Online Counselling for Adults

What we doWe provide high quality counselling to adults with a variety of mental health needs. We can work with people who are experiencing anxiety, depression, loss, relationship issues, difficulties with anger, recovery from traumatic events or are struggling to cope with the pressures of life.

Counselling offers a safe, non-judgemental space to explore any concerns that might be affecting you in your life. We will listen and support you in gaining a greater understanding of your feelings and thought processes. Counselling can help you see the difficulty in a more manageable way.

To improve access and offer more choice, Buckinghamshire Mind is launching an Online Counselling service.

First stepsOnline Counselling can be the first step someone takes in reaching out for support. If someone feels unsure about traditional counselling or uncomfortable with the idea of face-to-face therapy in the same room as a counsellor, they may find Online Counselling a more comfortable starting point for receiving counselling support.

How will this work? Our aim is to improve accessibility for adults with mental health challenges who struggle to attend

traditional, face-to-face, room-based counselling. Counselling will take place from your home or another safe and confidential space that you have access to, using your PC or other mobile devices. This service is online face-to-face using a safe link, not an instant messaging service.

This service offers benefits and challenges so may not be suitable for some people and this will be decided between the counsellor and client during the initial assessment.

You will be offered an online assessment to ascertain if this is an appropriate service. Following this, you will be offered up to 10 sessions that will take place at the same time on a weekly basis. Sessions last 50 minutes.

During busy times you may have to go onto a waiting list for the ongoing counselling to start.

Who we work with? This service is for adults over the age of 18 who are experiencing difficulties with their emotional

and mental health and face barriers to attending traditional room-based counselling e.g.

• Having working hours that make it hard to attend• Having difficulties accessing transport or are unable to leave their home• Carers or parents • Living with a disability or a long-term health condition• Living in a rural Buckinghamshire area• Life situations that make it difficult to leave your home

To access this service, you will need:

• A reliable and secure internet connection• A PC or mobile device with a camera, microphone and speaker• An email address• Basic knowledge on how to use a PC, mobile device, email and the internet• A confidential, safe and quiet space
