Thank You 2010 Volunteer Mentors ~ Volunteers matched with children ages 6-18 share an hour or

Friends of Kinship ~ Thanks to these friends who helped with office tasks, fund-
raisers, group acvies, and in other special ways:
A t Kinship we are profoundly grate-
ful to the people, organizations
and businesses of this area for your ev-
er growing support of the Kinship pro-
gram. Your gifts, grants and collabora-

of matched mentor pairs from 35 to 45 by year’s end
• Reading Buddies expanded to Nevis Elementary School
• Kinship youth developed confidence and new skills on
retreat at Deep Portage and weekly with their mentors.
• Anew web-site and promotional DVD were developed.
• Kinship family surveys indicated mentoring benefits their
child and entire family
Kinship is pleased to collaborate with these organizations in
order to better serve the children and youth of our area;
• St Joseph’s Area Health Services
• Park Rapids Area Schools
• Nevis Public School
• Park Rapids area churches
• The Enterprise, Northwoods Press and KK Radio Network
• Area businesses that donated tickets or discounts
Our gratitude is profound. And our dreams for the future in-
clude connecting more adults with kids and putting hope in
their hearts. We invite you to continue investing your time,
trust and treasures in children through Kinship in 2011 and be-
yond. The need is real ~ and is matched by our commitment to
positive results!
Jennifer Therkilsen, Executive Director
Celebrang Results When Jackie comes to our house it always begins with her
reading a book out loud to us and she has definitely become a
beer reader. Liz
I am proud that Ana was on the junior varsity swim team last
fall. She did not miss a prac#ce or a meet. She was recognized
and given an award by the senior girls at the banquet. Barb
Shania is a member of the Cultural Commiee in her 8th
grade
class. They plan food, music, and reenact video broadcasts of
news from specific coun#es (such as the Chinese New Year)
several #mes a year. She also played on a so.ball team that
won the end of the year championship last year. Jill
Karina knit a hat for her baby niece on her own. Bonnie
Micheal beat me fair and square at a game of air hockey at the
bowling alley. He also trained his dog Scrappy at obedience
school. Joel
Derek graduated from Nevis High School, is taking computer
classes and working a couple of jobs. Dennis
Monica won 1st place in an art show. Raeann
Mikaela was named Sudent of the Semester for Nevis sopho-
mores . Renee
Luke had all passing marks and improved in every school sub-
ject the first semester and is doing well this semester. It is fun
to see him feel proud of what he is doing in school. I am very
proud of him. Greg.
Farrah performed in Just-For-Kix and earned a blue ribbon in
4H dog obedience training. Sherry
Nate is not only doing very well in school, but he has become
a very accomplished biker and is now learning to cross country
ski. On Sunday, only his fourth #me on XC skis, he did all the
trails at Soaring Eagle. Phil
I was very touched back in December when Victoria asked
Curt & me if we would like to aend her holiday choir pro-
gram. She looked absolutely beau#ful in her red dress and we
were very proud of her as we watched her perform. Sue
Abby really excelled at trying new things that she was very
hesitant to do such as when we went to Evergreen Park and
she went on the bumper boats, climbed the rock wall, and
drove the bumper cars. A.er lots of encouragement, she did
each of them once and then didn't want to stop! Sheila
Kasarra is a very caring young lady who is always willing to try
to help someone. Her smile is inspiring! Candy
Besides aending all her Just For Kix prac#ces, Viviana danced
beau#fully in their Winter show! She has also become a good
skier at Soaring Eagle. Edie
RJ had two strikes, bea#ng Del and me twice bowling! Peg
Brennen beat me in minigolf and conquered his fear of heights
when we walked to top of Itasca firetower, David
Eddie passed his wrien driver's test with only one wrong an-
swer.....look out on the roads for Eddie!!! Kevin

Editor’s note: At Kinship we hear a lot about the posive
impact of mentoring - on both the Kinship kids and their
mentors. Read below to see how mentors responded
when I asked them to share some of the accomplishments
of their Kinship kids. I hope you can hear their pride!
