Two Problems Encountered

• Lack Chinese national standard complied quick tools for pressure vessel stress analysis based on ANSYS.

• Need to solve large structural, crash and CFD problem for special equipment safety in shorter time

Why not ANSYS Pressure Equipment Module

• ANSYS Pressure Equipment Module is a good tools. But– Shell element only, not convenient for stress

linearization. – Encapsulated ASME, CODAP2005, EN13445-Tresca

and EN12445-Mises, but no Chinese Standard, e.g. JB-4732

– Does not support 64-bit Windows

Steps to Use PVRAS

• Step # 1, Pre-Process in PVRAS– Create a project in PVRAS– Choose pressure vessel parts types– Define geometry, material, load and boundary conditions

• Step # 2, Solve in ANSYS– Run generated APDL in ANSYS to create 3D solid geometry,

defined material properties, apply load and boundary conditions, mesh 3D hex elements, solve, pick-up calculated parameters and contour pictures. Create a standard analysis report

• Step # 3, Edit the report in PVRAS– Insert contour pictures– Insert linearized stress path– …

• Workstations– 7 HP Workstation xw4400 for Pre-processing, 8GB memory, Intel

Core2 processor, Windows XP x64• SMP Server

– 1 DELL PE 6950 Server for ANSYS Distributed Solving, 32GB memory, 4 dual-core AMD Opteron, 5X300GB SAS 15K hard disk, Windows Server 2003 x64. Can solve 50M DOF problem.

• Cluster Server– 8 DELL PE 1950 Server as compute nodes for ANSYS LS-DYNA,

CFX & FLUENT parallel computing, 2 dual-core Intel Xeon 5160 processor each node (total 32 cores), Windows CCS 2003 & Linux

– 1 Supermicro SC743T-650 as head node for cluster management and storage.

• Network– Public and Private, Gigabyte Ethernet– MPI, Infiniband

Summary

• PVRAS developed by CSEI-PERA Research Center for Simulation improved the efficiency of the Chinese standard complied pressure vessel safety analysis.

• CAE HPC system built by the center provided the capability to solve large model in shorter time.
