e. Three Sections of IDU
(i). BB card i.e. Base band cards. Two BB cards for 1+1
configuration, each of the BB cards has power supply
points coax for IDU-ODU link and alarm indicating LEDs.
It is located on right side of IDU.
(ii). Controller Unit : Located in the center of IDU. This card
houses F interface, V Bus point and LAN interfaces for
remote network management. It stores all system
configuration and copies of software banks present on
different modules in the system.
(iii). Access Card: located on the left side of the IDU. It houses
the tributary interfaces ( 75 Ohm or 120 Ohm), memory key,
system power switch, alarm interface and user ID ex
channels.
f. ND ODU: Normal density ODU is used.

4. Supporting frame for ODU
For ODU in 1+1 HSBy configuration, balanced coupler is being used.
No need of any waveguide.
5. Antenna
0.6m Diameter Antenna is used
6. IDU/ ODU Coaxial Cable
Braided coaxial cable is used for IDU/ ODU interconnection.
It allows a maximum length of 200m.
7. IDU Basic Function
• System interfacing to external world.
• Base band digital signal processing.
• IDU-ODU cable interface management.
• Supervision and configuration/ management of the equipment.
• Equipment power supply management.
8. ODU Basic Function• IDU – ODU cable interface management.
• Modulation of base band digital signal ( from IDU).
• Demodulation of the received RF signal ( to IDU).
• Supervision and configuration management of the ODU.
• Management of comm channel from/ to IDU controller.
9. Physical Interfaces Of SRAL XD9a. User Channel:
A 64 Kbps synchronous data channel ( v.11) for application
defined by the user. The user channel can be configured in
2 modes.
(i). Contra Directional: Clock associated with the input data
stream originated by BB unit and
delivered to external equipment.
(ii) Co-directional: Clock associated with the input data
stream originated by an external
equipment and delivered to BB unit.
9b. Alarm and remote control external line:
It has 2 functions
(i) Transparent carrying, through the Radio link of up to 4 alarm
and command lines delivered to the outside e.g.. Alarm of
open door, smoke alarm, switching commands etc.
(ii) Sending of 7 output alarms relevant to the equipment
status.
9c. Monitoring received RF power on the ODU
ODU has a monitoring point to measure received radio signal
field.
10. Supervision Interfaces
10a. F Interface
It allows SRAL XD LCT connection i.e. SRAL XD with PC.
10b. R Interface
It allows SRAL XD SRAL XD.
It is external to the equipment and is not accessible to the user.
10c. U- LAN Interface
It allows SRAL XD SRAL XD networking for supervision
purpose for, when NEs are placed at the same location. Only
cable connections is available among NEs.
10d. Q- LAN Interface
It allows SRAL XD SRAL XD networking for supervision
purpose, when the NEs are placed in the same location and
they are not terminals of the same Radio link (i.e. only cable
connection is available among the NEs ) and V-LAN interface
is not available (i.e. Q-LAN and V-LAN permit daisy chaining)
It is used to allow SRAL XD to TMN operation support.
10e. D Interface
D Interface used to connect two NEs which belong to disjoined
radio networks. It is internal to the equipment.
11. IDU-ODU Interconnection
11a. It is realised through 50 ohm coaxial braided cable
11b. The communication bit rate is 51.84 Mbps.
11c. IDU-ODU communication is through signaling channel.
11d. DC power of ODU is also supplied through this cable.
12. LED and Monitoring Points
12a. LEDs in BB cards(i) ODU Alarm: Red lights up when alarm is present on the ODU or ODU disconnected.
(ii) Cable Alarm: Red:- Lights up when current drain is higher than
expected. It may be due to short circuit on thecable or on the ODU.
Yellow:- Light up when current drain is lower than theexpected. It can be due to cable breaking down or being disconnected or absence of ODU.
(iii) CHA Alarm:
Green:- When BB Signal implements its own normal
path in both directions.
Yellow:- Lights up when the channel is used in software
forcing.
(iv) CHB Alarm:
Green:- When BB signal implements it own normal
path in both direction (Tx & Rx ) (1+1 System).
Yellow:- When channel is used in software forcing
mode.
(v) Alarm:
Red:- Card fail alarm. It also lights up when there are
no internal power supply.
12b. LEDs In Controller Card
(i) Alarm:
Red:- Card fail alarm. Also when there is no internal
power supply voltage.
(ii) Test Alarm:
Yellow:- When manual operation in progress.
Equipment is forced in to an unusual condition.
(iv) Critical/ Major Alarm:
Red:- It denotes presence of critical/ major alarm
inside IDU.
(v) Minor/ Warning Alarm:
Red:- It denotes the presence of a minor/ warning
alarm inside IDU.

– RF output power and RF input power at nominal values (See figure below)
Normal operating conditions
SRAL XDAlarm management
Level 1 Alarms– Critical: Alarm condition that involves the operation ability
and that requires for an immediate corrective action.– Major: Alarm condition that involves the operation ability
and that requires for an urgent corrective action.– Minor: Alarm condition that involves the operation ability
and that requires for the execution of a corrective action to prevent higher damages.
– Warning: Condition of potential alarm or of potential service prevention, detected before it can cause some effects on the system; it is necessary to execute an action for an additional diagnosis operation (if it is necessary) and the trouble has to be corrected to prevent that it can cause higher fails.
