2.3: Safet Precaution for Arc Weldin

    1. Make sure that our arc weldin e ui ment is installed ro erl and

grounded and is in good working condition.2. Always wear protective clothing suitable for the welding to be done.

    3. Always wear proper eye protection when welding, spraying, cutting,

    or grinding.

    4. .

    5. Keep your work area clean and free of hazards. Make sure that no

flammable, volatile or ex losive materials are in or near the work

    area.

    6. Handle all compressed gas cylinders with extreme care. Keep caps

on w en no n use.

    7. Make sure that compressed gas cylinders are secured to the wall orto other structural supports.

    8. When gas cylinders are empty, close the valve and mark thecylinder empty.

    9. Do not weld in a confined space without special precautions.

    10. Do not weld on containers that have held combustibles withouttaking special precautions.

    11. Do not weld on sealed containers or compartments withoutrovidin vents and takin s ecial recautions.

    12. Use mechanical exhaust at the point of welding when welding lead, cadmium, chromium, manganese, brass, bronze, zinc, or galvanizedsteel and when weldin in a confined s ace.

    12. When working in wet area, wear rubber boots and stand on a dryinsulated platform.

    13. Do not use cables with frayed, cracked, or bare spots in the.

    14. When the electrode holder is not in use, hang it on the bracket

provided. never let it touch a compressed gas cylinder.15. en wor ng a ove groun ma e sure a e sca o , a er, or

    2.4: Safety Precaution for Oxyacetylene

    1. Make sure that all as a aratus shows UL or FM a roval isinstalled properly, and is in good working condition.

    2. Make sure that all connections are tight before lighting the torch.

    . .detect leaks.

    4. Always wear protective clothing suitable for welding or flame.

    5. Keep work area clean and free of hazardous materials. When flamecutting, sparks can travel 30 to 40 ft (10 to 15 m).

    6. , , .7. Handle all compressed gas cylinders with extreme care. Keep

cylinder caps on when not in use.

    Safety Precaution for Oxyacetylene Welding

    8. Make sure that all com ressed as c linders are secured to the wallor to other structural supports.

    9. Keep acetylene cylinders in the vertical position.

    . ventilation.

    11. Acetylene cylinders and oxygen cylinders should be kept apart.12. en compresse gas cy n ers or ue gas cy n ers are emp y,

close the valve and mark the cylinder empty.

    13. Use oxygen and acetylene or other fuel gases with the appropriate

.14. Avoid breathing the air in the fume plume directly above the flame.

    Safety Precaution for Oxyacetylene Welding

    15. Never use acet lene at a ressure in excess of 15 si 103.4 kPa .Higher pressure can cause an explosion.

    16. Never use oil, grease, or any material on any apparatus or threadedfittin s in the ox acet lene or ox fuel s stem. Oil and rease incontact with oxygen may cause spontaneous combustion.

    17. Do not weld or flame cut in a confined space without taking specialrecautions.

    18. When assembling apparatus, crack the gas cylinder valve beforeattaching regulators (cracking means opening the valve on ac linder sli htl , then closin . This blows out an accumulated

foreign material. Make sure that all threaded fittings are clean andtight.
