TOO SICK FOR SCHOOL?

We all know the importance of attending school

regularly, but sometimes it’s a question of ‘Is my child

too sick for school?’ This can be a difficult decision

some days, so in an effort to assist you, we have

attached a check list from the Pharmacy Association. It

is a guide only, but worth checking, as it is rather

helpful.

Principals Report

Hello everyone,

I hope everyone had a wonderful long weekend and

enjoyed whatever you and your family got up to. It was a

beautiful weekend, with Monday being a stunning day,

weather wise for people who were off the mountain.

The end of term is drawing near and it is hectic at the

moment, with activities, testing and report writing. Your

teachers are very tired people, organising their normal

teaching and planning and testing and report writing on

top. Please don’t forget to book in for an interview with

your child’s teacher if you haven’t already, forms went

home last week or can be found at the office. First in first

served basis. However, if you find the date (26th June)

not suitable, please make an appointment with your

child’s teacher for another day. It is important to also

remember that on parent interview day, students do not

attend normal classes, but are welcome to come with

their parents to interview if parents are happy for them

to do so.

Today we wish Ava and Ashton well as they represent our

school and compete in the next round of division cross

country. Congratulations on making it to the next round,

considering up to 90 kids participate in any given age

group. Well done to you both!

Friday is planning day for our staff. This planning day is a

little different with most staff being out of the classrooms

for the day. Students will enjoy a movie in the middle

session but will not be having a disco in the afternoon.

Hopefully we might do this on a later date this term.

Next week we celebrate Grandparents and Special friend

day on Wednesday 20th, starting with a morning tea at

10.30am in the multipurpose room. This is always an

exciting day for our students as they love sharing a day,

activities and our school with these very special people in

their lives. This years’ activity, students with the help of

their special persons will be making a bag that will be used

as their library bag. A small contribution of $3 has been

requested to help cover costs of the activity. Looking

forward to seeing everyone.

Last week I raised the issue of a lack of funding to all OSHC

in the Kinglake area. This means that all schools have lost

$16,000 or more of funding for this vital service. For our

school it will mean that fees will have to go up to

compensate for the lack of funding and booking will be

needed for each session. Once again, if the community

don’t use or support the service we cannot sustain it.

Operating OSHC programs in schools is not seen as a vital

school service by the Department of Education and schools

are not supposed to use school funding (not designated for

OSHC) to run these services. School council will meet on

Monday 25th to discuss how the school will proceed with

this service, some options and new models. If you have any

suggestions, please speak with a school council member,

Simon Sutton (school president) or myself, so we can take

your views into consideration. On another note for OSHC,

parents are reminded that the new system for rebates

commences from July 1st, so please ensure that you have

registered for the new program. Please see Anita or Mandy

or Susie in the office for details.

Have a wonderful weekend,

Deb Keating

KINGLAKE NIPPERS Dear Parents, Kinglake “Nippers” is a program designed for preschool children. The aim of the program is to familiarise young children with the school environment and provide them with a range of activities, with a focus on stories, art, craft and lots of fun. As there are 2 kinder groups this year who attend on different days, we have decided to run our Nippers program on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons on a fortnightly basis, to cater for all students. The program will run on a 2 week rotation, with one session running on the Tuesday and the second session running on the Thursday. We hope that this arrangement will meet the needs of all children and ensure that they all have the opportunity to attend if they wish. All children are most welcome to attend! Please contact the school if you would like more information. KINGLAKE NIPPERS 2018 SESSIONS RUN FROM 2.30 – 3.30
