Important Dates – PSLE Matters
PSLE T-SCORE
PSLE - A Placement Exam
• Need to reflect the relative achievement level of pupils within their peers.
• Places pupils into different courses according to their academic ability
• Enables posting to secondary schools by merit and as far as possible into a school of their choice.
A need for standardisation of the raw scores in PSLE
Transformed Score or T-Score
Calculation of PSLE T-Score
T-score = 50 +10(x – m)/SD
Where x is the pupil’s mark;
m is the average mark (mean) scored by all
the pupils who sat for the subject;
SD is the spread of marks around the
average mark (standard deviation)
Example :
• Pupil’s mark (X) in exam = 50• Average mark (Y) scored by all pupils = 68• Spread of marks (SD) around the average mark (Y) = 14
T = 50 + 10 (50 – 68) 14
= 37.14
Calculation of PSLE T-Score
• EL , MT, Maths & Science
- Each carries the same weighting in the computation of the Aggregate Score
- The mark of each subject is converted to a T-score
- The T-scores of the 4 subjects are then summed to give the Aggregrate Score
Example :
Subject Total Mark T-Score
English 200 105 34
Mother-tongue
200 152 51
Maths 100 67 53
Science 100 58 47
