    1. What do you understand by Judgement and convenience sampling schemes? [5 Marks]2. Explain primary and secondary data and distinguish between them. [5 Marks]3. Write a short note on time series analysis. [5 Marks]4. When flipped 1000 times, a coin landed 515 times heads up. Does it support the

hypothesis that the coin is unbiased ? [5 Marks]

    5. Discuss the criteria for evaluating case study. [5 Marks]6. Discuss the various electronic sources of data. [5 Marks]7. Describe the steps involved in sampling design. [5 Marks]8. Why and when would you want to use ANOVA in marketing research? [5 Marks]

    SECTIONB

    9. Memory capacity of 9 students was tested before and after training. State at 5 per cent level osignificance whether the training was effective from the following scores:

    Student 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9

    Before 10 15 9 3 7 12 16 17 4

    After 12 17 8 5 6 11 18 20 3

Use paired t-test for your answer. [5 Marks]

    10. Two samples of 100 electric bulbs each has a means 1500 and 1550, standard deviationsare 50 and 60. Can it be concluded that two brands differ significantly in equality at

1% level of significance? [5 Marks]

    11. A research study was conducted to examine the clinical efficacy of a newantidepressant. Depressed patients were randomly assigned to one of three groups: a

placebo group, a group that received a low dose of the drug, and a group that received

a moderate dose of the drug. After four weeks of treatment, the patients completed

Analyze the cross-tabulation data above using chi-square test of independence and draw your

    conclusions. [10 Marks]

    12. Write short notes on the following: [10 Marks]a) The techniques of writing report;b) Characteristics of a good research report;c) Bibliography and its importance in context of research report;d) Rewriting and polishing of report.

    13. Suppose we are interested in a population of 20 industrial units of the same size, all ofwhich are experiencing excessive labour turnover problems. The past records show that

the mean of the distribution of annual turnover is 320 employees, with a standard

deviation of 75 employees. A sample of 5 of these industrial units is taken at random

which gives a mean of annual turnover as 300 employees. Is the sample mean consistent

with the population mean? Test at 5% level. [5 Marks]

    14. A researcher wants to find if there is a relationship between the heights of sons and fathers. Inother words, do tall fathers have tall sons? Their heights in inches are given below in an ordered

    arrangement.

    Father (X) 63 65 66 67 67 67 68

    Son(Y) 66 68 65 67 69 69 70

    a. For this data complete the regression line.b. Based upon the relationship between the heights, what would be the

estimated height of the son if the father height is 70. [10 Marks]

    15. Suppose N = 100, X = 5,000; Y = 10,000; X2 = 2, 60,000; Y2 = 10, 40,000and XY = 5, 16,000.

    (i) Find the predicted value of Y when X = 60.(ii) What is the predicated value of X when Y = 80?(iii) Calculate the coefficient of correlation between X and Y.(iv) What is the standard error of estimate in the regression of Y on X? [ 10 Marks]

    16. Define sampling and non-sampling error, also point out the difference between sampling and nonsampling error. [5 Marks]
