sufficiently informed about the goals and

requirements of TOK?

I am aware of the requirements, but in terms of philosophy, I have no idea. 5 Yes. 4

I am most definitely informed through presentations and talks, as well as the courses themselves, especially ToK. 5

CAS is very interesting, and the act of writing reflections reflects the goals of CAS. 5

Even though we are constantly reminded of the philosophy and requirements of the IB program, lessons incorporate elements of the IB program. 4

Our cas coordinater does a good job of helping us when we have questions or doubts on CAS, however I feel that sometimes my CAS supervisor is not entirely clear on how CAS works 5

4 4

5 5

5 5

5 5I was informed fully when I was deciding to take IB Diploma program. For some of the information, I received them during the school year in class. 5 Ms.Weber constantly informs us about CAS during IB Flex. 5

Striving to be a globally-minded learner and well-rounded student, correct? 5 5

5 4

5 5

5 5

5

Because I've created a movie based on CAS, I have been very informed and exposed to the goals and requirements of CAS, along with filling out the reflections about activities, I feel IB emphasises this very much. 4

5 5

5 5

5 4

5 5

There is a lot of communication between the Coordinator and students 5 5

3 4

5 5

Personally I went to chat with all the potential teachers I am going to have at the end of the 10th grade. As a result of that I feel confidence about the overall goal and requirements IB wants from us. 5

Yes. our CAS mentor is explained to us goals and requirements of CAS at the start of the program too. We understand what IB is looking for and why they want us to do this. 4

5 5

I don't think that all the information we need is given to us by the school or by the program, but a little online searching can easily fill in the gaps. 4

Sometimes, I find myself confused about the requirements for evidence needed on reflections. The CAS program can be overwhelming and it's hard to follow its demands at times. 4

5 4

We've gotten proper information about what is expected of us, and what needs to be done in order to reach a good score. 4

I have received proper information for the requirements of CAS, and what needs to be done to reach the goals. The only aspect that i feel less than perfectly informed about is the requirements of the CAS Project. 3

5 4

5 4

Having two older siblings that went through the IB, my past school being a full IB school, and having my teachers in 9th and 10th grade comment on preparation for IB has made me pretty knowledgable about the IB program as a whole. Periodic meetings with the IB coordinator here as well as well equipped IB teachers have slowly introduced what will be required of us in the next two years. 4 4

I understand TOK as a subject, as a course. but not so much the goals. 5

I have read through the EE goals and requirements in preparation for writing my EE. It has been fun (because it is on a topic on something I choose) and enriching. 5

TOK has been a very informative and definitive course. 4

The EE remains a bit unclear, but my supervisor has provided me with past EEs and these have helped my understanding of the EE's requirements. 5

The TOK presentation is a reflection of how much we have learned in the TOK class, we consider more perspectives when thinking about issues. Looking at different ways of knowing, areas of knowing etc. 5

My EE supervisor helps me explain the guidelines and give me valuable opinions in my EE approach. I feel that EE supervisors should be teachers that have experience working with students on EE previously, and not only just a teacher who is an expert in the subject. 5

TOK is an aspect of the diploma i questioned throughout my expereince in the diploma here however, in my second year in the course TOK opened up to me and i was able to apply this in my TOK presentation 5 5

4 4

5 53 5

3 5

At the start of the course the idea of TOK didn't really get to me. It was after the first year I start to see what TOK wants us to be and how everything is connected together. 2

I am not sure does my understanding of the EE fits the idea that IB wants. I feel EE is there to aid us in writing an essay that we never wrote before. On top of that improve our searching skills which I think it's important for colleges. 5

5 5

3

Although I know in general what IB examiners expect from IB students, I don't understand many details about the EE. I have a lot of minute questions that aren't explored in the handouts our teachers give us and are hard to find online. 5

4 5Even though ToK can sometimes be a rather confusing class, I feel that I am mostly informed about the requirements of the class. However, requirements for assignments can sometimes be unclear. 5

The EE is still very new, but I feel that I am properly informed about what I need to know at the moment. It helps to take one step at a time. 5

I feel like a ToK textbook should be provided to everyone. That way there will be a hard copy source that students could refer to when needed. 5

At this point in time (meaning, we've just started to pick 1-3 specific topics), I feel like we are being very well informed about the requirements of the EE. 5

Flex classes are there. and teachers are open for appointments. 5 I haven done this. But he is. 5

They respond to emails in a timely manner, and are flexible in their schedules. 5

I haven't gone to see the IB Coordinator much, but the times I have have been positive, and he has been readily available. 5

IB teachers will make time for me as best to help me in class, after classes. However I feel that sometimes IB teachers are too busy for appointments, often I find myself asking help from friends more. 4 5

5 5Yes, every teacher is very eager to answer every question I ask. They actually encourage me to ask questions! 5 Yes!! Mr.Chao is always helpful : ) 5

YES. They are my mentors and role models for life and the world. I'm so happy that they are such compassionate and patient resources. 5

Yes, Mr. Chao and I have had many meaningful conversations! 5

MOST DEFINITELY! 5 5

5 5

5 5

Definitely, it is great to have so many teachers constantly ready to help, and they also encourage you to ask questions. Some students are more shy in class, and so it is good to have opportunities to visit your teacher for help. 4 5

5 5

5 5

In our school we run on a two day schedule and classes are split between the Day A and Day B by numbers 1-4. Within this schedule we have all been given a "study-preiod" or "flex" time in period 2B. This works to our advantage because all IB teachers also have this period free, allowing us to access their guidance whenever we find it necessary. 5

He is always available for consultation and help. I have experienced this myself, Mr. Chao shows great dedication to us and puts us in front of everything it seems. 5

5 5

No matter the time of the day or the situation I have felt very supported by m teachers when I have asked for help 3 5

5 5

5 5

Yes. They are ALWAYS there to help us. It is always up to us to seek help if we need any. 5

Yes. Though personally I don't work with the IB coordinator that much but he is always there for help when we needed him. 5

develop the attributes of the IB

Learner Profile. Comment:55

24 just like the EAGLES

Teachers are very encouraging and motivating. Especially in Psych and Eng. 5

With CAS, TOK and EE. It really helps to develop the IB Learner Profile.

Definitely yes because the courses require critical thinking and inquiry amongst other things. 5 Especially through CAS and TOK.

Because of the rigorous workload, the IB program pushes me to work beyond my capacity and it allowed me to develop more efficient skills and become more willing to ask for help. I used to be a shy student who did not dare to ask teachers questions. 5

Our classes encourage us to think more in terms of the Learner profile, however I feel that we need more group work.

5

5

1

5

5

I'd like to inquire as to the purpose of the excessive use of acronyms. Case in point: IB, EE, CAS, TOK, IA, IOP, IOC, TPPP, IPP, PPP, RI ... and so it continues. 5 My teachers aid me with this endeavor daily as well as my peers.

5

5

5

5

5

5

4

I definitely feel as is it has helped me to develop the IB learner profile however, my diploma program is not over yet. Therefore i cannot say that my learner profile has been fully developed just yet, i feel like and know that IB still has more in mind for me.

4

45

4

The IB program surely developed me as a thinker and as a knower. I feel taking the diploma program helps me to become more well-rounded compare to other students. It is amazing at the second year to see how everything starts to connect together and everything starts to make sense. The challenging forced me to develop the skills of critical thinking through out the year. 4

I feel the IB diploma program develop me to become a better thinker, communicators, open-minded learner, know my balance and at the same time be reflective on what I learnt in class. However I am not so sure about caring and risk-tacker aspects of the IB learner profile.

5

4

5

Yes, the IB program challenges me and makes me think and consider things further. 4

For the most part, the IB program encourages me to develop characteristics of IB students.

5

5

Especially in my English and History class and in coming up with good studying strategies for my other classes. 5

global significance. Comment:

12. The IB program is appropriately

challenging. Comment:5 55 4

3 44 5

5With TOK and EE, I touched on topics back home, which has been enriching and fun! 5

IT IS CHALLENGING!!! There is alot of work!!! and in terms of skills too!

5

In courses such as Economics, and Biology, my teachers always like to start the classes with little snips of news that relate to the subject throughout the world, and I find these both fascinating and inspiring. 4

The program is challenging but some aspects of the program make things harder than they need to be such as lack of materials for self study, and vague syllabus points.

5

The IB human sciences and TOK in particular encourage me to look at issues with local, national, global. But not so the other subjects. 5

Keeping to deadlines has helped with my time management, and the workload has encouraged me to work harder and aim for a higher goal.

4 5

5 5

1 5 Just a LOT of work!

5 5

5 5

5A glance at my CAS profile could verify this statement. 5

This grueling course is indeed challenging and has encouraged me to work harder (which surprisingly improved my grades).

4I feel this also varies depending on the teacher and the subject being discussed. 5

5 5

5 5

3 4

5 especially in TOK! 5

5 5

5

It seems like in almost every class these issues are brought up. However, I have not been able to experience this in mathematics just yet. 5 In my opinion i feel as if at times it is too challenging.

4 This will depend on the courses you take. 4

5 5 At times too challenging5 3

5 4

3

I am not so sure about this question. Maybe I learn issues that have local, national or even global significance but i don't think I think about this through out my learning. 5 Appropriately challenging?? It is VERY challenging.

5 5

5 4I find IB coursework to be more and more overwhelming, but it also sets a challenge for me.

5 5The IB program is exceedingly challenging for me. I am losing sleep that is vital to my health.

5 Yes, for example through CAS and other activities. 4Yes, the IB program challenges me and I feel that I will learn a lot from this experience.

5ToK gives me the opportunity to learn about issues world-wide. 5

5 5

5

In each of my six core classes my teachers try to make me an independent thinker, which is one of the reasons why i wanted to do the IB. TOK class in particular as well as the activities here at SAS that are available for CAS definitely enable me to learn more about issues bigger than myself. 4

Sometimes I feel that it is more challenging than I can handle, but it is supposed to be a challenging course.

13. I am happy with my decision to be a

at SAS Pudong?54

5 Interacting Teachers

4I guess it depends on the person. But I would. It is pretty holistic.

The teachers. They really help motivate me and they are very helpful. The coordinators are knowledagble too!

4

I've had a good time in IB, but still have some insecurities on how much some people would enjoy IB. It doesn't seem to be for everyone.

There are lots of opportunities in Shanghai and a good campus environment that provides a mindful location to work in.

5

THE IB program teaches you how to be a well rounded student, not just someone who is academically strong. You learn how to be global minded, aware of your environment, and see the world in a more open view Strong teacher support

4There is a lot of support from experienced teachers

5

- increadibly commited teachers- motivated students who do their best

1Especially not if you are applying to America for colleges. BIG MISTAKE!

All the teachers are experienced and therefore knowledgeable in all aspects of the IB diploma.

5

- really close student body- really committed and great teachers- very organized

5I really love IB Diploma program!!! I want to encourage everyone to take!!!

Having so many motivated teachers who are eager to teach us about everything! Great resources too!!! And great classmates XD

5

Though it is a tough program, I believe it will ultimately help in college and it has trained me to be a better thinker, learner, and student.

I love our class in that we have a huge number of students within the IB Program, certificate and diploma. We thus form a large support group that is there for each other through all our struggles with IB tests and IA's.

5

I think the biggest strength is that teachers emphasize inquiry in learning and encourage us, as students, to think for ourselves and question the knowledge we are exposed to rather than just memorize the information we are given. Teachers are very accessible, and do everything they can to facilitate learning (not just grades and performance, but actually learning and understanding the material) which is another great strength of the IB program.

3

I am personally quite happy of my decision to be a full IB diploma candidate, but don't believe that it is for everyone. I would only recommend it to people that I feel would fit well with the program

The teachers (for the most part) inform students of what they should expect throughout the course. There are usually few surprises.

3

5

Strengths:-quality of teachers-enthusiasm of teachers and students-a lot of encouraging teachers -variety of CAS opportunities

5

The strengths lie in the teachers who remind the students to constantly make connections between school and the real world, and connections between each subject. In addition, teachers remind students to make connections within each subject. All this emphasis on connections, I believe, helps me as a student to understand the material I am learning, and also be able to apply my learning to other areas of my life.

5

Although the IB is not an easy academic choice, and its difficult and demanding at times, it is definitely worth it in the end.

5

Although the IB diploma is torture at times and I just feel like giving up, at the end of the day i know that it is preparing me for my future a lot better than the alternative of just taking general classes and memorizing text books.

Definitely the community and bond that is built between the IB candidates, we are almost a family. I came into SAS as a new student the same year i started my IB diploma and i strongly believe that if i was not in the IB i would not have been able to become friends with such great people and become the student i am today who is able to use critical thinking and reasoning to my advantage.

5

teachers are all very knowledgeable, and the students who decide to engage in IB diploma or certificate program are all really motivated.

5

IB is recognized all over the world and well seen when applying to college. As international citizens, I would almost say that IB should no only be recommended but expected to do.

Variety of different activities for CAS. Good ToK teachers and format of teaching the course.

4

1

The IB coordinator does a good job in making sure no one is falling behind and the teachers make the classes and work appropriately challenging

5

Yes. Even though the program is very challenging I still find the result rewarding. Not really the grades or GPA aspect. But as a person how much I grow through out the 2 years of IB really makes me happy with my decision to be a full diploma candidates. And I've already recommend people to consider the program since last year.

I feel the teachers are well-trained in SAS Pudong. They are always there for help. No matter how tricky or weird the questions we ask, they are always able to answer us. The most amazing thing is that they are able to answer stuff outside their course too. For example I can goto my theatre and economics teacher to ask about how the courses are connected to TOK for my TOK essay.

4

I am happy with my decision to be a full IB Diploma candidates, but full IB is not for everyone. I would recommend it to a friend in the 10th grade only if that specific friend can handle the amount of work and effort for the full IB.

There are much more selection of classes. The teacher to student ration is smaller, which increase the availability of the teachers. Students can go to a teacher at any time for help.

5

Our IB diploma class is a perfect size, big enough for me to work with different peers, but small enough for me to be able to get to know everyone and get to know each person. The teachers also know each student by name, which is great in a rigorous program such as the IB.

4

Well-rounded, covers most aspects and trains students to develop ideas for themselves, and not just studying and memorizing.

5I feel that the IB will be a great challenge, but it will be worth it because of everything that I will learn from it.

The teachers are good and always ready to help, and I feel that I get proper and helpful information about the IB program.

5

It is undoubtedly a very good experience and I am already recommending the Full IB Diploma program to 10th graders. Furthermore, I feel like the program is preparing me very well for college.

The strengths of the IB Program at SAS is that there are a wide variety of resources available for students to do research and inquires. As well as numerous learning opportunities are given to students.

5

All teachers are helpful and friendly, and care about their students. The school and its environment complement the IB program and really allows students to grow and meet their potential.

4

Only if they're really motivated, or really want to challenge themselves not just in a particular subject but in all aspects of their subjects and learning, as the IB diploma has requirements outside of the classroom as well. Good teachers.

15. In what areas should we be seeking to improve the IB Program at SAS Pudong? 16. Any other comments?

nopeMore understanding about the importance of 2 years of work, and how one subject (even though not related to major) can break everything one has worked for for other major- relating subjects. to be more trusting in predicting us grades.

Rewarding program, overall. The variety of courses? The timing of the IAs. Some courses leave it till the second year and pretty late, which can be very demanding when everything is due.

Provide more materials for students and seek to teach in new ways, such as flip-teaching for math.

a space for IB studentsPRE-IB! i would have love to take that.optional training the summer/year before for the people taking diploma

sas is as good as a school gets. very proud to be part of it!

To set one deadline for everyone and have people meet that. Since the IB diploma is supposed to encourage "independent learners", we should have the opportunity to be independent and not have to meet all the internal deadlines of the school.

- maybe more class selection to give students a larger choice

otherwise there is nothing else i can think of.

´The sas community is a very tightly knit one. This is great when it comes to the IB because it makes everyone very close. The IB program at SAS is very challenging, there is no part that is taken lightly. The examination systems leading up to it are very intense and prepare you well to deal with the stress of the exams at the end of the program.

More flexible grading. I feel like sometimes IB curve is necessary.

Perhaps more one day breaks rather than three week long breaks would help with mental and physical health!

IB is indeed a good experience and I'm very fortunate that most of my friends are in this program as well.

I think connections between TOK and other subjects should be more strongly emphasized. Otherwise, I think SAS's IB Program is fantastic! I LOVE IB! :)

Finding a way to better convert IB scores to SAS grades, so as to accurately reflect the level of achievement from students. (Or at least to be consistent across departments)

I am glad to be an IB student. Sometimes, though, I wish that the rest of the world saw the merit of an IB diploma (to a higher degree than they already do). I am glad that IB students of the future will have more opportunities due to the growing reputation of the program (:

-More science options -IB film-A lot of IB schools do something called "CAS" week, and combine it with group 4, where it allows students to travel around and investigate the world, along with involving aspects of science, additionally it gives time for the I.B students to bond and connect better.

An aspect that should be considered is the availability of courses, regarding SAS Puxi and their choices compared to ours.

In all honesty, the IB program has made me a better student.

I've noticed that there are some courses that are not offered at SAS, which might be interesting to the students. Also, the language, especially ab initio, shouldn't be mixed with language 1 classes in the first year, as the change between Y1 and Y2 is drastically different, and makes Y2 more challenging.

Personally i don't feel as if there is much to improve in the IB program in SAS, i have always felt as if the IB program at SAS has been really well organized and that is one of the reason I transferred to SAS to get my diploma. However, i do feel as if SAS should consider making more IB subjects an option, and make exceptions to high school credits when in IB. In my case i was forced into visual arts at a HL because I came from a british system and did not have any fine arts credits. Also I completed my IGCSE's in ICT and always loved ICT as a subject of study, however there were no similar courses offered in SAS for IB.

broadening the course selection. I had really wanted to take IB sociology, and IB Film, our school mainly offers the basic courses, and it is quite limited. I really love the IB program in this school

Few choices to choose from Group 3 and 4 classes.

Possibly reform the drama program to make it less theoretically based and more practically based

Perhaps that the students know that HL sciences are actually VERY challenging and maybe don't over does on that. N/A

More class choices would definitely be a great improvement.

We should promote the characteristics of IB students more. For example, students should be encouraged to be more enquired.

The only thing that is a 'weakness' for the IB Diploma Program is that there are no physical education classes. Apart for the fact that there are after school sports and activities, I feel it would be much better if the IB Program incorporated physical education in it as well. Although a bias would be that I'm both an athlete and academic person. I understand that CAS includes action, but I still feel that the IB should give an option of taking an IB physical education class to students.

Nothing comes to mind. I have no regrets taking IB. (so far?)
