FUNDRAISER A SUCCESS!
Our Birthday Dinner, last Saturday, kicked off Catholic Schools Week in style – with a profit of a $1,400 plus!
We would like to sincerely thank all of the parishioners, who donated their time and cooking talent, for helping make our fundraiser successful. A special note of thanks goes to our school families who donated all the pop and water for the night, to Croghan Colonial Bank for donating all the napkins, and to Myers Tent Rental (Ron and Sue Myers) for donating the extra tables needed to display the bountiful buffet!
To our chair people – Sister Carolyn, Sister Joyce, Tammie Smith, Joan Cutcher, Jen Nardecchia, Laurie Weyer, Geralyn Cole-Smith, Miranda Bores, Deb Wilfong, Janelle White, Shelley Ringenberg, Lisa MacMurray (all teach or work at St. Joe’s), Jane Hedrick, Alysha and Pat Whitacre, Lou Anne Sitterly, Linda and Sara Hohler, Jackie Schafer, Jessica Wasserman, Pam DeVos, Leslie Opper, Sandy Lonz, Julie Landoll, Annette Schafer and Tina Elmlinger – without your help we would not have been able to pull off such a nice event. Thank you, also to Steve Reer for helping us set up for the fundraiser!
We have re-ceived many nice compliments about the Birthday Dinner from those who were able to partake in the feast. For those of you who were not able to join us – you are in luck – for we have decided to make this an annual fundraiser. See you next year!

Today we will offer the traditional St. Blaise Blessing of throats at the end of Mass.
This Wednesday at 7:00 pm we are looking forward to the presentation on the Holy Eucharist by Msgr. Charles Singler. This will be a great opportunity during this year of faith for everyone to deepen their faith in the sacred mys-teries. All are welcome, and especially those who are considering assisting in our liturgical ministry as Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion. This year we will be re-instituting interested persons.
What would be expected qualities of those who are to exercise a role in this ministry? The person of calm and serene disposition is closely associated with the altar in assisting the priest in his role to distribute the Body and Blood of Christ. It is important, first and foremost, that the Catholic be in good spiritual standing by participating faithfully in the sacraments, especial-ly Sunday Mass, and the sacrament of Penance. While acknowledging our own unworthiness, we gratefully accept Christ’s desire to draw us close to himself. Those who feel inspired to accept the call to this ministry should have firm belief in the mystery of Christ’s personal presence and manifesta-
tion to us in this sacrament, exhibit deep respect for the sacred elements of His Body and Blood, and nurture their personal devotion and ever deepening love for Christ through Eucharistic adoration and other spiritual opportunities.
We keep in mind that ministers should also carryout their public ministry functions with modesty in dress and manner so as not to draw attention away from Christ, and they strive to model holiness of sincere faith in their daily life. This ministry in particular, therefore, demands that the person is living a life in harmony with the Church’s moral teaching. Therefore persons living in irregular mar-riage or dubious living situations, would not be considered suitable to publicly carry out this minis-try. It is the responsibility of the Pastor to ensure that these conditions are met and that ministers are properly disposed, as he has the responsibility to recommend the list to the Bishop for approval. I highly encourage all of our ministers to participate in the Holy Thursday liturgy, wherein the Lord first instituted the gift of the Eucharist, and ministers will later be instituted at the parish on the feast of Corpus Christi in June. We will have a practical session of training sometime before then.
Annual Catholic Appeal 2013 (ACA): This weekend at all Masses we will be viewing a short video by Bishop Leonard Blair encouraging us to consider our financial pledge to this year’s ACA. He asks each of us to prayerfully consider our gift so that the Diocese continues its ministries in the 19 counties of Ohio that it serves. Next weekend will be the Commitment Weekend. You should have already received a letter regarding this vital appeal. Please bring your completed
pledge form with you to Mass next Sunday. Additional pledge envelopes will be available in the pews for our visitors.

St. Alphonsus Social Hall: The Ladies of St. Alphonsus have undertaken an initiative to make a great improvement to the Parish Social Hall. Their goal is to raise enough funds to put a new vinyl floor over the existing surface, and they are asking for your help. The new floor will give our social space a clean and cohesive aspect with respect to the kitchen and hallway, and be easier to maintain. The cost for floor prep, installation and sealing will be $7500.00. They invite your assistance with a donation toward this project. Simply put the offering in the envelope marked "Social Hall Floor" and drop it in the Sunday collection basket. Thanks!

Health Ministry—Healthy Habits for February: The childhood song-”I’ve got the joy, joy, joy down in my heart, down in my heart...seems wise for all of us adults as well. With joy, you can make life rich and exhilarating. Happy people have five important outlooks: 1) they believe that life has meaning, 2) they are kind, 3) they are true to themselves, 4)they have a sense of belonging-family, community and world, and 5)they are there for each other. This month reach out with thoughts and acts of kindness and let the joy stay down in our heart as you share it with others. “And my soul shall be joyful in the Lord; it shall rejoice in His salvation”. PS 35:9.
A spiritual walking program for Lent called —“Carry
the Cross to Calvary” is being offered by the Health Ministry Team. It is a self reported walking program beginning on Ash Wednesday and ending on Easter. If you would like to participate, please record your miles weekly on yellow sheets of paper, place them in the box provided in back of church. The miles will be tracked on a map. The goal is 6,049 miles! More
