This morning after breakfast we will meet as a group and begin a city sightseeing tour with our local guide. Beijing is ametropolis in northern China and the country’s capital City. Formerly known as Peking, Beijing has been an importantcity throughout Chinese history. It is one of the four Great Ancient Capitals of China, offering China's most wonderfularray of attractions. We will explore many of central Beijing's sites, beginning with Tiananmen Square, which sits at theheart of Beijing. Tiananmen Square is one of the largest and grandest public plazas in the world at 440,000 sqm in size.From here we will enter the imposing walls of the Forbidden City, once the domain of the Ming Dynasty, for an exclusivetour through this vast complex of courtyards and lanes. Many of the public rooms have been transformed into gallerieswhich display artwork, while others remain frozen in time, untouched and closed to the public. Today, just a handful of sections are open to the public as thousands of kilometres havecrumbled over time and are unsafe for visitors to traverse. The Chinese government is constantly working to repair partsof the wall and preserve as much of its structural integrity as possible, but some sections — particularly those of theMing dynasty — are still in great condition considering their immense age. Here we will enjoy a full day tour of theimpressive Mutianyu section of the Great Wall with our guide. Early this evening we will be boardingthe mind-blowing bullet train to travel to Xi'an. Xi’an is one of the oldest cities in all of China, with over 3,000 years of recorded history. As one of the four Great AncientCapitals of China, it served as the capital city during several of the most significant dynasties in China’s history. Xi’an isnow home to a great number of precious and ancient relics, but is best known as the starting point of the famous SilkRoad and where the towering Terracotta Army can be found. Today we will begin our guided tour with a visit to theremarkable Terracotta Warriors considered the eighth Wonder of the World and discovered by accident in 1974. Thismagnificent army consists of over 7000 soldiers, archers, horses and chariots that has guarded Emperor Qin’s tombsince 210 BC. Each figure is unique and the painstaking repair and evacuation continues to this day. Next we will walkthrough the famous bustling marketplace of Muslim Street, a sensory explosion where delicious food and souvenirs areavailable for purchase – with plethora of gift ideas. Here we will also explore the Gao's Grand Courtyard, a traditionalChinese dwelling in the Muslim quarter that belonged to the founder of the successful Gao family, who produced manyofficials, officers and businessmen.

Xining is the capital of Qinghai province in westernChina and one of the major gateways to the Tibetan Plateau. Today we will be visiting Ta’er Temple, also known as Kumbum Monastery, with our local guide. Ta’er Temple is a Tibetan‘gompa’ founded in 1583. Following our tour here, the rest of the day will be free to spend at leisure. Take some time toexplore this beautiful city further or to relax at the hotel. This evening we will be boarding our overnight train, headingtowards the city of Lhasa, the capital of the Tibet Autonomous Region. Please note, the only cabin type on the train is 4berth. Travelling pairs will be grouped together. In each soft sleeper cabin has a lockable door to ensure a quietenvironment.

DAY 7Destination Lhasa

This morning we arrive into Lhasa and transfer to our hotel for check in. At an altitude of 3,490 metres, Lhasa is one ofthe highest cities in the world and has been the religious and administrative capital of Tibet since the mid-17th century.It contains many culturally significant Tibetan Buddhist sites such as the Potala Palace, Jokhang Temple andNorbulingka Palaces. After settling in we will meet with the rest of the group to partake on a lovely guided orientationwalk around the city. The highlight of our walking tour will be a stroll around the colourful Barkhor market, the bestplace to experience the local vibes of Lhasa.

splendor of the Potala Palace, the residence of the Dalai Lama until the 14th Dalai Lama fled to India during the 1959Chinese invasion. It is now a museum and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Sitting atop Red Mountain at an altitude of3,700m, the red-and-white Potala Palace’s rooms number around 1,000 and include the Dalai Lama’s living quarters, aswell as murals, chapels and tombs. Next we will visit the Sera Monastery, one of the "great three" Gelug universitymonasteries of Tibet. Finally we will see the Jokhang Temple, considered as the most sacred and important temple inTibet and another UNESCO World Heritage Site. Later this evening we will enjoy a scrumptious Momo dumpling mealtogether as a group, a traditional delicacy in Tibet.

DAY 9Destination Lhasa Yamdrok Lake Lhasa

Today’s highlight will be a visit to the intriguing and awe-inspiring Yamdrok Lake. One of Tibet’s three largest sacredlakes, it is over 72 km long and is surrounded by beautiful snow-capped mountains. The name of the lake means“turquoise” due to the way the shimmering surface glows a brilliant turquoise colour when the sun shines. Following ourvisit here we will return to Lhasa where you may take the afternoon to relax and perhaps participate in another one ofour Inspiring Sights.

Some tourists maybe not like the flavor of Tibetan style food andeven give Tibetan cuisine a bad reputation which misleads others on Tibet cuisine. This morning following breakfast we will be visiting the famous Panda Research Centre. The Centre is renowned for itsbreeding program and is home of the Giant Pandas and their gorgeous cousins, the Red Pandas. Founded in 1987, it’sstated goal is to “be a world-class research facility, conservation education center, and international educational tourismdestination.” In the afternoon we will be taking a bullet train to Chongqing where we will be boarding our deluxeYangtze River Cruise, our home for the next three nights. Today’s shore excursion is to the mesmerising Shennong Stream. The stream flows through three beautiful gorgesincluding the Mianzhu Gorge, Parrot Gorge and Long Guangdong Gorge. Each gorge is renowned for its stunningscenery. The Shennong Stream is also home to the Hanging Coffins, which are ancient coffins containing the remains ofdescendants of the Tujia people. It’s an eerie yet memorable experience.

DAY 14Destination Yangtze River Shanghai

Our shore excursion for this morning is to the Three Gorges Dam project. One of the biggest construction projectsundertaken by mankind, and the largest hydropower project in the world, the scale of the dam is awe-inspiring. We willvisit the site and then return to the ship to view the large ship locks. Later this afternoon we will be departing from ourcruise to head to the airport to catch our evening flight to Shanghai. Tonight we enjoy an Inspiring Stay. While the hotelis like any other high quality 4 star hotel, the location is everything! Enjoy being walking distance for the famous NanjingRoad and the iconic Bund.

Today we will take a walk with our guide through the Old City area on the way to Shanghai's most famous traditionalgarden - the Yu Garden. This gorgeous Chinese garden is located beside the City God Temple in the northeast of the OldCity of Shanghai. Yu Garden is believed to have been built in the Ming Dynasty, more than 400 years ago. The highlightsof the garden include its classical Chinese architecture, exquisite sculptures and carvings, and the busy Yuyuan bazaar.From here we will continue on to the Shanghai Museum before taking an evening walk along the Bund riverside. TheBund is Shanghai’s iconic waterfront and this famous site is lined by the colonial architecture of European design. 4. Active Tour: A very good level of fitness and mobility is required for you to enjoy all aspectsof the itinerary, as this is considered a fast-paced tour. While there is some free timescheduled either in the morning or afternoon, there are many full days of sightseeing withminimal rest and some early starts. You will be required to walk up and down stairs, get onand off the coach and participate in all scheduled sightseeing that may be conducted onuneven ground and terrain. Any physical ailments you may have must be disclosed at thetime of booking to determine your suitability. If you have any form of walking aids, other thana walking stick or hiking poles, then this tour is not suitable.

Paired Solo TravellersPaired Solo TravellersThis package allows you to avoid paying a single supplement by booking as a Paired SoloTraveller.

Regardless of whether an accompanying solo traveller is found, you are guaranteed to travelat no additional cost.

Solo travellers are matched only on the basis of gender and not on other factors such as age,nationality, religion or sexuality. We kindly ask that you disclose any requirements, medical orotherwise, that might disturb your matched traveller’s sleep (e.g. sleep apnoea or a CPAPmachine). Unfortunately, with this in mind and in the interest of other travellers, we requestthat you proceed with your own private room with the resulting single supplement.
