Ocean Grove Cup Carnival. Following on from a successful 1999 event the ocean Grove Cup Carnival is continuing to grow in popularity and stakes a claim as the major tourism drawcard for this region.
A unique event that showcases Victoria's magnificent Bellarine Peninsula and brings together service clubs, charities, sporting clubs, local business and all sorts of individuals in the planning, management and hosting of this wonderful carnival.
The Apex Club of Ocean Grove as the organisers of the carnival and the Barwon Coast Committee of Management in their aim to balance the expectations of the community in terms of recreational needs and environment protection are to be congratulated on the way this event has been conducted.
This year you will see even greater emphasis on family entertainment. A special stage "kids corner" has been set up to entertain "children" of all ages, also watch for e free pony rides.

FROM HUMBLE BEGINNINGS ... With the Victorian Spring Racing Carnival about to come to a spectacular, if belated, close with the running of the 2000 Schweppes Ocean Grove Cup, few people remember the humble origins of this classic racing event.
"Well myself and an ex girlfriend used to have a couple of horses and we used to joke about whose horse was the fastest of the two".
"One day we decided to have a bit of a gallop along the beach at Collindina. There was about 20 people there, and the two horses of course, and everybody got dressed up a la Melbourne Cup ".
"The first race was won by Reigate Lass, which was a bit of a surprise really because my horse was the rank outsider in the two horse field" .
The first Ocean Grove Cup (it was actually called the Collindina Cup at the time) took place in 1985, and Denis Walters was the winning rider, owner, trainer, event organiser and chief steward.
Star Wilkes with Christine Young on board ran a disappointing second.
The first cup was held at Collindina, however from 1986 to 1990 it was held at Black Rock and in 1991 we held the final one in Collindina.
The race was held over "about" 1000 metres, however we got a bit sophisticated toward the end and got a surveyor to measure it out. And the original Cup was reputedly engraved by the same chap who engraved the Melbourne Cup.
Over the years the event built up, however in 1991 Denis Walters got a trainer license and was not allowed to be involved in the Cup, so it went into recess.
About a year later Walters Ocean Grove neighbour 'Richard Grimmitt' asked him if he had any ideas for an Apex fundraiser.
Denis Walters suggested Apex ressurrect the Collindina Cup and away it went.
The first one was still called the Collindina Cup and was raced between Barwon Heads and Ocean Grove in 1995.
Since then the Cup Carnival has put Ocean Grove on the map-attracting huge crowds, gaining national and international media coverage and providing a windfall for local charities.
And what of the original winner 'Reigate Lass'?
"She was the first horse I ever owned, and I've still got her, she's an old mare now, about 22 years, but she 's still got a bit of spirit left in her".
