On the fifth Sunday wcommemorate the conversation
Jesus Christ with the SamaritaWoman. This event, occurring duing Jewish Pentecost, commemorates the revelation of an obviouwitness of the Divine glory of thresurrected Savior on the preseSunday, for after the conversatiowith the Lord the Samaritan womaand her community of Samaritanwere convinced that the one whconverses is truly the Savior of thworld, the Messiah (John 4: 41-42Parts of the specified conversatio
serving as the subject of the Gospreading, are commemorated in thtroparia of the Canon and thstichera of Matins of the presenSunday. That is why this Sunday also called the Sunday of the Smaritan Woman. The Holy Churc
presents the Samaritan woman as an example of the raiing up of sinful sinners from the depths, those who arlooking for salvation and are ready to respond to thvoice of God, who everywhere unceasingly calls out tthem about raising up spiritually. to understand by herself His elevateaching about the "water of salvation" acaused a flaming desire in her heart "to cept the living water pouring out froHim". "Having drank it", the Samariwoman "preached to all" about Chr"who came in the flesh, to save mankinWith all of this we also are inspired tLord Himself always goes out to mthose searching for divine truth and graand are capable of repentance, and merfully grants them gifts even to establtheir salvation, and through them the saltion of others also.
Besides this, announcing to usthe Sunday Gospel reading which posithe Savior's teaching about the worshipGod in spirit and truth (John 4:23-24)His conversation with the Samariwoman, the Holy Church teaches that should pray to God in order that our praywill be pleasing to Him and will be demptive for us.!
