Joint Operation’s NewsM O N T H LY N E W S February 2018

What is the difference between the current system and the new

program? The current system is “documents management system” which keeps and manages the original drawings, saves data, and gives access to other departments. This system is somehow old considering the advanced modern IT solutions. As for the new program/software, it is called “SmartPlant” and it is being perceived as an integrated system for supporting all phases of Engineering, Design, Operations and Maintenance of Process Plants over their entire life cycle within KJO. It is intended to provide Data and Document management capabilities. The system will be used to control and view plant asset data as well as engineering and vendor related documents. The system will audit and track changes that occur on documents and associated data. Why do you need this program? We need this program to upgrade

and cope with the latest technologies adopted by major companies; just like the plants of Saudi Aramco. This program will facilitate routine jobs and will overcome some gaps; like the long time consumed for searching data, and will help in analyzing data and fixing faults. It also allows sharing and exchanging data and documents across various disciplines and it deals with all types of files and documents; contrary to the old system which reads limited number of files, like Xls/pdf/doc/AutoCAD.

The new program will be a data warehouse that consolidates data and documents created by the design tools and will provide access to users belonging to various departments and disciplines of KJO. It ensures all plant and project personnel have access to the most accurate, current information available – when, where, and how it is needed. The team of the project comprised

employees from ESD and other concerned departments, together with the team of the executing contractor. The team ensured not transferring any data or drawings before comparing and updating them duly. In this regard, we would like to thank all departments which assisted in completing this difficult task. What is the name of the program? The name of the program is “SmartPlant”, which is an Intergraph Software. What is progress of the project? The first phase of the project is fully completed (%100), and the users of the departments will receive appropriate training for using the system. The second phase of the project started at the beginning of November 2017. We gave the contractor the “go ahead” 6 months in advance, when we were working in the first phase, and by that we got ahead of the schedule by %30. Which are the proponent departments?

The technical engineering departments, Offshore Production Department, Onshore Production Department, Executive Management, Industrial Security and Safety Department, Maintenance Support Department and Community and Business Services Department, as well as the contractors and other KJO departments. Who are the members of Project Team? Engineering Support Department (ESD) – Technical Support – Drawings Division. Superintendent of the Division, Eng. Saleh Al-Mashraf, Division Head and Project Manager, Eng. Sulaiman Al-Sadoon, and Team Leader, Emad Sendi

ESD Launches “SmartPlant” for Managing Engineering Drawings and Documents

The Engineering Support Department (ESD) launched a new software named “SmartPlant” for managing the engineering drawings and files of all facilities and buildings in Khafji Joint Operations (KJO).

In this regard, Dorra Reporter met Eng. Sulaiman Al-Sadoon to know more about this program.

The Training and Development Department (TDD) received the 19th intake of trainees, and will focus on organizing General English Language Courses for them. The intake comprises five students in the second level, two students in the third level, and six students in the sixth level. Moreover, TDD announced in February 11th that it will organize additional four English Language Courses in various fields; particularly, for ISD security men, OND water treatment staff, and FAD employees, together with the normal English Language Courses regarding writing emails and reports and English for meetings.

Safety consultant Carl Potter once was told about a workplace in which an employee asked for his name to be deliberately drawn from a hat so he could be the new member of the organization’s safety committee.Although he felt otherwise, the worker planned to feign disgust at the selection when his name was revealed during an assembly. Such irritation simply matched the workplace culture.“It wasn’t popular to be a member of the safety committee and like being on it,” said Potter, who is based in Tulsa, OK.Potter and counterpart Richard Hawk – a veteran safety pro turned professional speaker based in Bridgeton, NJ – believe it doesn’t have to be that way. Each spoke with Safety+Health about ways to build more effective and enjoyable workplace safety committees. Their thoughts, as well as guidance from the National Safety Council, helped shape the following seven tips.

1 Put progression before perfection at the start. When creating a safety committee, begin the process with immediate and long-term goals, but be careful about aiming too high initially.“What are you going to accomplish?” Potter said. “Is there a measurement that you’re going to have? What can you do to push safety forward just a little bit? Not monumental, not huge, but one thing that you can hang your hat on Dec. 31 and say, ‘This is what our committee accomplished in 2017.’”View these tips as an infographic

2 Embrace variety. Workplaces consist of employees with varied positions and backgrounds. Ensure your safety committee follows suit by including a mix of your organization’s labor force and management.“This is not an authority position,” Potter said. “This is a representation.”Committees should include current or previous safety champions as well. “Make sure you have people who are gung ho about it, because that’s really important when you get it going,” Hawk said.

3 Develop a basic curriculum. Be prepared to provide training and materials to boost committee members’ knowledge and recognition of workplace safety and health hazards, as well as ways to avoid and prevent them.

Potter noted that numerous safety education resources are available. NSC and other worker safety organizations offer extensive training in a variety of areas, while the OSHA Outreach Training Program includes -10hour and -30hour classes.

4 Plan meetings ahead of time. Develop meeting agendas a few days in advance and distribute them so committee members can prepare. Part of the agenda should include setting a time limit for the entire meeting as well as for each agenda item. Monitor how meetings adhere to these limits.

Hawk also favors having one person serve as the committee’s “conscience.” This person’s duties would include keeping the group focused and ensuring the committee is acting properly, following pre-determined ground rules and treating all members with respect.

5 Maintain a reasonable rotation among committee members. Ideally, the committee will be made up of volunteers rather than appointed or selected members. That dynamic increases the probability of consistent member investment and energy, Hawk and Potter said.Consider the size of your organization and the committee when deciding the best rotation schematic. Hawk stressed the importance of a quantity of perspectives and the tendency of groupthink to build on an individual’s idea.“That’s one thing that happens a lot – people get on a committee and then no one else can get on it,” Hawk said. “So make sure it rotates a lot.”For most larger companies, Potter suggests a rotation of three years on, two years off.

6 Don’t be boring. Hawk champions the credo “Make Safety Fun,” so he naturally offered several ideas on how to make this happen.“It gets to be so boring, like meetings can in general,” Hawk said. “So what can you do to vary it? Make it an agenda item. Talk about what we can do to make these meetings more fun and make them better.”Suggestions include opening meetings with personal reflections or exercises before the traditional reading of minutes; using occasional guest speakers; and scheduling some meetings at a nearby restaurant, museum or park.Professional decorum still applies, of course.Read reader comments on the poll question.

7 Occasionally look outward. “Try to get in touch with other industries and see what they’re doing outside of your field,” Hawk said. “For example, if you’re in construction, oil or gas [industries], reach a hospital and see what their safety committee is doing.“Just getting your brain thinking differently. That’s exactly what it is. They’re going to have a different mindset and approach than you will. Plus, it’s more interesting for the committee members when they do that kind of stuff. Plus, it’s not hard to do.”

Every company requires capital to run its business, and it is impossible to continue business without injection of money from time to time. There are different ways to collect money and keep the business running. Sometimes, companies borrow loan from banks and other financial institutions, or they can also take funds from investors in the form of share capital. Retained earnings are also utilized for this purpose. No matter what way they use for to collect money, it can be done either by funding or financing.Generally, funding and financing are interchangeably used in the financial world, but there is a difference between these two terms. Funding is actually the money provided by companies or by a government sector for a specific purpose, whereas, financing is a process of receiving capital or money

verybody’s a critic. Even back in second century Egypt.

While digging in Tebtunis in northern Egypt in the winter

of 1900–1899, British archaeologists stumbled upon portraits of affluent Greco-Egyptians placed over the faces of mummies. One grave contained an ink and chalk sketch, a bit

larger than a standard sheet of printer paper, of

a woman from around the years A.D. 140 to 160. The

sketch includes directions from an unidentified source to the artist to paint the “eyes softer.”That ancient critique is now the name of a temporary exhibit at Northwestern University’s Block Museum of Art in Evanston, Ill. “Paint the Eyes Softer: Mummy Portraits from Roman Egypt” features the sketch, along with six more intact or nearly intact Egyptian funeral portraits, one still attached to its mummy. All were discovered more than a century ago but recently examined using modern scientific tools. The relics from this time period don’t resemble your granddad’s King Tut. Egyptians applied a new approach to mummies during the Roman-dominated era from the first through third centuries A.D. These mummies featured portraits of the deceased held in place by the linens wrapping the dead. Such paintings served as a prelude to other panel paintings in the ancient world, including Christian icons.Excavators separated the portraits from the mummies, which were supposed to have been together for eternity, says Essi Rönkkö, Block’s curatorial associate for special projects. Five of the portraits, on loan along with other materials from the University of California, Berkeley, are highlighted in one of the exhibit’s showcases: two men, a boy and two women. These lifelike paintings of well-dressed people in Roman attire stare back at you through the mists of time. The soulful (soft?) eyes draw you in and make you wonder who these people were and what their lives were like. The exhibit uses a series of labels, some with photographs, to trace the discovery of the portraits and explain Egyptian funerary techniques. Two mummy masks from the mid-third century B.C. to the mid-second century A.D. are also on display. The masks present an idealized image of the deceased in repose, ready for the afterlife.Northwestern students and researchers last fall applied modern analytical tools from archaeology, medicine and molecular biology to the portraits. The studies reveal that two types of wood were used in the portraits. Most panels were made from sycamore fig — a material native to Africa, including Egypt. A thin panel on one portrait was made from limewood found only in Central Europe. Ingredients for pigments were also imported, from Spain and Greece. The sources point to complex and far-reaching trade patterns.A computerized analysis of brushstrokes and paints suggests the male portraits came from the same workshop. All three wore a purple shoulder sash created with a blend of indigo and a red pigment extracted from the madder plant (SN: 16/5/3, p. 17).

for business purpose, and it is usually provided by financial institutions, such as, banks or other lending agencies.FundingFunding is an amount of money provided by the organization or government on the basis of an agreement. It is usually free of charge. There may be certain contractual requirements in that agreement, but there are no requirements to pay back the capital. The most common facilitators that normally fulfill the funding needs of an organization are the donations made by governments, or philanthropists.FinancingFinancing, on the other hand, is an amount of capital or the sum of money provided to an organization with the expectation to repay, and organizations are liable to pay back the capital amount along with a certain percentage of interest. Therefore, the repayment also includes an interest component. It is usually provided by financial institutions like banks, or investors like venture capitalists, business angels, shareholders, etc.Sources of FundsAs already discussed, governments and organizations are the main sources of funds. Let’s discuss these sources of funds in detail.

Government – The government funding is provided to different firms or establishments on the basis of a certain program or department from which it comes, and is basically distributed to private companies, communities, the general public, or other individuals for a specific purpose. The funding programs are available at every level of government.Philanthropist – Funding received from philanthropists is mostly reserved to charitable organizations that are built for a specific cause. There are various sectors that provide funding for different reasons.Corporate Sector – A corporate sector offers funding to fulfill the monetary requirements of community organizations through their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programs, which is a self-regulated program, and is integrated into a business model by different companies.Public Donation – This donation is usually provided by large community organizations for different purposes, such as, building schools or awareness programs.Sources of FinanceUnlike funding, finance can be raised from a number of sources. For example, it can be raised from the community at large, venture capitalists, or banks. These sources are explained in detail below.

Banks – Lending institutions like banks give finance to individuals and organization for the ongoing running of business operations or other purposes. It is usually provided in the form of a loan, with the expectation to earn interest on that loan.Venture Capital – Venture capital is another source of finance that is usually given to startup businesses. Although, it contains an investment risk, but due to the probability of earning above average future profit, venture capitalists invest in these businesses.Subsidiaries of banks, wealthy investors, and a group of investment banks, small business investment agencies, and venture capital partnerships are some of the examples of venture capitalists. These institutions are usually rewarded in the form of royalties, profits, capital appreciation of the shares, or preferred stock.Share Capital – A community, where a business or a particular project is set up, may also finance it with the expectation to earn profit on its investment. This investment is known as the share capital, and it is raised by issuing shares to the general public.http://www.differencebetween.net/business/difference-between-funding-and-financing/#ixzz57dcAXvZ5

Q. Can I get enough vitamin D from sunlight, even if I live in a place with little sunlight during the winter?A. Most people can make enough vitamin D from sun exposure during the summer, but for many, synthesis can be inadequate in the winter. A 2016 study led by researchers at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention estimated that 14 to 18 percent of Americans have inadequate vitamin D, although what constitutes a healthy blood level is subject to debate.Synthesis of vitamin D, which is critical for bone health, requires exposure to ultraviolet-B rays from the sun. In the summer, when the sun is directly overhead, vitamin D synthesis can be very efficient. For someone with light skin in a temperate climate at midday, “10 minutes a day of exposure to 10 percent of your body’s surface area, such as your arms and face, will give you what you need,” said Dr. Bess Dawson-Hughes, director of the Bone Metabolism Lab at the USDA Nutrition Center at Tufts University. Closer to the Equator, even less time is required. That’s a rough estimate, though, and many factors can interfere with vitamin D synthesis. People with darker skin need two to three times the sun exposure to make the same amount of vitamin D, and synthesis also

declines with age, Dr. Dawson-Hughes said. Environmental factors like clouds, ozone and air pollution can likewise decrease vitamin D production, she said. While a little sun exposure can be good for vitamin D status, too much can increase the risk of skin cancer, cautioned Dr. Jean Y. Tang, associate professor of dermatology at Stanford University. “You’ve got to do it in a very safe way, where you get enough sun to make the vitamin D, but not so much sun that you cause erythema, or redness, and a sunburn,” she said.Since all science is incomplete it just flat out wrong, I choose to ignore bullying about sunscreen, flu shots, low fat diets, colonoscopies...While using sunscreen, a hat, and sun protective clothing can inhibit vitamin D synthesis, “for the typical healthy person, your sun-protective behaviors do not lower your vitamin D levels very much,” she said, because most people just aren’t vigilant enough to block all UVB exposure all the time.During the winter, it’s much harder to get enough UVB to make vitamin D, because people bundle up in cold weather and the sun stays lower in the sky. Several studies have concluded that inadequate UVB limits vitamin D synthesis for at least a few months during the winter above about 35 degrees latitude

— which runs through the southern borders of Tennessee and Nevada; Boston is at 42 degrees latitude.SEE SAMPLE PRIVACY POLICY OPT OUT OR CONTACT US ANYTIMEHowever, a person’s vitamin D supply doesn’t plummet immediately in the winter. “One thing to keep in mind is that our bodies can store vitamin D in the liver and fat tissues, so there are ample opportunities to make vitamin D in spring, summer and fall,” said Carol Haggans, a registered dietitian and spokeswoman for the National Institutes of Health Office of Dietary Supplements.Still, studies consistently show that vitamin D status drops during the winter, with levels peaking in September and at their lowest in March. So for some people at least part of the year, it may be important to rely on dietary sources of vitamin D or supplements. The Institute of Medicine recommends that healthy adults consume 600 IU of vitamin D per day, increasing to 800 IU for people above age 70, assuming minimal sun exposure. A three-ounce serving of salmon provides about 450 IU, and one cup of vitamin D-fortified cow’s milk has about 120 IU. Fortified plant-based milks, orange juice, yogurt, margarine, and breakfast cereals are also available.

Do I Get Enough Vitamin D in the Winter?

A photo of Dún Briste — a layered, chunky tower of rock rising off the western coast of Ireland —skyrocketed to the top of Reddit last week. But the post›s captivating title — «What millions of years look like in one photo» — isn›t exactly accurate, a geologist told Live Science. The sea stack is old, but «almost certainly doesn›t represent millions of years» of geological processes, Maria McNamara, a paleobiologist at the University College Cork, in Ireland, told Live Science in an email. «Rather, [it likely formed in] tens to hundreds of thousands of years,» she said. Its rapid formation (geologically speaking, at least) doesn›t make this structure any less marvelous. The view of the sea stack from Ireland›s County Mayo is stunning, which may explain why the picture has received about 57,300 up-votes on Reddit since its posting on Feb. 9. The layered, sedimentary rock formed during the Carboniferous, a -60million-year-long period lasting from about 359 million to 299 million years ago. That›s long before dinosaurs roamed the Earth. (In other words, the sea stack formed millions of years ago, but it formed very quickly.) [In Photos: The UK›s Geologic Wonders] It›s unclear whether Dún Briste has any fossils from the Carboniferous period. But if it does, they would likely be the remains of creatures that lived during that time period, including corals, brachiopods (clam-like creatures) and crinoids (sea animals that look like flowers), McNamara said. When it formed, Dún Briste was still connected to the mainland. Looking at the sea stack›s layers and edges, McNamara noticed that the structure shows evidence of onlapping strata, or layers. This indicates there was a rise in sea level long ago, she said.«As the land surface was flooded [as sea levels rose], sediments were laid down progressively inland,» McNamara said.In 1393, an arch leading to the -150foot-tall (45 meters) sea stack collapsed during a storm, according to Dunbriste.com. This may explain why it was named Dún Briste, which is Gaelic for «broken fort,» according to the website. In 2016, daredevil Iain Miller climbed the cliff, according to the Daily Express, a news outlet in the United Kingdom. That›s the first time a person had set foot on top of the sea stack since 1990, when a group of climbers summited the stack, the Daily Express reported. Before that, a team of scientists helicoptered to the top of Dún Briste in the 1980s. They reportedly found the remains of a medieval house and a broken quern stone, that is, a stone used for grinding corn, according to Castlebar.News, a news publication in west Ireland.

SentinelOne this week announced a partnership with Microsoft to bolster threat protection for mixed platform users, making computing safer for Linux machines in a multiplatform workplace.SentinelOne will integrate its Endpoint Protection Platform with Microsoft›s Windows Defender Advanced Threat Protection service to cover Mac and Linux device platforms.SentinelOne›s EPP technology will feed all threats and detections from Mac and Linux endpoints seamlessly into the Windows Defender ATP console, enabling security teams to see and remediate threats across Windows, Mac and Linux platforms.«SentinelOne›s partnership with Microsoft aims to challenge the roles that third-party vendors such as Symantec, McAfee and Kaspersky Lab have held for years in detecting and securing computing endpoints against viruses and other exploits,» said Charles King, principal analyst at Pund-IT.Those companies invested in sizable networks that monitor, discover and track viruses and similar dangers to maintain their industry postiions, he told LinuxInsider. They developed fixes that customers can use to defend themselves.«Businesses and consumers using Linux-based and Apple solutions should enjoy viable, valuable alternatives to traditional third-party security solutions,» King said.Beta AccessCustomers of both SentinelOne and the Windows Defender ATP solution are eligible for beta access to the program, said Raj Rajamani, SentinelOne vice president of product management. It is a proprietary software solution, he told LinuxInsider.Once they have entered the beta program, users receive a token. When they enter it, the ATP console will start populating immediately.«The cost is no different than it would be in using the standard SentinelOne product,» said Rajamani.Linux and Mac users cannot run the EPP software independently, he noted. The workstation must be connected to the network to be able to send information to Windows Defender ATP.Practical Workplace SolutionOrganizations rarely have homogeneous information technology. They often use computers, operating systems and servers from a variety of vendors. As a result, it is essential to apply a unified cross-platform protection and visibility solution for threats across all platforms and devices, according to SentinelOne.The integration with Windows Defender ATP will allow security teams to detect, prevent and respond to attacks on macOS and Linux OS devices natively, the company said.«We are laser-focused on providing the industry›s most advanced and open endpoint protection platform,» remarked SentinelOne CEO Tomer Weingarden. «This tight integration furthers our mission to secure every endpoint and protect every edge of the network, regardless of hardware or OS.»How It WorksSentinelOne›s Endpoint Protection Platform applies machine learning and artificial intelligence to protect devices from advanced threats proactively, and it detects and remediates endpoint issues fully automatically.SentinelOne›s Behavioral AI engine monitors each system›s process, providing protection from the widest array of attack vectors. It also yields endpoint visibility, according to SentinelOne.Within the Windows Defender ATP console, every device has its own rich machine timeline. The system stores event history for up to six months and can be searched and actioned instantaneously.Easy ConfigurationCustomers can integrate with Windows Defender ATP and implement the service with just a few clicks. No additional infrastructure is required. It provides customers with a single integrated view of their endpoint security across platforms, according to Moti Gindi, General Manager for Windows Cyber Defense at Microsoft.Once the integration is configured, new events from Linux and macOS devices will start surfacing into the Windows Defender ATP console.SentinelOne›s solution integrates with Windows Defender ATP to monitor Linux and Mac endpoints› activity, and it applies machine learning to detect attacks dynamically in real-time.

Airspace Experience Technologies, LLC (AirSpaceX) has given a preview of its vision for the future of air taxi services at this year›s North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) in Detroit. The company unveiled a sub-scale model of its vertical take off and landing (VTOL) aircraft, Mobi-One, an autonomous, tilt-wing electric aircraft designed to carry both passengers and cargo at speeds of up to 250 mph (400 km/h). A scale version of Mobi-OneMobi-One with wings tilted for takeoff or landingMobi-One in horizontal flight modeMobi-One is powered by four electric motorsAccording to AirSpaceX, US300$ billion dollars in fuel and productivity costs a year are wasted in traffic jams and other delays in the United States alone. Additionally, urban drivers spend 42 hours stuck in traffic each year, while pumping 38 billion pounds (17 billion kg) of carbon emissions into the atmosphere.Designed and built by AirSpaceX parent compant Detroit Aircraft Corporation (DAC) at Detroit City Airport, Mobi-One is targeted at the point-to-point commuter market as a clean, quiet alternative to road transport that relies on «lean automotive

design and mass production techniques» to be affordable to produce.Mobi-One uses four wing-mounted electric motors that the maker claims makes the aircraft quieter than a helicopter. It›s designed to carry two to four passengers or payloads of over 200 kg (440 lb) at a

cruising speed of 150 mph (241 km/h) over a range of 65 mi (104 km).

A scale version of Mobi-OneAlong with its pilot assisted/autonomous flight avionics, it also has broadband connectivity for high speed internet access, V2X collision avoidance, and safety messaging. Aside from passenger and cargo services, it can also be used for medical and casualty evacuation; tactical Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (ISR); and research flights. The Mobi-One was developed in cooperation with Camilo Pardo, who was the chief designer of the 2005 and 2006 Ford GT. Completion of the aircraft›s engineering packages are still the primary focus, but the hope is that a full-scale version of the craft will soon be available for US FAA certification.
