives isanything but ordinary. It is

in our every day living that

we practice loving ourneighbors, our selves, and

    our God. How do you

tend to your soul? How isyour garden growing?

    For next week, read
