WHAT IS TEACHING?

The process of engaging students in activities that will enable them to acquire knowledge , skill , worthwhile values and attitude.

PRINCIPLES OF TEACHING:Teaching is a complex, and multifaceted activity. The following are a set of principles that can make teaching both more effective and more efficient.

Principle of activity:The child learns through his own activities.The teacher needs to organize activities to fulfill the inborn

quality of a child to learn from his own activities.

Principle of linking with life:Connecting the old experiences to the new ones.Teacher should link past event or experiences to the new

concept.

Principle of selection:Selecting right content and discarding subject matter

not needed.

Principle of interest:The child’s interest and co operation is essential.Subject matter which is not interesting should be avoided.

Principle of division:The child cannot be given subject matter at once.The teacher needs to cut it into steps.

Principle of revision:Revision is essential to ascertain whether the lesson is

comprehended. It helps the teacher in knowing the child well.

Principle of motivation:Child needs to be motivated first.Teacher has to create a good atmosphere of learning.
