HDMI™ (High-Definition Multimedia Interface) forHDTV ConnectivityAs the most advanced interface for transporting both uncompressed high-definition (HD) video and uncompressed multichannel audio in all HDformats, including 720p, 1080i and 1080p, HDMI has become the mostdesirable connectivity option for home entertainment. Onkyo’s HDMI-enabled A/V receivers receive HD-quality signals from components like DVRs,DVD players, set-top boxes and gaming consoles, and provide single-cableoutput to a display device with an HDMI or DVI connection.

HDMI and Component Video Upconversion withTBC (Time Base Corrector)Upconversion simplifies everything by taking connectedcomponents through a single output to any compatibledisplay (including an HDTV). Each video signal incorporates a synchronization pulse (sync) that needs to be highly precise in amplitude and timing to eliminate clock jitter, which can degrade the picture substantially, particularly on HDTVs.By incorporating a time-base corrector (TBC) in the conversion process, inconsistencies in the signal’s timing can be corrected,thereby ensuring the highest-quality picture possible.

Wide Range Amplifier Technology (WRAT)—Amplification Power Through DesignUncommonly Low Negative-Feedback Design—Get cleaner sounds on program peaksNegative feedback (NFB) is the mostcost-effective way to reduce noise atlower frequencies, but it will severelyinhibit an amplifier’s ability to respondto large signal gains (e.g. explosions andmusical crescendos) and to producesound at high frequencies.We use a lownegative feedback design withaudiophile-grade, close-tolerancecomponents at critical points in thesignal path to achieve a frequencyresponse out to 100 kHz for high-definition and regular DVD formats,high-resolution DVD-Audio and Super Audio CD, regular CDs, digital musicfiles and the latest gaming content.

Closed Ground-Loop Circuits—Enjoy distortion-free audio at any volumeIf an amplifier’s ground potential(voltage) fluctuates during playback, youcan expect noise. In an open-loopcircuit design, where all circuits areconnected to the power supply via oneloop (like on many amplifiers), the noisemultiplies exponentially. Onkyo’ssophisticated closed-circuit designenables each circuit to go and returndirectly to the power supply, whichcancels any individual circuit noise andkeeps the ground potential free ofdistortion.

High Instantaneous-Current Capability—Experience homeentertainment with greater impactAfter an amplifier outputs an audio signal, the speakersaccumulate energy, reflex and send energy back to theamplifier.The amplifier must immediately cancel thespeakers’ reflex energy and instantaneously send outthe next signal. A high current is necessary to handlespeaker impedance fluctuations, which can force anamplifier to provide four to six times its usual currentload.The instantaneous current capability of evenOnkyo’s least expensive WRAT receivers exceeds thatof most conventional units, which commonly have lessthan half the current capability.
